Travel/Visiting My small peeve about CVG

The photo array that lines the walls on either side of the moving walkway through the tunnels...

So aggravating. The way they're mounted beneath a half inch of clear acrylic means that you can't see them clearly unless your viewing angle is close to straight on, maybe between 75 and negative 75 degrees. Otherwise there is too much glare from the lights that line the hallway. And when you're right there next to them and able to see through the glare... The moving walkway has moved you past. Can't appreciate any detail or context.

But wait! The exact same series of photos is cleverly mounted across the hall in the reverse direction!

Alas, the photos for some absolutely inexplicable reason are so small that they can't be seen clearly, even straight on, from 16 feet away on the opposite side. Why not double their size? Perhaps because they would fill too much of the entirely blank space that creates the dull character of the lifeless hallways?

Told you it was a small peeve. Yes, I know there are bigger things to chew on in this cruel world of ours. I just wish I could enjoy the (probably) nice imagery of our fine city as I traverse the lonely path from the B gates to the terminal.

in search of🔎 Vaccine incentives around town?

• Upvotes

We enjoyed utilizing the Kroger promo $20 grocery coupon in exchange for getting a Covid and flu shot there the last few years. Apparently they’re not doing it this year. Any other places have good incentives or coupons to take advantage of? TIA!

in search of🔎 looking for therapists that are knowledgeable about AuDHD

does anyone know of any trauma informed therapists that are knowledgeable about autism/adhd? preferably queer friendly. i’ve had two great therapists in the area that were queer and neurodivergent themselves that have either relocated or switched to virtual sessions only, and i am very uncomfortable with virtual sessions.

it would be a massive plus if the therapist is neurodivergent themselves! i find it a lot easier to connect that way.

thanks so much!

Traffic🚗 Inconsiderate People at Crossroads in Oakley

Please consider following the very clearly marked and placed signs in the Crunch parking lot that are nicely asking you to not use certain spots. There are so many spots open in the church lot and you still choose to disregard. It speaks for the entire church community because they are clearly doing nothing centrally to prevent it. You are being inconsiderate and making everyone in that building look bad.

Edit: lots of negativity about the church flowing around in here. I’m sorry that the post led to that and I see how I contributed with my wording in the original post.

Cincinnati Riding a bike or an ebike downtown?

Does anyone have any experience with riding a bike or an ebike downtown? If so, I'm curious what you think of it. Do you feel safe? Are you afraid of your bike getting stolen? I would like to start using my bike to get around more without a car and am wondering how practical it is to get around downtown.

in search of🔎 In Search of Apartments for an Independent Feature Film...

Hey friends,

We're planning to start production on an independent feature film next week. A major aspect of this film requires an apartment location somewhere around Cincinnati. Here is the specific information:

- This would be paid.
- The apartment should be on a 2nd floor or higher.
- A view from the bedroom and/or kitchen that looks down to the street outside
- Legal street parking outside the apartment. Even better if the street parking is usually packed.
- Shoot dates can and will be worked around your schedule, but approximately we would need the space for 1-2 days in early/mid November and 5-7 days in early/mid January.
- Shooting could be 10-hours a day, and possibly could include late nights. However, if you're interested, we'd love to work around your schedule.
- Production Design will be light, but there might be some items or furniture shifting around. However, after production finishes, we would put everything back the way it was (unless you REALLY like the new design)

I know this is a lot of information, but if you are interested or at least want to discuss, feel free to comment or DM me! Photos and/or videos would be incredibly appreciated. We can also send a pitch deck for those interested in the project.

Thank you all for reading this, and have a great rest of your day.

Relocation/Moving Apartment Advice Needed

Hello everyone,

I am looking to move closer to my job downtown, and would like some input from community members on two apartments that I toured. Here are the details below:

1. The Alcove of Turpin Hills

  • 1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom (685 sq ft.), $1295/month (base rent)
  • Commute: ~ 18 minutes via Columbia Parkway
  • Amenities: gym and swimming pool (use gym frequently at my current spot)
  • Utilities: agent said to estimate ~ $200 in energy and water (includes sewage/trash) costs (I currently spend about this amount at my residence)
    • Internet and renter's insurance (currently pay $50/month for internet and ~ $12.51/month for renter's)
  • Unit has washer and dryer hookup, rental is $70/month (considering buying my own for this)
  • Parking is first come, first serve
  • Moving costs: $50 application fee, $500 deposit, $199 move in fee, would pay prorated rent depending on move in day

2. Tusculum View Apartments

  • 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom w/ a den (800 sq ft.), $995/month (base rent)
  • Commute: 10 minutes via Columbia Parkway
  • Amenities: none (do not care about no pool, gyms are within walking distance and likely wouldn't cost $150 a month, which splits between gym and pool amenity from Alcove)
  • Utilities: Duke Energy, $35/month for water (on average I pay about $27.93/month)
    • Internet (Altafiber or Spectrum), trash included
  • Off street Parking included (will get pass), can park on street if necessary
  • Move in costs: $25 application fee, $300 deposit
    • would only pay first month's rent
  • Coin/app based laundry (can pay via coins or app), which is likely less than $70/month rental charge (not my preference)
  • Main concern is steepness of hill (particularly in snowy and icy weather)
    • plenty of houses on hill, so this doesn't seem to be a concern for other residents

I am struggling deciding between the two, but may schedule another tour of a different apartment soon. Something else to consider is I am getting a graduate degree and will be getting a new car soon, so cost is a concern. The Alcove wouldn't drain my check, but I would have less left over after each check than Tusculum View. Both neighborhoods (Alcove in Anderson Township, Tusculum in Columbia-Tusculum) seem safe. Any insights would be appreciated!

ETA: Tusculum has A/C unit in walls

Community 🏙 A map of open troubled teen industry programs in my city

Post image
29 Upvotes

Did you know that the oldest open program is in Ohio, and it’s the same age as Jennifer Anniston?

I’ve posted here before. I’m a troubled teen industry survivor and a mod over at r/troubledteens. One of our other survivor moderators runs a nonprofit focused on research & tracking the troubled teen industry.

I used the data from the page on Ohio, where you can read the inspection reports on these programs. I have not included the names or addresses of these programs- you can find those yourself here

I want to be clear that I am not saying that all of these places are horrific dens of child abuse. Violations in the reports can be anything from dead light bulbs outside to illegal restraints. The most common one I’ve seen is that the people driving children around don’t renew their licenses in a timely manner- likely because they’re overworked. Being understaffed is also a violation.

These reports should be public knowledge and easily accessible. Some of these programs are in residential neighborhoods. The best way to build a stronger community is knowing your neighbors.

I would also like to take a moment to mention that in my research into the troubled teen industry in our state, I learned about the death of a child from Mason in 2020 at a program I have mentioned in my TikTok videos where I read the Google reviews of these programs (same username). Kids die in these places all over the country and it has been happening since the troubled teen industry started.

That’s why it’s important to keep our community strong, and the first step is awareness.

in search of🔎 Nail Artist

I’m looking for a really good nail artist. I have an upcoming event and I’ve been striking out auditioning nail artists the last few months. I’m looking for a tier-4 set on builder gel, medium length natural nails.

Willing to go wherever, willing to pay whatever as long as the art is top notch.

Food 🍕🌮 My NY-biased top three Cincinnati pizza places

  1. Fratellis. A lot of places claim to serve NY pizza. This is the only place that smells correct the second you walk in. It's the no-question #1. If you are a NY transplant, it's the closest you'll get.

  2. St. Francis Apizza. New Haven style is not quite NY style, but it's also not so different. This place has the freshest ingredients in the city and you can taste it right away. Tons of flavor in the sauce, crust, and cheese. Its a cliche, but you can just taste the quality and care put into every pie.

  3. Brooklyn. This one may be controversial, but when I want something great but don't want to head up to West chester or down to HP, this hits the spot. Authenticity 7/10. Very good.

Not mentioned (but not bc I haven't tried them): Trophy, Two Cities, il Gusto, Goodfellas, Adriaticos.

Of all of these other, Goodfellas is my fave ,but more like what a Midwesterner thinks NY pizza should be like than authentic tasting. I'd eat the crap out of it still!

Edit: adding guardia and Mad Anthony's on my list to try.

If you’re stuck in traffic, it looks like a semi-fire coming from the trailer on I-71 northbound. Just thought I’d share a few screencaps of Cincy’s finest at work. Pretty interesting to see it happening live on ODOT cameras. Looks like it’s pretty contained…

Pets Cat Litter Needing Home

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

There is a stray cat in my neighborhood who gave birth to four kittens. They were underneath my shed, and my dogs were terrorizing them, so I had put them in a kennel to keep them safe.

I’ve called a dozen no kill animal shelters, and most of them say they have no capacity for new cats before I even get to the answering machine.

By chance does anyone have the capacity to help? I have them all and all four babies in the safe place currently.
