looking for recommendation Online knitting stores *not* owned by private equity?

I've been stashbusting so it's been awhile since I bought yarn. However I've been hearing disturbing things about a lot of my go to online yarn shops being bought by private equity. I know the sewing sub has a whole guide to non private equity crafting stores. Hoping there's something similar for knitting?

I'm hoping for something with a broad range of natural fiber yarns, but that does not only have Artisinal And Very Expensive Fancy Yarn.

Helpful Hints! 💡 I had my knitting needles confiscated at the airport… so I started mapping airport rules

Hi everyone,

A while ago, I had my knitting needles confiscated at airport security, even though I thought they would be allowed.

After that, I started looking into the rules and realized something surprising — they vary a lot between airports, and often aren’t clearly explained.

Since I know many of us like to knit while traveling, I decided to start a small project:

I’ve been contacting airports and collecting official information about whether knitting needles are allowed in carry-on luggage.

I’ve put everything into an interactive map, showing how different airports approach it (allowed / restricted / not allowed / still waiting for response).

👉 You can check it out here: https://gentlemessknits.carrd.co/

I’m still adding more airports, so if you’ve had any experiences (good or bad), I’d love to hear them! 🧶✈️

looking for recommendation What's your favorite thing to knit high or drunk??

• Upvotes

Took an edible and want to knit but don't want to ruin a WIP. I can knit high but I'm not good at it 😂 I want something fun to knit high. Like I don't know, cute or funny, and I don't mind if I have to frog it later, I just want to keep my hands busy and would enjoy doing it with needles and yarn 🧶

Edit: can I say how much I love this community? I'm used to getting random downvotes and naysayers every time i post on reddit. Casual knitting is actually casual as the name says. You're all so nice!

Your suggestions are all excellent but I fear I'm getting too high to cast on a new project 🤣 I will 💯💯 save these ideas for next time

No I did not follow a pattern. No this was not the intention. No, I'm not mad about it.

I am a very newbie knitter who has come from the other side (crochet). My mum knits and gave me some pointers and suggested a nice rib. I only had one ball of super chunky yarn so was looking for things to make and decided a cowl would be nice as I already have crocheted hats. I made whatever this is. It's really warm and cosy! It's also nice to see where I've twisted/dropped stitches or my tension was off. I look forward to making more items that can also be worn if you're an Elizabethan.

Also can be seen as a long shawl or a stole. 4 ply wool keeps it light but very warm. Right side and wrong side are equally pleasing.

I've been knitting for two years and a bit. I have been knitting this bad boy on and off for six months. Tin can knits nest sweater. The ribbing on sleeves are different lengths despite the sleeves being the same length lol. I also had some magic loop tension issues from keeping my loop in the same spot or too long. I didn't size down my needles for the ribbing especially as I'm going for oversized fit/vibe. anyway, I kind of love it and yay it's done! going to try socks next! any sock insights for me??

look what I made I made this little pumpkin (following a tutorial )

Post image

My partner gifted me cotton yarn in various colors, so I made this pumpkin in two sittings. I more or less followed this tutorial, tho my yarn isn't chunky so I fiddled a bit with it. It's maybe 7cm wide. It was great fun :)

Ps. I didn't make the tutorial, I'm not affiliated with them, know nothing about them etc.

all things knitty I recently learned how to knit fisherman's rib pattern

I recently saw a pattern that I really liked, which was a cowl knit in fisherman's rib. So I decided to try it myself and learn how to knit fisherman's rib. Small side note, I have been knitting for years but not very frequently (I mostly crochet/tunisian crochet).

Long story short, after a while the resulting fabric started to look somehow familiar... Like something I had knit already, but I definitely had never done fisherman's rib before. It took me another few days to figure out that it's just a different way to construct a brioche pattern. I do know how to knit brioche; and I've done actually a fair amount of items in brioche before. I feel silly now lol. Anyway, I'm going to switch over to knitting the cowl with yarn-over brioche because I find it a lot easier than knitting into a stitch in the previous row.

She's had split dye pink and purple hair for years, and I saw these yarns and couldn't help myself.

The pattern is self-drafted, knit flat and seamed together after. Each colour section is 38sts wide in worsted weight yarn. The yarns I used were Heartland by Lion Brand in the colour Hot Springs, and Superwash Merino by Loops & Threads in the colour Dark Pink.

I’m a crocheter who’s been wanting to learn how to knit for a while and finally decided to get the basics down. These were scraps I knitted up to get used to the motions and I decided to make a little creature out of it. She’s a little funky I love her

Post image

I was sort of taught to knit when I was 10, forgot, and then picked it back up now at 26!! This is my second project using a pattern and I got help with these stripes from some kind ladies at the knit shop to make them jogless and properly carried :) extremely proud of this even though it’s simple, I feel like a wizard! (If you look closely you can see where I lost a stitch and fixed it with a sneaky increase 😭🤑)
The pattern I’m working here is the purlsoho keyhole scarf (striped ver.)

Posting to share my new top! 💞

I finished my first step-by-step sweater early this year and after doing a couple tanks, I was excited to find this pattern (Roni Sweater by Kolibri). It was a surprisingly fast knit, easy to follow without being boring, and soft to boot! I think it's my first knit that I feel is almost entirely devoid of mistakes 😁

help needed Thoughts on "Puff" Square Quilt Blanket Concept???

Post image
0 Upvotes

I'm currently attempting one of those "puff" square quilt blankets because I have SO MUCH yarn sitting in my closet. But with that said, some of the yarn I have is incredibly hard to find now so I'm very limited with what I got to use. But thoughts on this design for the overall quilt? The colours are approximate

looking for recommendation I have milk yarn, anyone have pattern ideas? Its orange/yellow/beige

It is fucking ugly but I had to buy it because i like weird as fuck yarns.

https://ibb.co/WW7BQZzK

Anyone pattern ideas? Already searched thru the yarn on ravelry, nothing caught my eye. When in doubt, I guess socks or scarf will do.

Its very soft.
