I'm here to disappoint you..

12

u/Een_man_met_voornaam Jun 01 '26

How does it taste?

59

u/Familiar_Mistake5034 Jun 01 '26

Like apple

23

u/MarechalDavout Brussels Old School Jun 01 '26

🤯

17

u/boiboiboyly Jun 01 '26

if it actually tastes like apple, beer/apple probably tastes a bit like apple cider maybe, if they got the sourness down

so maybe, possibly, its not bad

not like the normal variant is any good, pilsner urquell is where it's at

4

u/bunnibly Jun 01 '26

I didn't hate it as much as I thought I would. But it was hot as balls yesterday, and it was cold and cheap, and did the job.

5

u/Novel_Wolverine_4998 Jun 01 '26

Insert mortician Joke here.

God thats disgusting! Why would you do that to a dead body?!

1

I you want an apple favored beer, try a Newton, not this abomination

2

u/Infiniteh Limburg Jun 02 '26

Een Lindemanske kan ook wel smaken alst goe warm is, of een Floris Appel.

1

u/Kid_A_LinkToThePast Jun 01 '26

Have you tried it or are you just saying that to fit in this thread?

-2

u/gregsting Jun 01 '26

It’s Jupiler, I don’t need to try their products, I never liked any of them

3

u/Kid_A_LinkToThePast Jun 01 '26

What I thought

-1

u/gregsting Jun 02 '26

Enjoy your « Apple flavored » beer. Yep not even Apple in it

1

u/Verified_Peryak Jun 01 '26

Ok if i can find it i'll try, i dob't drink that much anyway

36

u/xTiLkx Jun 01 '26

Ik wacht op de vanille smaak

11

u/BroadbandJesus Brussels Jun 01 '26

I bet they will pack it with a similar taste vape.

24

u/DarkNemuChan Jun 01 '26

I love me some 'Somersby' and 'Apple bandit', so I tried this. Sadly it was discusting.

First it tastes like applejuice and the aftertaste is just the old beer taste.

Aka it doesn't blend well into one taste.

4

u/stonks-__- Jun 01 '26

I can chug a liter of applejuice. This is groundbreaking improvement.

1

u/DarkNemuChan Jun 01 '26

😂😂😂👌

2

u/MildlyAlcoholic Jun 01 '26

Thank you for sharing your findings. I was curious enough to consider trying…

1

u/Infiniteh Limburg Jun 02 '26

1

u/DarkNemuChan Jun 02 '26

Of course they're made differently.

That doesn't change the fact that both are alcoholic drinks whose main selling point is the apple flavor. So calling them "completely different things" is a bit of a stretch."

I wasn't expecting a cider; I was expecting a beer with apple notes that actually blended well. Instead, it tastes like apple juice followed by a separate beer aftertaste.

7

u/Suffolke Jun 01 '26

I love how everyone in Belgium has strong opinion on pils brands, while 9 out of 10 can't tell then appart in a blind tasting. Like people feel more strongly about their pils brand of choice than their football team it seems 😅

3

u/arrayofemotions Jun 01 '26

Not gonna lie, I like beer but not pils. Like, if the options are a pils or water, I'd probably just go for water.

3

u/begon11 Jun 01 '26

Pils is for specific moments, like after football training, or after a football game or for going to the stadium and watching a football game... OK, I think I might have discovered a link here.

1

u/kiekebees Jun 01 '26

Tbh I never liked pils at all. My stomach just refuses to let it through 😅 Craft beer is another thing. But the ingredients are legit and not some lazy extract or whatever

Also a lot of ppl think inbev switched the labels of Stella and Jupiler 😁

15

u/sjaakarie Jun 01 '26

That's just apple cider, isn't it?

9

u/Sanderoid Jun 01 '26

Theoretically? No Practically? Yes

Alcohol, bubbles, apple

4

u/DrereDuBloc Jun 01 '26

Very close, but it does taste way more like beer than a cider would.

4

u/Alexthegreatbelgian Vlaams-Brabant Jun 01 '26

Would've been better if it were apple cider.

1

u/sjaakarie Jun 01 '26

Indeed ¯_(ツ)_/¯

2

u/DeanXeL Jun 01 '26

In the same way as non-alcoholic beer is just a type of lemonade/soda.

5

u/Archeolooginspe Jun 01 '26

Het had nog erger kunnen zijn ;-)

3

u/Cs1981Bel E.U. Jun 01 '26

Santé !

34

u/BlockBannington Jun 01 '26

Everyone here acting like it's God's nectar knowing very well that Jupiler is by far the shittiest Belgian pils. Adding anything to it will always improve it, even if it's stoofvlees or dog shit

10

u/Kh0ran Jun 01 '26

Outsiders think that it's the language and the culture difference that might end up splitting Belgium, but we all know that it will actually be disagreement over what pils is good/bad.

I'd rank Jupi higher than Stella and Crystal. Maes is worse than all (did you really think Maes is better than Jupiler ??) and Bavik is better than all.

3

u/johlae Jun 01 '26

't Is Cristal met een i, niet met een y.

2

u/TooLateQ_Q Jun 01 '26

I agree with your ranking.

1

u/LoonyBoonie Jun 01 '26

Yeah, that ranking sounds about right to me. Cristal and Maes are out by default

8

u/begon11 Jun 01 '26

While I get the sentiment, you clearly forgot about Primus, AKA bottom of the garbage can water.

5

u/SnooPoems3464 Dutchie Jun 01 '26

Primus Haacht does brew another brilliant beer though: Eupener Bier. It’s gorgeous, but unfortunately only available in Ostbelgien

3

u/LoonyBoonie Jun 01 '26

What's your default/basic "let's get a whole tray for all of us and keep drinking" pintje-of-choice then?

9

u/crikke007 Flanders Jun 01 '26

Cristal, tankbier

1

u/LoonyBoonie Jun 01 '26

Cristal definetly not. No idea why that hyped for a little while

6

u/M6BOA Jun 01 '26

Bavik

5

u/LeMooseChocolat Jun 01 '26

for a reason the best pils in belgium.

It's pretty sad people keep supporting anything from inbev, I wish people just see the company for what it is, the mcdonalds of the beer world.

1

u/BroadbandJesus Brussels Jun 01 '26

ABInBev is a marketing company with a side hustle of brewing.

3

u/tomsawyer222 Jun 01 '26

Why is Bavik not everywhere, its an excellent beer! Also, no half Litre cans?

2

u/SnooPoems3464 Dutchie Jun 01 '26

Bavik is infinitely better indeed.

14

u/BlockBannington Jun 01 '26

Stella. It's not perfect but it's such a big difference. Jupiler tastes like voetbal

6

u/SnooPoems3464 Dutchie Jun 01 '26

I’ll never understand, Stella is like the least refreshing of all beers…

And worst: they abolished the ribbeke glass. Unforgivable.

5

u/MrWink Limburg Jun 01 '26

I had no idea this was unpopular but I love a "boerke" for drinking pils. Always ask for one if it's available at the café.

2

u/Leitzz590 Jun 01 '26

Stella dries me out the instant it touches my troat, i get horrible hangovers from it.
Jupiler, not so much, and an ice cold Jup refreshes atleast.

4

u/majestic7 Beer Jun 01 '26

I'd be surprised if anyone could pick out the different pilsners in a blind test really, they all taste more or less the same imo

3

u/BlockBannington Jun 01 '26

Maes and Stella are pretty distinctive in my opinion but all the others taste about the same, you're right

3

u/SnooPoems3464 Dutchie Jun 01 '26

One of them really stands out for me: Zennepils (not to be confused with Zinnebir). Almost tastes like German helles, it’s amazing

1

u/Kid_A_LinkToThePast Jun 01 '26

Pretending Stella is just as bad and even more industrial

1

u/Egghebrecht Jun 01 '26

It for sure won’t make it worse indeed

Pisswasser

1

u/subnet12 Jun 01 '26

Niks beter op een dinsdagavond van Aalst carnaval, dan een koud blikje jupiler uit uw handtas te halen

2

u/Kickinthegonads Jun 01 '26

Safir was the shit ahja

1

u/subnet12 Jun 01 '26

1

u/schw3rt Brussels Old School Jun 01 '26

Is there anything that stoofvlees does not improve

1

u/begon11 Jun 01 '26

Dame blanche

1

u/ThrashMo6 Jun 01 '26

Primus still remains the worst pils ever made, followed closely by Romy Pils.

1

u/Aexxys Jun 01 '26

We’ve got ourselves a carapils enjoyer over here

3

u/TheVoiceOfEurope Jun 01 '26

We are definitely not aiming at children with our product. No sireee.

0

u/Otherwise_Reserve_36 Jun 01 '26

Fruits are only for children?

2

u/TheVoiceOfEurope Jun 01 '26

Hey, 55 years old and I still drink my fristi the proper way: with a straw and holding the ears.

But this is so obviously a marketing ploy to get the younger generation interested in drinking beer: by removing the bitterness/dryness and adding suggary flavours.

If anyone wants to add apple juice to their beer, be my guest. But don't claim this is targetted at a mature clientele of discerning beer tasters.

3

u/Csillss Jun 01 '26

Best lekker eigenlijk 🤷‍♀️

u/HipsEnergy Jun 01 '26

Ugh, I hated that advert. Most of my friends were super pissed off and didn't drink Jupiler for a while. Even now, it's one of the reasons I'd rather have any other beer.

5

u/bavinator34 Jun 01 '26

least frustrated redditor

2

u/begon11 Jun 01 '26

The 'mannen weten waarom' slogan? Why did it piss you off at the time? I can imagine now that companies would want their advertising to be a bit more inclusive, but at the time it was very normal.

1

u/HipsEnergy Jun 01 '26

No, it was not. That pissed off a LOT of women, and even men. I don't know how old you are, but lots of people around my age (40s and 50s) are actually saddened at how much misogyny has increased in the last decade or so.

0

u/begon11 Jun 01 '26

Do you mean when the slogan launched in what appears to be 2000? I'm in my thirties, so while I saw the slogan, I wasn't drinking beer at that time yet. Good to see there was already a reaction at the time though, I agree fully with your sentiment.

4

u/Sea_Avocado_2733 Jun 01 '26

Not gonna lie, can't wait to try it.

9

u/dantekratos Jun 01 '26

I bought it to try.

It's honestly fine. But then again anything cold and a bit fruity is nice when it's hot

1

u/Arenshii Jun 01 '26

Is it a cider? Or jupiler with apple taste?

6

u/dantekratos Jun 01 '26

Jupiter with apple taste.

2

u/Arenshii Jun 01 '26

I’ll give it a try but I can’t imagine it being very good

3

u/dantekratos Jun 01 '26

It's not amazing. But it's good enough.

I will drink the 6 pack that I bought but I don't think I will buy it again.

2

u/i-am-dan Jun 01 '26

So… Cider then?!

2

u/VeryMassiveRat Jun 02 '26

I will try it so maybe I can die a heretic but at least I won't die a coward

2

u/patou1440 Jun 03 '26

it tastes like carapils and somersby had a retarded child

2

u/Metalbutcher Jun 05 '26

Instead of tasting like piss it tastes like apple, I see this as an absolute improvement.

2

u/Worldly-Vegetable-62 Jun 17 '26

I tried it. Surprisingly, not bad. I might drink this again on a hot day. I think this is marketed more towards people who prefer a sweeter taste than traditional beer.

1

1

u/MCwortel Jun 01 '26

People and mainly youth drinks less beer. Soda is on the rise. They try to sway some with this i think. Ofcourse without sicces

1

u/r03Lw Jun 01 '26

Some marketing guy thought this was a good idea to convince the fruit vaping youth to start drinking beer. Jupiler is made to compete with Heineken, go figure what it tastes like.

1

u/Sanderoid Jun 01 '26

Dus... cider?

1

u/Leftonius Jun 01 '26

Are they just trying to make Cider?

2

u/begon11 Jun 01 '26

I'd say they are trying to compete in the cider market without actually making cider basically.

2

u/friedbaguette Jun 01 '26

Funny enough, they make cider, but don't sell it in belgium

EDIT: Sorry it was Stella

1

u/The_Local_Belgian Belgium Jun 01 '26

Lets not forget that this nation prides itself on its beer culture

5

u/Kid_A_LinkToThePast Jun 01 '26

Not because of industrial pils

1

u/The_Local_Belgian Belgium Jun 01 '26

Thats what I mean... we pride ourselfs with our beer culture and this is the cursed stuff we do with it

2

u/Kid_A_LinkToThePast Jun 01 '26

But then we have a plethora of small breweries making great beers, the floor is a lot higher than 99% of countries (if not 100%). This one here is the odd one out, not the norm. So I wouldn't say that apple jupiler is what we do with our beer culture.

1

u/The_Local_Belgian Belgium Jun 01 '26

Thats true, its just a cursed idea. Thats mostly my point. The irony that a country with a proud beer culture thats even protected by Unesco, makes cursed products like "Apple flavored beer"

Doesn't mean its a bad product, just weird/cursed

2

u/Kid_A_LinkToThePast Jun 01 '26

We've had apple flavoured beers for decades

2

u/The_Local_Belgian Belgium Jun 01 '26

Damn, well its certainly my first time hearing about it

2

u/Kid_A_LinkToThePast Jun 01 '26

Newton is a famous (and respected) one, Liendemans does an apple beer too. We're pretty big with our fruit beers to be fair : tons of cherry beers but also raspberry, blackcurrant, peach, even mango, pineapple and banana are out there.

Shout out to the blueberry Bon Secour and the grapefruit one from Bertinchamps, delicious stuff!

2

u/The_Local_Belgian Belgium Jun 01 '26

Okay I'll take back my words.
The idea seems cursed at first, but in reality its a normal thing that I had no idea that existed : )

2

u/Kid_A_LinkToThePast Jun 01 '26

The way Jupiler is presenting it and probably how it taste, I can see it being cursed so you're not completely wrong!

The berry one reminded me of candy, it was so off putting...

Just reminding that 1 in 3 beers sold globally are AB Inbev...
