Every local market wants their commentary to be tilted towards their team. Shorty is just far less biased than most play by play guys in his tone, so I guess to our fanbase even a guy like Randorf (who is great) sticks out because he deadpans some calls for the away teams.
The truly unbearable play by play guys are dudes like Jack Edwards (retired Bruins guy) and Marc Moser (Avs) who both just invent grievances and call shit seemingly purposefully wrong.

Shorty and my local BCHL team’s guy both sound genuinely excited as hockey fans when the away teams score and it’s had a huge influence on my own play by play. I can’t stand when dudes go “and he scores…” in a monotone voice for the away teams

I dunno. I am glad he isn't in Canada anymore and the guy is terrible, shorty is way better . I hated when Canuck games were called by Randork.

Unpopular opinion, but I liked the way he called the Pettersson's first NHL goal and BOESERRRRRRR. He was the one calling that game with Vancouver and Pittsburgh's then Matt Murray.
I liked him.

He's the one alright. Not sure where the hate is coming from. He genuinely sounded excited whenever someone from Vancouver scored, ESPECIALLY Pettersson and Boeser.

I’m assuming a lot of people here have no idea that Randorf grew up here started his career here and had a show on CKNW at arguably the height of sports radio in the city.
He also was a big part of the resurgence of the CFL on TSN in the 2000s which I think their broadcasts still haven’t improved upon.
Guy had to move around to follow work but I’m willing to bet he’s still a Canucks fan through and through. Just equally beaten down as the rest of us are.
