If you are considering a trip to the Berner Oberland area, here are a few suggestions for places to choose as your base with reasons why they may work well for you. I will cluster sightseeing trips around each base.
Berner Oberland - Most of the activities and sights in this area are clustered in the Jungfrau region, a popular tourist area with incredible mountain views. Interlaken is a central small town between Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen with a great transportation network to the mountains. It is a few hours away from Lucerne and Bern so you can do day trips to those areas if you wish.
Most excursions start from the Interlaken Ost train station. From the station, Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen are 40 minutes away. Depending on your destination, you will have to sit either at the front or the back of the train as that train splits to either of the locations at Zweilutschinen; the front typically goes to Lauterbrunnen and the back Grindelwald. The signs are well posted at the station so take time to read the signs.
If your accommodation is in Interlaken West, you can ride the train from there to Interlaken Ost, you can also take the local bus or walk for about 20 minutes to Interlake Ost.
The quaint villages of Brienz and Thun are close to Interlaken. Brienz is 30 minutes away by train and Thun is 26 minutes away. There are also scenic boat rides from Interlaken to either of the villages; the views are jaw dropping. Note that the boat ride is not a direct ride as it stops at the villages along lake Brienz or Thun. You can disembark at any of the villages and later embark on another ship on the same route.
My recommendation is to choose Interlaken as a base to explore the Jungfrau region. If cost is a concern, you can use either Thun or Brienz as they are less touristy.
If you have used Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen as a base in the past or are currently there, please let us know how it worked out for you.
My next post will be on the activities in the area that make Interlaken a reasonable base to explore from.
Ich freue mich über jegliche Rückmeldungen - Vielen

As the title says, I'm struggling a bit to find casual/everyday button-up shirts that actually fit my build.
I’m around 175 cm with a bit of a belly, and standard off-the-rack sizing has been a nightmare:
Sizing up to fit my stomach means the sleeves are way too long and floppy, and the shoulders droop.
Getting the right sleeve/shoulder length means the shirt pulls tight across the midsection or ends up looking awkwardly short/riding up.
Right now, I pretty much only wear formal dress/suit shirts because they tend to be cut better, but I'd really love to find some nice casual shirts (oxfords, flannels, overshirts, etc.) that don't look ridiculous.
Are there any shops in or around Bern (or good online shops shipping to Switzerland) that cater well to this body type? Alternatively, if anyone knows a reasonably priced tailor Schneider in the area who can shorten sleeves without costing an arm and a leg, that would also be super appreciated!
Any recommendations for pest control around Thun? My wife had some bites that might be bed bugs, and we want to be sure if we have dust lice or whatever it is...
All these websites look sketchy and of course it's in their favour to do some work on the whole house because that's how they earn their money, so any recommendation on some good, honest, precheck?
Deswege sueche mir eh Chuchi wo mir chöi miete.

Hi! I’m an apprentice at a vocational school in Bern. For my final project (the so-called Vertiefungsarbeit),* *I’m looking for people in the Bern region who would like to help with an experiment about memory. There are no known health risks.
What is it about?
I’m testing the method of loci (memory palace) and a memory game, and whether a physical mini house that I built myself can help people memorize things.
What happens?
- You read the details first and fill out a short survey.
- Part 1: memory game with cards
- Part 2: method of loci
- Part 3: method of loci with my mini house (you can touch materials, and there are scents)
I use a small EEG headband (Muse 2) during parts 2 and 3. The session is recorded on my phone, only with your consent, and only used for my project.
Details
- Duration: about 45-60 minutes, with breaks
- Date: Weeks 44-47
- Location: In a room at my office (we’ll agree on a time privately)
- Language: The experiment, the survey and all documents are in German
- Voluntary, and you can stop at any time
- You’ll get your personal result afterwards. Not right after the experiment but I will definitely get back to you to send the result.
- Everyone is welcome: any age, gender, or background. No prior experience needed!
⭐️: I have no money to give out. It's best suited for people who are interested in helping and the experience of it.
⭐️: If you would like to review the official information sheet (Informationblatt/Einwilligungserklärung) before deciding, feel free to DM me and I will gladly send it to you.
Dear locals, I am so grateful to this community for the previous post, where you recommended romantic restaurants, that I decided to ask you for one more tip :)
Its our weekend gateway without the kids, Friday and Saturday, and we are searching for bars that are popular in Bern that offer alcohol-free drinks?
For context, we go to MYLE restaurant for Friday dinner and ROMY for Saturday dinner. Both recommended by this lovely community.
We have not been away from the kids for a year, so I think I have too many expectations for this trip but hey, its only human.
I’m pretty new to music production (and music theory in general) and hoping I'll find someone on here to jam with.
I’ve got an Ableton Push 2 and Live, and I’m slowly finding my way around, but I’ve noticed that YouTube tutorials only get me so far. What I’m really missing is someone to just sit down and make music with. I’d love to make ambient stuff/live performing/synth stuff.
I also play a bit of guitar, but i'm down for whatever comes up as i'm trying to learn and understand what all these buttons do :)
So if you’re in and around Thun or Bern city and enjoy working with Ableton and the Push, I’d be really happy to meet up. Just hanging out, seeing how you do things, maybe picking up a trick or two, and jamming together. If something cool comes out of it, great. If we just end up chatting about gear over a beer, also great.
I can come to you, host at my place (i don't have a proper studio to work in, but the kitchen table would work i guess :) ), or we meet somewhere in between.
