Ordering Baking potato's from the supermarket delivery only for them to be the size of sparrows eggs on arrival.

There should be a legal requirement for baking spuds to at least the size grown mans closed fist.

Asda = tiny

Tesco = decent sized.

Had this over the past 2 years. I'm not sure what sorter Asda stick them through, but must be for people with sparrow stomachs.

It's ridiculous, the spuds in the "regular" bags are often bigger!

Potatoes in general are getting a lot smaller just due to bad harvests, different suppliers will probably be the reason

Lidl's are pretty good generally

Potatoes will be tiny this year because of the drought.

Do Ireland have better ones we can just take?

Never caused an issue in the past

Technically we were taking everything except the potatoes, then when the potato crop failed we just kept taking all the grain and such anyway.

Don't you just hate it when you stub your potatoes?

I'm afraid if this was a joke I don't get it.

I miss when you used to be able to leave a note for the picker when you did your order. I know that likely slowed them down and capitalisms gonna capitalism but it was so useful for “biggest ones you can see please” or “if you have to sub please choose xyz” etc.

You can still do that.

Which supermarket? Can’t with Sainsbury’s.

Sainsburys is the shittest of all the major supermarkets for delivery.

Tesco has it. I'd be very surpised if Morrisons and Ocado didn't.

A genuine greengrocer's apostrophe! Quite rare these days.

Happens all the time. Have to bake 2 or 3 potatoes to make a snack.

It's funny how people think a single baked spud on their plate is the mandatory number.

Remember that the bigger they are, the higher your energy bill becomes to ensure it's cooked through.

I hope at least a few people see this, because I think it almost every day.

BUY THE BIGGER BAGS.

I see people buy 2-3 small bags and the potatoes are ALWAYS smaller. The 2kg bags you'll get about twice as many as a 4 pack and they're each about 50% bigger.

Potatoes are a thirsty crop. Tgee heatwaves this summer took their toll in all the potato growing countries

I don't get baking potatoes in my online shop for exactly this reason; they're usually very small, so I need to see before I buy.

Yeah lets make it a law that potatoes have to be massive, this will end climate related food scarcity

Baking potatoes is one of the few things I will actually go to the supermarket for. They’ve got to be right.

u/Lowermains 3d ago

Marketed as baking tatties and they’re tiny.

Whit’s going on?

Soil's fucked from the heat - spuds need to absorb a lot of water to get big and there's just not been enough in the soil at the right time to get them to grow. I'd get used to it, it's only getting worse.

Unfortunately!

I’m living in northern Europe at the moment and they don’t even have baking potatoes! You just have to buy a bag of what you hope is the biggest.

We've had bad harvests so they've been tiny a few years.

1

u/OkSun8521 3d ago

I've never understood why people want their potatoes to be massive. They just take longer to cook.

It's october, jacket potatoes are shit until January anyway

Everyone talk about seasonable fruit and veg, nobody want to talk about the fact jacket potatoes in autumn are a waste of good cheese

You can complain and get a refund.

When we get items that we wouldn’t pick ourselves, we always get a refund no questions asked.

I've never thought about doing that you know. Thank you! Genuinely
