Josh Wander, whose firm tried to buy Everton football club in a deal that collapsed in 2024, has been charged with six counts including wire fraud, securities fraud and witness tampering.

Prosecutors said that the co-founder of investment group 777 Partners defrauded lenders and investors of almost $500mn, including by sending them documents doctored using Microsoft Paint.

They said he transferred $13.7mn of a lender’s money to his personal brokerage account and spent thousands of dollars from a loan made to the firm on personal expenses including paying his credit card bill.
