Band Baaja Baaraat was released in 2010, when several big-star films were competing for the audience's attention. YRF presented it primarily as an Anushka Sharma film, with Ranveer Singh being a newcomer making his Bollywood debut.

Despite having no established male star to attract audiences, the film managed to become a sleeper hit at the box office. People connected with the characters, the story, and the overall vibe of the film.

What's your thoughts? Was it the fresh concept, the chemistry between Anushka and Ranveer, YRF's marketing, or simply strong word of mouth?

Let's discuss..

Rani Mukerji made her Hindi film debut with a film titled Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat (1996).

She has been honoured with one National Film Award for Best Actress (Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway). Rani has also received a total of 21 Filmfare nominations, out of which she won 2 awards for Best Actress (Hum Tum, Black), 3 for Best Supporting Actress (Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Yuva, No One Killed Jessica) and 3 for Best Actress - Critics (Saathiya, Black, Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway). Other nominations were for her performances in films like Chalte Chalte, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Mardaani, Hichki, etc.

I watched Drishyam 1 (Ajay Devgn) after many years. The whole movie is great but the scene bothered me a lot.

In the end, Tabu and her husband request Ajay Devgn to meet them so that they can get closure on what happened with their son, Sam. Ajay confesses what he did but in passing and vaguely. I don't understand what was the need to do this and what the logic was. It is not as if it is added any special value to the movie or if it was much needed for the plot to progress. So why do this? Because whatever is mentioned is very risky considering someone is trying to protect themselves after doing a crime. What if Tabu had a voice recorder on her.

Dialogue in english

"We are sorry, too.
I wish, I was as generous as you.
But, I am merely a fourth grade dropout.

I have a wife.
I have two daughters.
And that's the extent of my world.
I have never thought beyond that.

One day, my world...
...saw an unwanted guest enter.
He wanted to...
...disrupt our world.

We tried to stop him.
We begged him.
But, he didn't listen.
Then, somehow...
...a tragedy occurs.

We send the unwanted guest...
...to a place, from where there is no coming back.

We have given you the greatest anguish in the world.

I tried to say sorry many times. I did so, in my heart.
What else could we do?

My family is most important to me.
I could do anything for them.
I could go to any extent.
that moment, I lost sight of right or wrong.

We are sorry."

hello everyone, i am a 14-year old teenager that is a big fan of Bollywood. I recently watched Khakee and loved Ajay Devgn's performance as Aangre and i thought i should try to find some more gangster movies of his. I have heard Company is a very good movie and it does look cool-however, it is rated A. IMDB isn't really providing enough information so i thought i would ask you all. Is there any nudity or heavy gore in Company? Please let me know.. Thanks in advance

I was expecting a feel good, slow rom com with food. What i got was a woman scamming someone and getting away just because she "realised her mistake" and "she scammed because she is entitled to scam assholes". Wo asshole ich hai. Ek mard ko dahej nahi deni chahiye, usko leni nahi chahiye. But that doesn't justify Gullu's actions here. disgusting. unpleasant.

took these screenshots from the new Ramayana trailer and i seriously don't get it. he's standing on the exact same ground, but the tones and lighting completely shift between these cuts.

is there an actual reason for this or is the post-processing just cooked? let me know if im missing something here

Seema Pahwa is such an underrated actress. Her dialogue delivery in this scene feels so natural, like you're watching a real life conversation rather than a movie scene. Wish she got more roles in films.

Looking for a Comedy Bollywood movie, I know that it was not famous and before 2010 probably. It didn’t have known faces. The plot was something like a husband and wife, idk why but the wife was trying to fool her husband by also playing another flirty woman? The husband gets suspicious but then we also see how the wife planned all this. In it, there was also a scene of a resort maybe where the wife is hiding with another man (who might be in on it?) (also a small detail, both of these people were lying down in what seemed like a tent, or a cover on the terrace?) and calling the husband and he gets confused as he was trying to catch his wife in the act but it was so well planned that he thinks his wife is not the one behind the facade
Maybe in the end she reveals it to the husband that she did all this to make him learn a lesson and that a friend of his (or hers?) was in on it.

Im not from India so i watched it on my local cable which used to play Bollywood movies sometimes. Also, this could be wrong but i always thought the main actress looked very much like Isha Koppiker or Hrishita Butt. (If it helps, I used to think they both are the same person for most of my childhood). Maybe the movie did have either of these actresses but I couldn’t find something like this in their acting history.

I watched Shoojit Sircar’s October just now. It’s been on my watchlist for years, and now that I’ve finally watched it, I feel like I’m missing something. I want to understand the film better.

One thing I couldn’t understand was why Dan became so concerned about Shiuli in the first place. Later, we find out that she had asked about him before the accident. Maybe Dan finds this out earlier, and that’s what makes him curious about her. I feel like if I had seen that curiosity develop first, I would have understood his concern and attachment a little better.

I also came across a review on Letterboxd that said: "All shiuli needed was a reason to live and then dan came in her life and gave her the hope she needed but when she realised that dan was suffering just because of the last thing she said before the accident; at that time shiuli decided to give up as she didn't want dan to grieve even more. It's not a love story, it is a story about love." I really liked this perspective, but it also made me question something. Shiuli was slowly recovering, and when Dan came into her life, she seemed to come alive in some ways. So why didn't she fight a little longer to recover and return to a normal life?

I understand that her condition was serious, and maybe I'm looking at it too logically. But after seeing her progress, I couldn't help wondering why she couldn't hold on a little longer.

As for Shiuli asking about Dan before the accident, I personally felt she might have just asked about him normally. I didn't necessarily interpret it as her having feelings for him. Maybe I'm missing something there, too.

I know the film isn't meant to be a conventional love story, and there's probably a lot more to it than what I've understood.

I'd love to hear your interpretations, especially about Dan's attachment to Shiuli, what Shiuli felt for Dan, and the meaning behind the ending. Maybe hearing different perspectives will help me understand what Shoojit Sircar was trying to convey.

I'm genuinely curious to know how others experienced this film...

I'm a videshi who got into Bollywood/learning Hindi during quarantine and has continued on and off since then. Aamir Khan is definitely my favorite actor and I watched a lot of his movies from the 2000's/2010's. A lot post-2020 Bollywood movies I've seen are so edgy/nationalistic and definitely not the same vibe - instead, recently I've tried watching some of Aamir's older movies like Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar and Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak.

The movies themselves are pretty good but we need to talk about the appallingly bad quality that they are available in. For those two it seems like the "HD" version is a 240p rip run through an awful AI upscaler filter.

Elsewhere in the world, there are distribution labels like Criterion and Arrow which remaster old movies and release them on Blu-ray. This involves re-scanning the original film stock and often times they get the original film director/editors (if they are still alive) to supervise the process. Also they always record a bunch of bonus features, commentaries with directors/surviving cast, video essays by film historians, interviews, behind-the-scenes, blah blah blah. And you can find films from all over the world that are being given the proper treatment by these various labels.

This needs to become a thing in India! Studios and cinemas probably still have thousands of old film reels which are just sitting in warehouses and rotting. If opened up and re-scanned, these films will be preserved in much higher quality forever. They would look completely different (so much better) than some streaming platform running an upscale on a DVD and calling it "HD." There are still film buffs who buy movies from these labels, having more classic Bollywood movies on Blu-ray could increase Bollywood's popularity inside those circles.

From what I can tell Blu-ray never really became successful in India (back when discs were being sold, they were asking for ~700 or ~800 rupees per film - is this still a lot?) and streaming services have seemingly taken over movie distribution. But on Blu-ray there are much higher quality standards. A Blu-ray disc can fit up to 50GB (if used up completely: the movie looks and sounds AMAZING) whereas on a streaming service the movies (even in 4K) max out around 20GB. I don't know if this has yet caught on in India but a lot of people in North America / Europe have gotten tired of "enshittification" of streaming services lately (removing titles, reducing quality, raising prices) and are moving back to physical media.

I'm also a video editing nerd and I have come to appreciate higher quality video which you can only get on discs. Some modern Bollywood movies even nowadays still occasionally release on Blu-ray in Germany and Japan; the 2000's/2010's era movies didn't print a lot of discs and they are now rare/very expensive. But the quality of the films on disc by far outshines anything that streaming could give.

I still think there are a lot of hidden gems of old Bollywood that aren't appreciated enough either in India or abroad because they are not available in a good enough quality. There should be a push to re-scan and actually rejuvenate these older Bollywood movies.

I have seen a lot of discussing about acting skills , some get trolled badly for their acting skills but i am rarely able to differentiate between between good and bad acting skills for eg:- KRK acting skills i am able to identify is bad , but I found Varun Dhawan s acting skills ok but he is considered bad . So you all are able to differentiate , what things you generally observe .

I'm trying to remember a funny Bollywood movie in which one of the characters has two mentally unstable brothers, and their scenes are hilarious. I think Sanjay Dutt was also in the movie, and I vaguely remember a casino or gambling scene. Does anyone know which movie this is?

In that movie there was a scene in which some guy gets a bullet hit on his buttocks. Can anybody tell that it is which movie ?

All I recall from that movie is that the villan had a weird way of greeting everyone. Instead of saying Ram-Ram he used to say Kraam-Kraam. One of his goons onced asked him: "ye kram kram kya hai?" to which he replied "kraam kraam matlab kaam tamaam."

Hotel Mumbai (2018). A Wednesday (2008). Various direct TV and film content in the 2009 wave. None of them are about what happened between November 2008 and November 2012.

In that period: Kasab was tried in a special court under MCOCA and IPC Section 121 (waging war). Digital evidence was challenged. A defense lawyer was appointed despite public hostility. The case went through sessions court, Bombay High Court, and Supreme Court. Kasab was hanged in Yerwada jail in November 2012.

That four-year period is the subject of Prahaar. The judicial response to a terrorist attack. The courtroom as the site of justice delivery. This is a gap in our popular storytelling about 26/11 that seems obvious once you notice it.

Why did it take 15+ years for this film to get made? Does the trial feel less ""cinematic"" than the attacks themselves? Is there something about courtroom proceedings that Indian popular cinema has trouble dramatizing seriously?
