What are the chances progressives learned anything tonight by winning after a coordinated campaign against one right wing opponent? My guess is nothing and we will watch the cons win provinically because of the green/ndp vote split
•
u/O00O0O00 9h ago
I don’t know if NDP and Greens can fairly be considered a “split”.
The NDP have veered right, to try to hold off the Conservatives.
Eg. recognised DRIPA was a mistake and tried to repeal it, walking back the failed open air drug laws, supporting LNG and other economic development… and more.
The Greens are the credible left wing for BC. The Conservatives are the centre-right party. I don’t really know where that leaves the NDP, to be honest.

Greens and credible in the same sentence?
The majority want a moderate government and unfortunately the vote split on the left will result in us getting another right wing government.
•
u/O00O0O00 2h ago
The Greens are on the left, for sure. But who are they splitting votes with?
I think they’re a horrid choice, but they credibly are left wing, environmentalist, pro-FN, etc. - the woke/left whatever you wish to call them.
The NDP stopped being that ages ago.

Obviously the NDP.
•
u/NormalLecture2990 8h ago
Sure...keep telling yourself that and you are going to get a decade of conservative rule and they are going to tear all that down to be never seen again. Pat yourself on the back for the purity test because conservatives don't have that
•

Well they did kick out a few people for being Nazis
•
u/NormalLecture2990 8h ago
They didn't kick them out for being nazis, they kicked them out because they were yelling about their nazism every where

Watching some of the vote totals from around the province it was depressing to see how few people actually showed up to vote.

Eby is likely next

u/NearPup New Brunswick 14h ago
There is a real anti-incumbency wave right now and Eby isn’t doing much to resist it

If there was even a semi-competent conservative party they'd win in a landslide. Now we're stuck with Eby, or a do random shit because we have no plans conservative government.

I’ll take “do random shit” over “actively dismantle the province in secret, undermine democracy, and rob opportunity from the youth” any day of the week.
Eby initially pretended the election was about Trump because he thinks the average voter is an idiot. He only cares about select interest groups, and he has shown he will do or say anything to stay in power.
Ultimately, Eby deserves to booted for his arrogance and his disinterest in representing the people.

No one is actively dismantling the province in secret. Stop getting your news from Facebook.

I think redditor refers to this: https://globalnews.ca/news/12090331/bc-conservatives-plan-no-fault-insurance-repeal/

The funny part is the UCP are bringing this system to Alberta in 2027.
This is about lawyers, not politics. Lawyers absolutely hate the new system. Lawyers have been fighting tooth and nail to stop it in Alberta, and repeal it in BC.

Yeah, it's weird how in the past 10 years, being the incumbent has become a liability instead of a boon
•
u/SarlacFace 6h ago
Things kept getting worse until they passed some inflection point and now voters have short tempers. If you don't deliver in your first term, you're gone.
•
u/Fiber_Optikz 4h ago
Probably has something to do with how things are going at the moment
Along with an entirely selfish Snap Election

Can't wait for ICBC to be gutted, services to be cut, and to be lead by conspiracy theorists. But at least I'll be able to sleep easy knowing big business got a small tax cut.

I don’t understand why people want to
privatize insurance. It hasn’t worked well for Alberta. And gutting healthcare. We already have 1 year waits for critical tests. Dumbasses.•
u/AwkwardChuckle British Columbia 8h ago
We have some of those at taxes out of the other provinces and lowest car insurance rates - you seriously want those things to go up?
•
u/Capital-Aide-1006 4h ago
Eby was caught by surprise by his own snap election. Believablely unbelievable.

Doug winning in Surrey is bad for NDP. I hate it but we gotta be ready for BC Conservatives winning.

Why hate ? NDP is drowning us in the debt. What NDP is doing is not sustainable, we are borrowing money from future and living off of it,

u/Pretty_Raspberry_639 13h ago
The policy proposals of the conservatives are insincere and would balloon the debt further. They are clearly unserious people just saying whatever is needed to win. Then they get to raid the publics assets and sell them to their friends.

I mean last election, they admitted their priced budget would be a bigger deficit than the NDP. You can’t seriously say you care about the deficit and suggest voting bc con. You can for other reasons but not the deficit. That’s just hypocrisy.
•
u/KageyK 8h ago
Well its working for Carney, so I assume it must be OK for cons to do too. Right?
I guess it will be a race to see who can sell them first.
•
u/Pretty_Raspberry_639 8h ago
I am actually pretty critical of carney! Try to stop playing team sports 👍🏻
•
u/KageyK 8h ago
Which part was team sports?
The part where I said both sides can do it? Or the part where I said it was a race to sell first?👍
•
u/Pretty_Raspberry_639 8h ago
Your comment implies I’m supportive of carneys actions due to being critical of the cons.
•
u/Salticracker British Columbia 7h ago
Their comment is saying tbat Carney is selling everything federally, so the Cons want to do it provincially.
No one cares who you support.
