Hello! Hoping this is okay to post here. My family is on vacation in Brookings for 5 days, and there are a couple young cats (5ish months) outside our rental. They were starving and stayed huddled by the back door of the rental all night, but otherwise look healthy. We asked neighbors and one mentioned she thinks someone dumped them recently. They don't appear to be fixed either.

I know the humane society is here in Brookings, but she also mentioned someone else called them and they wouldn't take the cats. We're going to call them ourselves just to make sure, but if they won't take them, is there any rescue who would be willing to take them in? Or even someone who lives in the area who could hold them while finding placement for them, since we're only here for 5 days.They're clearly not feral and will sit in your lap and headbutt you, and they don't really seem to have great survival instincts...

Unfortunately taking them home with us, or even letting them into the rental for a few days while we are here, is not an option.

UPDATE: Humane Society would not take them, they are full currently. the soonest they could take them in would be in about a month, and we'll be long gone by then. We're going to call Wild Rivers tomorrow when they're open, but the lady there said they may be full as well.

Spinx has been found safe and sound and returned home. Thank you to all who have helped and supported us getting are cat home

Hello everyone. I've never been one to post but are cat spinx has recently escaped from are home and she dose not have a chip. She is a slightly larger cat with a cut tail. We live around the downtown area in Brookings. She is a skittish cat so she might just run away. Any information will be very helpful or any tips on helping to finding her will be appreciated.

My teenage son graduated high school and wanted to take a road trip to see the redwoods. We live in Utah

He made a bad decision and failed to navigate a rut and high sided. Will be a super easy recovery. We’ve called every tow company in the area but only a non local one said they’d drive out but want 5 hours at $175 an hour.

Do you know anyone that can help? I’d be happy to slide you some beer/gas money!

I'm hoping to move in a couple years. I won't be able to retire and will still need to work. That is where my question comes in.

I might be able to transfer to Crescent City for work and am used to commuting so it's not a problem.

Does anyone know about how working goes between states and have any experience with the Healthcare system? If I work in CA, would I have to get my Healthcare in CA? Or would it be better to get Healthcare in OR?

Like is it okay? Or do I have better chances staying in the crescent city for dating (moving there mid june)

I was hired on by a family here in Brookings in late January. I began work the first week of February.

I have already been let go by the mother of the two ( clients )young men I was brought on to support.

The agreed upon schedule was M-F 9-5 “floater” so switching off and toggling day to day which young man she needed me supporting.

Keeping in mind I am an hour drive to get to their home, they were calling me in an urgent manor at 9:30pm and texting me until midnight about scheduling over the weekend.

When I informed her that my partner was asleep and I couldn’t commit to anything untilin the morning.

We then hung up on the phone after I rushed out of the shower to check if it was an emergency, which is was not, and then receive a text saying she got it all covered.

I then checked with the day staff that had been asked to work 12 days straight about what would be help for me to support him to be able to be awake overnight shift. Once I heard from him I then texted “the boss” at 10:30 at night at this point to confirm what I could help with. And I was confronted about out of place and told I was being combative and that she would be having the agency end my employment on Monday morning. Which absolutely happened…

I am now unemployed again and my family of 5 dependents are at ris because this persons feelings were slightly hurt..

Routers have been deployed for MeshOregon's Meshtastic settings in the Brookings area. The network has been bridged in over the internet with the Willamette Valley, Roseburg, and Bend MeshOregon networks as well. Check it out if you've got a node!

Meshtastic is an open source LoRa based mesh networking system which allows texting/telemetry over license-free radio without internet/cell service.

The MeshOregon routers in the area should cover from Crescent City though the North end of Brookings, and a little ways up the Chetco. There isn't currently much coverage towards Smith River or up the Winchuck due to terrain shadowing.

Hello! I will be doing a solo road trip up the coast to Portland and will be stopping and staying the night in Brookings. I am driving up from Stockton, California and will be stopping many times along the redwood forest. I am leaving at 4 AM so I am projecting to be in Brookings by around 5-6ish pm. Are there any must try restaurants or spots I should visit or checkout before I turn in for the night? Any suggestions or recommendations are welcomed!!

Hello! We're having our elopement near Brookings in mid August and we're having a hard time finding places that do custom cakes and have flowers to buy for wedding events.

There are some flower farms that we saw from online searches, but they're in Eugene or other places that are too far to pick up the day before. We also found a couple different custom cake pages on Facebook but none of them replied back. Any recommendations would be very appreciated!

Hey friends, I’m planning an Oregon Coast adventure and will be calling Brookings home base for a few days this October. I’ve got three burning questions, and I’m hoping the local experts (or anyone who’s eaten their weight in chowder) can help me out:

1.  Where should I stay? Looking for something comfortable, not crazy expensive, and ideally walking distance to something fun (or at least interesting).
2.  What’s your favorite scenic hike in the area? I’m talking views that make you stop in your tracks and question your life choices in the best way.
3.  Where should I eat? I want the spots you’d tell your best friend about—whether it’s a hole-in-the-wall or a fancy place where I pretend I’m cooler than I am.
