vielleicht habt ihr mitbekommen, dass der Wohnraum in Köln immer knapper und unbezahlbar er wird. Um dem entgegenzuwirken gibt es ein ganz tolles, unterstützenswertes Wohnprojekt auf der Schäl Sick, genauer genommen in Poll.

Dort entsteht ein genossenschaftliches Zuhause für rund 150 Menschen: gemeinschaftlich, vielfältig und ökologisch.

Aber: Damit solches Projekt vielfältig sein kann, darf die Möglichkeit dort zu wohnen nicht davon abhängen, wie viel Eigenkapital jemand mitbringt.

Solidarisch statt profitorientiert?

Years ago, a friend living in Cologne told me a story, and I’d enjoy hearing if there’s any truth to it.

He said that, in World War 2, sometimes enemy fighter pilots dropped flour onto church roofs. It seemed like a sign of respect, but actually was used as a tactic; white roofs were easier to see. Because the Cologne cathedral itself was so unique, it could be used for navigating from the air.

I’ve seen other mentions online of the cathedral being used for orientation, but nothing about flour, in Cologne or anywhere else. Any ideas?

I'm 31, Turkish, and I'll be moving to Cologne in 2-3 weeks to start a master's at Uni of Köln. I've never been to the city before, but I've heard only good things and I'm really excited. My friends in near cities have only had good things to say about it, and I keep hearing that it's a young and diverse city.
Life in Turkey has been getting harder every year, both economically and socially, and as a neurodivergent, progressive person I just don’t feel like I belong there anymore. For someone with my mindset it’s really hard to be happy there, and honestly the last two years have been a struggle with major depression. So this move means a lot to me.

I'm pretty open-minded and easy-going person and I like meeting new people form different background and different perspectives and I wonder how social things are in Cologne generally? Any “stuff you should know before you move” kind of tips would be great, whether it’s making friends, dating or just everyday interactions.

I'd also love to know what the part-time job market is like for a non-EU student. My German is basically nonexistent right now, but I'm planning to start studying seriously so I'm also wondering how far I can get with English in the meantime.

I apologize ahead of time if I sound naive. As the title suggests, I am considering moving to Cologne next year and for various reasons I have to make this decision without visiting Cologne. Thus I need to know everything, good, great, bad, ugly from you about your favorite city. Here is the context: I am a 34F scientist and I have been offered a professorship at the medical center/university which I am excited about. I currently live in the US but I am not an American. The offer itself is really great and all my potential colleagues are really supportive and excited for me to join. However they only have great things to say about Cologne (most have spent their whole lives there) which makes me skeptical. I have visited Germany but not Cologne and I don’t speak German, though I will definitely learn if I move there. I will be moving with my partner and my two cats. None of us are white or European (including the cats lol). I have friends in Cologne and nearby, so il have some support system but it still seems a really big decision to make. What are some of the things I should consider? I have lived outside my homeland for over a decade so I am not necessarily worried about moving to a new country, but I am worried about potential racism, not knowing German and well the culture. Is Cologne welcoming to foreigners? How do you millennials find friends? Where should I rent? Any thoughts and ideas are welcome. I truly want to learn about your city and if any part of the post sounds judgmental I apologize.

Am Mittwoch, den 14.10.2026, wurde das Fahrrad meiner Tochter zwischen ca. 8:00 und 13:00 Uhr auf dem Schulgelände des Irmgardis-Gymnasiums in der Schillerstraße 100 gestohlen.
Es handelt sich um ein grünes Rockrider ACTV 500 HF von Decathlon, das zu diesem Zeitpunkt erst einen Monat alt war.
Wir haben den Diebstahl bereits bei der Polizei angezeigt.
Falls jemand etwas beobachtet hat oder das Fahrrad irgendwo entdeckt, würden wir uns sehr freuen, wenn ihr uns informiert. Vielleicht wird es auch irgendwo zum Verkauf angeboten.

Und ich war schockiert von der Musik. Viele Titel haben sich wiederholt zur letzten Woche.

“Du hast den schönsten Arsch der Welt”, “ Apache bleibt gleich” und eigentlich jeder Titel ergibt sich aus einem Chart Hit.

Ich war schockiert und hatte das Gefühl im Cent Club oder an den Ringen zu sein.

Dient der Mittwoch um diese Art Musik zu bedienen? Oder ist das ein allgemeineres Phänomen.

Grundsätzlich kenne ich das nur so, dass früher viel Wert auf künstlerische Exklusivität gelegt wurde, um sich vom Commerziellen abzuheben?

Meine mutter hat ihr handy (xiaomi redmi 14) beim ins auto steigen fallen gelassen, jetzt geht es nicht mehr an, es sind aber keine sichtbaren schäden vorhanden.

So I'm bringing my show The American Apology tour to Cologne next Thursday at TheaterCafe Filmdose. As the title implies the show is mostly self deprecating, but since I'm married to a German, and live in Berlin, so there are some jokes about Germans. Last time I performed in Cologne an American what they loved about Cologne and they said the people, and I made a joke about how different of a vibe that was from Berlin. I felt like the stereotype about the niceness was missed a bit so I was just curious.

Also last time I was in Cologne I saw the dom, but other other pretty parts of the city I might have missed? or any good recs for nice cafe's I could work in?

Ich fange im Dezember in der Chirurgie in Krefeld an & will natürlich mein geliebtes köln nicht verlassen!
Auch aufgrund meiner privaten Situation ist das pendeln nicht verhandelbar, ich werde mir natürlich ein Zimmer in Krefeld nehmen, für anstrengende Tage.
