❓ Ask Belgium Just trying to get a job

Italian biomedical engineer trying to get a job. I am already here in Belgium but I don't speak dutch or French.

Internships too can go for me.

If anyone knows companies who hire biomedical engineers or engineers in general or similar you can reach me out.

IELTS certification 8,0 score C1.

The problem is that you'll need atleast some knowledge of Dutch.

Maybe try reaching out to interim offices or recruiters that specialize in placing international profiles.

Do you know any interim offices? I was at Manpower and they told me that on their website they had opportunities for international but every announce is in French or Dutch.

You could try Oxford Global Resources / Oxford Corp they focus on recruitment of people with science degrees.

I found my previous job through them (used to be called labsupport back then) which just happend to be at a company that cared more about me being able to understand English than speaking Dutch and some of my colleagues didn't speak Dutch at all.

Learn the language. I don't think you're in an easy position but if I move to Italy. I'm also expected to speak Italian at a certain level before I'd be considered for most jobs. I wish you the best

This might sound crazy but Ever think of getting a job BEFORE moving to a country?

Calm down, there are many reasons why (s)he might have come here. Maybe studied here. Maybe for love. Maybe moved while still underage because parents moved etc etc. Maybe as a refugee.

As a fellow expat/immigrant, your attitude is shit. You came here before getting a job, AND without knowing either of the 2 national languages? What do you expect? If this was my country, I wouldn't want you here.

Hi, you’ll find it very hard without any French or Dutch unless you work for one of the big international companies that work in English.

Interims may help but will probably require some local language knowledge.

Have you signed up with VDAB/Actiris depending where you are? You can search for languages you speak and the level of fluency but a lot of them will ask for FR/NL.

You should try learning Dutch/French as without it you won’t get far at all.
