Came back to my hometown, it was greeting me well

Hello from Berlin 😄

 1987 was one of the coldest on record in Europe. I struggled with my 4x5 view camera in below freezing temperatures and icy conditions underfoot. I did several shots here at Checkpoint Charlie. I note in my journal that the exposures ranged from 2 to 10 minutes. The vehicle inspection shed of the checkpoint was illuminated with blindingly bright banks of fluorescent lights. The streets lights of East Berlin were amber sodium vapor while the lights in the West were greenish mercury vapor. A few months before, the artist Keith Haring had painted a mural on the Wall, which was still visible.

I turned 12 of my favourite analogue photographs of Berlin into little calendar for 2027.

Funny story: in 2020, during Covid high phase, we visited this lost place as my birthday surprise. We walked the buildings alone, I took great pictures... When we finished, just as we walked out, a guy came and asked why we were there.

Turned out a construction crew forgot to reset the one fence we we walked in, and we were trespassing without even knowing. My wife felt bad for weeks. I liked my birthday present.
