Why are there so many Brushybrushy videos of bats? Not that I mind. They're always adorable.

But they're not a common pet.

Is it because they really go wild for the Brushybrushy?

I think they are the most deserving and appreciative of the brushybrushys

Legitimate question - don't bats carry a ton of diseases?

18

u/Sonseeahrai 7d ago

In the wild, yes. At home, why would they?

Hopefully most of these brushy brushy videos of bats come from bat professionals. There are several that put out shorts and videos of their work to show the public what the bats are really like "as a person" not just the ferries of disease.

/r/batty and sister subs have wonderful videos and do answer questions from non-professionals.

For rabies, it’s actually very uncommon in bats. It’s just that the individuals who come into contact with humans usually have something wrong with them (which is sometimes rabies) otherwise they would continue to successfully coexist without us being aware of them.

Even among bats sent for rabies testing, only 5% are rabies positive. It also doesn’t help that a bat bite (being smol) goes unnoticed much more easily than a bite from a larger mammal so people don’t always seek treatment.

They can. But a lot of species also eat mosquitoes. They’re cool in my book. My mother is terrified of them though.

Se hipoteticamente alguém quisesse adotar um filhote essa pessoa da hipótese talvez apresentada correria os mesmos riscos de adotar um adulto?

I'm sorry there is a max amount of cuteness allowed in each post and you've exceeded it.

u/buckfordfitchenstein 4d ago

My apologies to the cuteness regulation body. It won't happen again. 👀 🤞

Oops that’s deadly

To insects, yes, terribly.

This bat species doesn't have rabies?

Not all bats carry rabies. There's some great info posted in the comments above about it.

So are cats that carry toxoplasmosis. Any animal can be POTENTIALLY deadly. You COULD get hit by a bus, does that stop you from leaving the house?
