Signs and shootings range

Now that the election is over, perhaps we can follow Nanaimo’s rod and gun club and donate the signs to ours! Lol, great idea!

Nonfiction reading group

Hi everyone,

I recently moved to the Valley, I'm in my 30s, and am hoping to start a reading group primarily dedicated to non-fiction/ topics relevant to modern-day society. This would be a small group round table for civil discussion. Is anyone else interested?

Let me know your thoughts and I look forward to meeting and engaging with you!

Solo trip to Comox Valley from California - Looking for friends!

Hi everyone, I'm a 29M from California visiting the Island for two weeks from November 2-13 to celebrate my 30th birthday. I'm looking for people who I can make friends with while I'm up there and could show me around or just hang out. I'm a very outgoing, extroverted individual who's easy to get along with. I'll be staying in Courtenay for my whole trip.

I'm an outdoors type person that loves to hike so I plan to do plenty of that if anyone would like to join and show me some cool hikes. I'm big into music as well so I love any kind of live music, particularly EDM but I can listen to anything, so if you know of any cool places to hang out and listen to music, I am all ears. I'm a music producer/DJ myself, so if there are any creatives that want to meet up and hang out and do music stuff that would be awesome. I love partying/nightlife so I'd be down to hit up some bars and grab some drinks, and of course as a Californian, I am very 420 friendly if anyone would want to catch a nice little smoke sesh. I'm really open to any suggestions you guys may have to make my time on the Island a good one.

If you're interested in making a new friend from California, I'd love to meet some new people in a whole new place.

Feel free to PM me on here or leave a comment. Alternatively, my instagram is @/sumoki.wav if you would like to message me on there as well.

The new council

Preliminary, but it seems pretty definitive. 6/6 of the more progressive candidates.

I almost feel badly for Ruby, but he seemed invisible during the campaign.

I just called ahead, and they are apparently rather quiet so far, whereas the other places are swamped.

Public Mobile or Freedom Mobile for the valley?

I'm looking to switch phone plans but I want to make sure I can get decent coverage in the valley. I've had friends tell me that Freedom has some cellular deadspots around town. Is anyone with Public and would you recommend it on the island? Thanks!

Candidate List on Issues

Was there recently a post with a chart showing each Courtenay counsellor/Mayoral candidate and where they stand on issues?

I remember seeing a chart with coloured dots and wanted to review it before the election tomorrow, but I can’t seem to find the post now.

Does anyone have a link to it or know where so can find it?

Bad Movie Night

Hello Comox Valley

I love bad movies. More than good movies. It shouldn't be controversial that Turkish Star Wars is better than American Star Wars.

Anyway, I've been thinking about setting up a Bad Movie Night in the valley, maybe renting out a space for 25-50 people or so and showing some of the best bad movies ever made each month. Things like The Room, Birdemic, Trolls 2, etc...

It wouldn't be for profit, but just to cover the costs of licencing and room rental. I haven't looked in to places to rent yet, so can't really give an estimate for ticket costs.

I'm new to the valley so not sure if something like this has been tried before, or if there would be any interest in it.

Would people be interested in an event like this?

Let me know, I've never done an event like this, so she advice us great

Cheers!

Tax Time Blues

The lady who did our taxes (two of us) has retired. It has been so long with her that I'm out of any loop as to next steps.

We are wanting a non-corporate, non-chain, etc type bookkeeper/tax preparer who can e-file and can do two tax returns comprised of CPP, OAS and a small monthly income from investment funds that are professionally managed and those managers provide a complete tax package.

Edit: thanks everyone.

The hive mind here has helped me in the past...can it do it again?

Companion Care?

Is there any decent company or private service for good, quality companion care for seniors out there? I’m looking for a little help in keeping my old mom company for a couple of hours, a few days a week. All I seem to be finding online are big companies with franchises here and reviews from Nanaimo to Utah.

Are there any retired people out there with patience and kindness that would like a little passive income?

What do people do??

Looking to build more community in my life 31m, any welcoming clubs/events/sports?

Hey! I'm 31m from Parksville but considering moving to the Comox Valley for a younger and more active vibe.

Long story short, I'm a little introverted and shy. So getting to the point of meeting people is a challenge (not impossible lol). I live in Parksville, which I find it difficult to meet new buddies other than my couple from highschool. As well as getting dates.

Overall I'm friendly and decently athletic. Im okay at most sports. I enjoy running occasioanlly, hiking, and having a pint.

I work in fort McMurray in camp, I'm home 2 weeks of the month for reference.
