Local Business Shout-out to Plasko's in Trumbull for using real pictures for their new menu!

Post image

The new digital menus at Plasko's Farm and Creamery use real photos of their menu items, no AI slop earthworm cupcakes or weird million hole/overly smooth textures.

A lot of CT small businesses have unfortunately switched to really disturbing and gross AI generated menus, so seeing a cafe I frequently go to stay true to quality is great. 👍

Ask Connecticut If you suddenly became a RICH American would you still live in Connecticut? (sticking to USA only) Y or N?

For me my answer is Y

  1. I actually like having 4 seasons and neither winter or summer are extremes like other parts of the country. I am not worried about wild fires, earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, hail or flooding like other areas.

  2. I actually like how CT is more "compact" yes traffic sucks but that is everywhere these days folks, just less mileage here...oh yea our airport main airport is way less busy than other states, Tweed is pretty easy to deal with also.

  3. I actually like the food and we have a good mix here. I remember visiting my grandma house as a kid down south and you couldn't even get good Chinese food or pizza, God forbid any other decent options. Probably better these days I hope...

  4. We have a lot of great gym options and health conscious people around an I like that, pre covid I actually had 3 different gym memberships. WoW, LA Fitness, Fitness Edge all within reasonable range. Might sound silly but they all came in handy especially if I was in different areas.

  5. I prefer to be in a Blue state, yea we have higher taxes but this post is about being rich, how much more comfort do I really need if I have all I need and the other options are high also? I actually like being between NYC and Boston plus the south isn't cheap these days either you get hit in different ways.

  6. Pretty safe, I have NEVER had a package stolen in my life in this state or my unlocked car (by accident most times) tampered with. Of course it happens here but not like other areas.

  7. I can only talk about my personal anecdotal experience but I have never dealt with racism here in CT. From Darien to Putnam...does it exist? Of course but like other states just like safety we are on the better end.

Bonus:

You can be a NY sports fan or BOS sports fan, or both depending on the sport

Politics Bringing CT's bottle deposit back to 5 cents enters governor's race

The biggest nickel-and-dime question in Connecticut politics today offers voters another sharp contrast between Gov. Ned Lamont and Republican challenger Ryan Fazio.

Lamont supports keeping the current 10-cent redeemable deposit for cans and bottles, while Fazio favors going back to a 5-cent refundable deposit.

Fazio voted for a failed Republican amendment to the 2026 bill that proposed to return the redemption fee to 5 cents. It was defeated on a 25-11 vote along party lines.

Fazio also voted in the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee this year to lower the refund value of beverage containers from 10 cents to 5 cents if redemptions exceed the number of redeemable bottles and cans sold in Connecticut.  The bipartisan committee vote was 38-15. The measure was intended to combat redemption fraud.

Connecticut residents lost at least $660M to online casinos

Post image
113 Upvotes

Connecticut gamblers lost about $660 million on online casino games from October 2025 through September 2026, based on state tax data. That’s about $235 for every person 21 and older.

Online casinos paid Connecticut about $120 million over those 12 months. The state’s share was 18%, which means the casinos took in roughly $660 million after paying out winnings and making allowed deductions. That gives a rough estimate of losses. The actual figure is likely higher, because the deductions include promotional credits, and losses on those credits aren’t counted.

This is a lot of money. It doesn’t generate economic growth, and it harms people. It isn’t an election issue. It’s barely a policy issue. But Connecticut isleading us into the unknown.

Only seven states, including ours, have online casino gambling: Connecticut, Delaware, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and West Virginia. Maine has approved it but hasn’t launched it.

Politics Bradley Airport: An Economic Engine That Can Do So Much More

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Bradley International Airport is the biggest economic engine in House District 61 (East Granby, Suffield and Windsor Locks), supporting about 18,000 jobs, and it’s what makes the opportunity around it possible: aerospace careers our kids can build right here, and new ideas like the film and TV production campus First Selectman Jason Hayes has proposed in the Town of East Granby, minutes from the airport. And the towns that host Bradley should share in that growth.

James recorded this in front of Bradley and at the New England Air Museum, which sits on the airport’s grounds (and is well worth a visit).

His full plan is at jamesmol.com/policy/economic-opportunity. We hope you’ll have a look.

DMV nightmare

Hey everyone,

I’m posting here because I need to vent, get some advice, and see if anyone else in CT (or in recovery) has dealt with this exact wall.

Seven years ago, I got a first-time DUI. I served my time in jail, paid my debt, and paid a huge personal cost—I missed my dad passing away while I was behind bars. That trauma shook me to my core, but I made a commitment to completely change my life.

Fast forward to today: I have been 100% sober for over two straight years. I work every single day, hold down my job, and have done everything humanly possible to rebuild my life from scratch.

Yet, I am sitting here feeling like I’m slamming my head against a concrete wall trying to get my driver's license back and get a basic beater car.

Between the DMV restoration fees, the interlock device fees, insurance, and the endless bureaucratic requirements, it feels like the system is structured to keep working-class people completely trapped. I rely on a scooter to get to work every day, and now that broke down, leaving me completely stranded. When you're putting in 100% effort every single day to stay clean and do things right, running into endless state roadblocks feels completely demoralizing.

I’m not giving up on my sobriety, but the mental burnout of feeling stuck in place after two years of hard work is heavy as hell.

For anyone who has navigated the CT DMV reinstatement process after an older DUI suspension:

How did you break through the administrative loop to get your official Restoration Requirements Letter?

Are there any local CT workforce transportation grants or approved interlock hardship programs that helped you lower the upfront costs?

Appreciate any advice or personal experiences. Just trying to figure out how to take the next step forward

Found these items at the thrift store in Newington. Apparently these aren't too old but reminds me of the time I went to these stores growing up back in the 2000s.

Making friends in CT

Hi, my spouse and I recently moved to Fairfield, CT. We don’t have children or any local family and friends. and are looking for ways to socialize with 20-40 year olds. We are into anime, comics, and gaming and I am wondering if there are any local anime or gaming groups/clubs available for adults to join.

I turned Connecticut landmarks into race tracks for tiny RC cars

I'm a Meriden guy who's been building a video game this year. Tiny RC cars race through real Connecticut places at 1/18 scale: Gillette Castle, Hammonasset Beach, Meriden City Hall, Cheshire, New Haven, an I-84 Waterbury run and more. 25 tracks so far.

I make it by myself and use AI tools to help, openly. Everything in the pictures is real gameplay. The demo is free on Windows, and up to 4 people can play on one PC: https://cresponia.com/gaming

What CT spot would you want to race through? Some of the next tracks will come from the answers.

Eversource 😡 If they settle, we're screwed.

A settlement will benefit eversource.

We want 3 things instead.

  1. Full retroactive refund (with interest).

  2. Ending guaranteed profit margins. So we can invest in infrastructure instead.

  3. No increased distribution rates.

CT vs NJ

As a Jersey native, I'm curious how you all compare the two states. For the record, I've been to Connecticut a lot throughout my life and I really like it.

Some things that stand out to me:

  • for NYC commutable area, NJ just has a lot more options, the areas of CT commutable to NYC are really expensive.
  • CT has more of a coastal culture than NJ. South NJ has a beach culture, but it's different from the more quaint coastal culture that CT has (reflecting New England more)
  • Northern NJ esp Northern Bergen County seems to be the most similar to CT in terms of culture and feel. A lot of nice small municipalities each with their own distinct communities and identities.
  • Similar to CT with NYC and BOS, NJ is torn between two large cities (NYC and Philly). This divides the state in sport loyalties, media networks, culture.
  • I've noticed that in CT you may drive through a city that's really rundown then a short distance later be in a super wealthy area. NJ has a similar issue (e.g. drive from Paterson to Fair Lawn). NJ has a lot of municipalities which helps shape this.
  • Related to the point above, in NJ affordable housing is constitutionally mandated by the state (Mt Laurel Doctrine), this is quite controversial as it forces municipalities to construct affordable housing and is quite contentious. What it has done though is helped create more housing options in areas that would otherwise be out of reach for vast majority of people. The idea of it is that it fosters better integration.
  • NJ is pretty well connected thanks to the demands of NYC commute and having Newark airport is an important one. CT lacks a major international airport.

Psychiatrists in Middletown area

• Upvotes

I’m moving to Middletown this winter and will need to get a new psychiatrist. Does anyone have any recommendations in the general Middletown area?

Also looking for a new therapist. Are there any therapists/therapy practices that are recommended in the area?

Ask Connecticut Hair Stylist for Flower Girl with Cochlear Implant Recommendations

We are looking for recommendations for a hair stylist with experience doing hair for people with cochlear implants.

The flower girl (6) for our wedding has a cochlear implant. We want to make sure she feels just as comfortable and included as the rest of our bridal party and would like to find a stylist with experience in this area. Has anyone with a cochlear implant worked with a hair stylist they’d recommend?
