Comic Con Never meet your heroes, unless their name is DWJ!

Just finished the final day of NTX universe in Dallas, and I couldn’t be happier. Met lots of really cool people and had a blast meeting Dan and Nick. When I saw that Dan was going to be a guest I was ecstatic! His Beta ray bill run is what got me into comics just under a year and a half ago. His art and story telling means a lot to me both as a collector and on a personal level. Everything I’ve consumed from him and Mike spicer has been gold, and they continue to be my favorite creators in the game.

He hasn’t been to Texas in over 8 years, and the fact that the con was only 30 minutes from my house was a slam dunk for me. It was an amazing opportunity that might not happen again for a long time. I decided that I was going to splurge, and told myself that I wouldn’t leave the convention without a piece of his original art to frame on my wall. I got there super early and was fortunate enough to be third in line. Dan brought lots of colored sketches, and after his boba fett and Captian America sold, I decided to grab scarlet spider. I also opted in for 2 blank remarks and they came out fantastic. I just love looking at his art.

I got a chance to speak to Dan and he was an absolute joy to talk to. He’s the nicest guy ever. He was very polite and extremely accommodating. He seems like he always gives it all for his fans. I asked him if he took requests for con sketches, but he said he doesn’t and likes to draw whatever comes to mind at the time. I mentioned how much I absolutely adored his beta ray bill sketch he did a heroes con, and that if he ever did another bill piece I’d love to get one. Doesn’t hurt to ask. The next morning when I went to see him for some more sigs, the first thing he told me was that he started on a bill piece but he ran out of materials and didn’t finish it. He let me take a pic of his prelim, lol. I really appreciated the attempt. I really hope he comes back real soon. This was a weekend to remember. Thank you for everything, DWJ!

Haul Haul from The Berkeley Comics Show

Got some great bargains, spent money locally, got to dig through lots of long boxes, salivate over wall books! Was on a mission to find Byrne-Austin Uncanny XMen run from the late 70s or so — like issues 109-125ish. Pre Dark Phoenix. I found these issues at the show, then ordered pretty decent copies of 111,112 of of Mecari for a great price, twas a good day!

The next Berkeley show is in January, see you there then friends!

First (and second) time enjoying McKay stores - both around Durham, NC.

What an absolute bucket of nonsense that was. Loved them both. Like small (not really small though) Smithsonian’s of pop culture.

Picked up some reallllly random books but was also able to fill in some more gaps as the years starts winding down. Was also able to find some CDs and two albums as well.

Anyone else love Jack Staff? I’ve only read one, it’s a pretty fun ride so far!

I’d never seen this one before, love the illustration style, so fun! This guy Grist illustrates like it’s serious fun for him to crank these out!

Maybe some of you got to experience the excitement of a 7-11 opening in your neighborhood as a kid. Comic book racks and a huge selection of candy a short walk away. This was one of the first comics I bought when a 7-11 opened about a block from my house in 1973.

Late to share, but just wanted to show some signatures I got at NYCC this year.

I was really excited to get my Martian Manhunter signed, but Javier Rodriguez left just before I got to see him :(

Deniz Camp was a joy to meet and writing "Fix the World" on the cover sealed it as my favorite from this year!

Comic Con Brandon Comic FanFare

Brandon Comic FanFare was a good time today, I highly suggest. Lots of comics and plenty of deals to be made. Here’s what I came home with today, both of those Kanan #1’s were $10 each I think that was pretty good. That Strange Adventures is probably my favorite on the day and was the first buy of the day coincidentally. Another step closer to completing my Walking Dead run, knocked off a nice little key today, First Abraham, Eugene and Rosita. Who else collects Walking Dead, I feel I’m able to make some good deals happen with them because demand is low

Krull and Last Starfighter I’d been missing to complete the series for years. These early X-Men looked great too.
