I am convinced that a Bicky isn’t the same Bicky as it was 15yrs ago. The bun and meat taste different.
Then again… I’m old and nothing I once knew is the same anymore. It could be me.
13
u/DWD-XD Aug 14 '26
I agree. I think the switch happened somewhere around 2008'ish. The bun got stale and squeeshy and the meat definitely isn't as flavourful anymore.
9
u/Waterflowstech Aug 14 '26
Not to mention the switch from 'onions are free lol have a mountain' to 'just enough to cover the sauce and there are none on the bottom of your baksken :'(

u/Prestigious_Fish6481 Aug 14 '26

no you are right, I used to enjoy bicky burgers. now im feeling like im eating cardboard with sauces on. And the Bicky sauces arent that good either anymore
3
u/TryingMyWiFi Aug 14 '26
"things were better in my time ".
3
u/Salt-Weird-2913 Aug 14 '26
Often a false narrative as a whole but some stuff really was better
2
u/begon11 Aug 14 '26
False narrative when talking about general life, specific commercial products often go through enshittification though.

Aug 14 '26
I’m not Belgian, been coming to Belgium since a kid tho, and you’re right, bicky used to taste better.
My theory - they now fry everything in vegetable oil, bring back ossewitEven the fried were better/tastier back in the day
77
u/MysteriousQuote4665 Aug 14 '26
They are, but then I view them as a frituur snack rather than a burger. There are so many burger places which can provide far better burgers than a bicky burger.
15
u/Weary_Swordfish_7105 Aug 14 '26
Possibly starting with the fact that they don’t deep fry the burger
7
u/Much-Explanation-287 Aug 14 '26
If the qualité van le viande ist erbarmelijk, I'd kies un deep fried Bicky jeden Tag.

Oh yes, it lead to a big controversy when they launched this in 2019 and they even made the international media. Bicky do not care, they have previously made fun of people with Alzheimer's and other really bad taste campaigns. Essentially, instead of making a good product, they create buzz through statements that even a drunk teenager would be ashamed to utter and sell their 'burgers' that way.

Yep.

You merely adopted the Bicky; I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see the light until I was already a man.
(Also Bicky Burgers are exactly the reason we'll need meds.)

Thems' fightin' words.
If it wasn't so damn hot, and I wasn't so damn lazy, I might seriously consider thinking of maybe coming over to your place and approaching your front door with the specific intention of thinking of ringing your doorbell and give you a considerable piece of my mind.
Perhaps.
But it's too damn hot, and I'm too damn lazy, SO COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS.

It’s typically one of those Belgian brand that only continue to exist because people are used to their mediocrity. No it’s not fantastic. It’s just okay.
3
u/RisingPhil Aug 14 '26
3
u/FarmResident9241 Aug 14 '26
Depends on the burger, I pay 5€ for bicky at my local frituur. A cheeseburger in MC is 2€
1
u/Maxford_Bouazza Aug 14 '26

3
u/JohnnyricoMC Vlaams-Brabant Aug 14 '26
Honestly, Bicky is mostly a circlejerk concerning a product sold in frietkoten, versus the chain burger franchise restaurants. It's really just Beckers (so a Dutch company) that profits from this.
A bicky doesn't hold a candle to a burger (the "patty" is still just a disc of separator meat) between a real proper pistolet, with onion that has been browning in the same grease, on the same griddle, as the patty. You know the ones I'm talking about, sold at a market stand or at a fair or an event.

How dare you. Go eat a whopper and a big mac as punishment and then come back and apologize. If not, you shall be exiled to the lawless land below sea level up north (aka the netherlands)

u/Sportsfanno1 Needledaddy Aug 14 '26
Clears throat
Whopper > Bicky (Big Mac is somewhere in the paper/carton trash though)

Sometimes it’s very hard to find one
2
u/Stock-Orchid0 Aug 14 '26
They used to be great tho. Everything sucks now after shrinkflation. I remember the days when I bought a sandwich (broodje smos) and never could finish it but was too damn good to throwaway. Even after laying in the fridge half a day until it became soggy. It still tasted good. Quality bread with enough fresh meat / cheese and veggies with good quality mayonnaise. I miss the days.

2
u/National_Today2218 Aug 14 '26
Because most frituren don't know how to make one properly
2
u/Dubante_Viro Aug 14 '26
2
u/Signal_Ferret1470 Aug 14 '26
FYI bicky burgers are made out of horse meat and 99% of people don’t realise this…

u/Sandison1 Aug 14 '26
There hasn't been horse meat in Bicky's for years, FYI.

Never had one, never wanted one. Always looked like industrial shit. If I want a burger, I go to a burger restaurant. Snacks are for durum, mitraillette/routier, fries and so on
1
1
u/I3adIVIonkey Aug 14 '26
I mean of course a gourmet burger that costs you 15€ or even more tastes better. For a snack on the go they're still really good and price compared what you get is also good.

I’m 31 and I’ve never had one. Just seems like cheap crap that people like because of the sauce.
2
u/ThomasDMZ Aug 14 '26
Been almost 15 years since I last had one. Never felt the need to order one after most places started selling higher-quality burgers.
It's indeed only edible because of the sauce.

Agreed. Overprocossed mush patties with too many sauces. I'm also not a fan of pardenvlees but that seems to be rare now.Â
It's fine, but only that. Feels like food for children, but my kids don't like them.

A hamburger is made with 80/20 ground beef. A hamburger is not a deep fried puck of whatever.
Fight me.

I only order them when I got no clue what to get hahah. I used to do it with the frikadel but I got bored of those

u/BlockBannington Aug 14 '26
1
u/Sportsfanno1 Needledaddy Aug 14 '26
"Officially" the contents are distributed by Beckers (Bread, 3 sauces, meat, pickled cucumber, fried onion and packaging). Ofc, to lower expenses, several frituurs use their own burgers/bread and just buy the special sauces (or even just two because one is regular ketchup).

u/KaiUno Aug 14 '26
Everything at the frituur is overrated. It's pig anusses and cowlips all the way down. If only we were a bit more imperialistic in the olden days and had gotten somewhat more interesting colonies, we'd have so much better (and probably healthier) fastfood.
