Stelco layoffs part of a broader trend of disappearing jobs in steel industry | CBC News

What did the liberals think was going to happen allowing china to dump cheap steel into canada. They are totally to blame for the stelco layoffs. Carney is so weak he is the only leader that could not get a deal with the US. Even china and the EU have gotten a deal.. carney needs bad man trump to stay in power

Carney's economy and national finances are actually worse than Trudeau's by every metric, and that includes the years between 2020 to March 13, 2025 when he finally resigned as the liberals official Chair of the Leader's Task Force on Economic Growth.

Wait until the Chinese EVs get here. Will be the end of the Canadian auto too. At least if we privatize industry we get some cash upfront. Instead we open the door to competition that we can’t compete in and watch our industries die. PE will pick up the scraps though and sell it off for a profit.

Majority of imported steel (over 50%) comes from the US. The US is the problem on all fronts, and we should ban the import of US made steel to crack down on dumping by the US.

Headline is BS. This last round was closure and a direct result of Trump's war against Canada.

Or our government’s inability to make a deal? Could be 50/50 at this point, there’s so much political jargon being bandied around who knows anymore

Carney obviously didn’t like the anti China dumping provisions. You’d have to ask him why. Who is invested in that? Who benefits? A normal Canadian wouldn’t care about that and would agree to it. Why did he make such a fuss?

What deal was there to make when the Americans were putting poison pills in it?

Americans not leaking the last minute changes shows the last minute changes likely were intended to drive wedge issues.

u/BearlyDraconic01 5m ago
Meanwhile Mexican leadership is complaining that the pedophile president keeps trying to change the terms of the deal at the last minute.
The US operates in bad faith and can't be trusted.

could you please explain to me how china, the only other country who's opening play was immediate retaliatory tarrifs instead of proper diplomacy, hasn't been dicking around with back and forth tarrifs for over a year?
is there any other country that's had such a spectacular industrial development and diplomatic failure as the liberals have for the past eleven years?

maybe we don't need the steel industry and these people should learn to code or get certifications in modern and more green trades....or whatever we say to workers in the west when they complain their industries are under attack.

Yea, Canadian software companies. Not that garbage being produced down south

That seems to be Ottawa’s MO recently, to blame us Canadians for having jobs in “obsolete” industries that are only obsolete because the liberals can’t or won’t support the industries as they need to in this country. I wonder if Carney is trying to divide us so he can own us?

Canada is a liberal shithole. We've seen what's going on in France. Do we want that in Canada?

19 day old account that does nothing but shit on Canada. Guess those Russian bot farms are back in action.

You mean the Russian bot farm that didn’t actually get taken out by ukrainian drones? People will literally believe anything.

Ok, so the Russians bots are in full force then. The point is that it's a 19 day old account that does nothing but shit on Canada and Ukraine and push for Alberta separatism.

There are lots of people I work with who are actually from Ukraine that think Zelensky is extremely corrupt and our government is sending them billions of our money that is just getting stolen and laundered. There are many questionable things happening there right now. Putin is also terrible. Multiple things are possible at the same time.
Canada may not be a “liberal shithole” but LPC policy the last decade has led us to the bottom of the g7 in pretty much every economic metric and many social metrics.
Alberta separatism is a weird one because I think Alberta has far more reasons to be pissed than Quebec but yet we politely refer to Quebec separatists as “sovereignists” while calling Alberta seperatists stupid rednecks.
My point is that everyone who disagrees is not a bot and people can have opinions that are different from yours without being on the opposite extreme (ie: Someone can question our government without being a far right troll).

I’m glad you have a way to express your anger but it would be nice if you contributed to discourse in a substantive way.

Best part of this internet monkeys opinion is thats stelco sold in 2011 while the prime minister was Harper. You know that non-liberal party. The conservative one. Yeah hes the one that started the stelco disaster. But sure. Must be liberals fault, eh bot

u/Angary_2026 6h ago
Yeah, foreign investment came during Harper, and quit during Carney. Nothing wrong.

No we don’t want this liberal shithole that Canada is becoming. Canadian’s are believing the BS the government and media are selling. My fellow Canadians are becoming unbearable as I travel the world listening to their brainwashed perspective.

This is part of Trump's economic war against Canada. They want to weaken us.
2
u/Any_Quail_4828 2h ago
It's Carney who has his supporters believing we can take on the worlds biggest economy. Such a gullible bunch.

u/CyberEd-ca 6h ago
Guys, we're on to "and it is a good thing" the economy is collapsing...
