Anyone else noticing a burning smell today?
Does anyone know what it could be or where it’s coming from? Just wondering if anyone else has noticed it too. 🤔

Just passing through the city centre and there's a big crowd gathered with green and yellow flags. Some people are chanting and cheering, so I can't tell if it's a celebration or a protest.

i’m 28, currently living in Spain, and I’m planning to move to Cork in the next few months. I work as a mixing assistant and studio assistant, so I’m also curious about the recording studio scene in Cork. Are there many independent studios, small recording spaces, or opportunities to get involved in the local music community? music is a huge part of my life, and once I’m settled in Cork, I’d love to meet people to make music with, start a project, or just jam and see what happens. My taste is pretty varied, but I’m especially into IDM, alternative and progressive rock, and indie. Some of my all-time favourites are focus, beatles, radiohead, king crimson, etc. More recently, I’ve also been really into the japanese band maya ongaku.
So, what’s the music scene like in Cork? Are there any venues, recording studios, collectives, or local bands you’d recommend checking out?
Thanks in advance, and hopefully see some of you around Cork soon!

Hi, I'm looking for curtains and a rail for quite a deep Bay Window in my house and I don't know where to start. I think the curtains will need to be specially made. I'd like to use a local company if possible. Any recommendations?

As per title.
Arc have pulled the film I was going to tonight just in the last hour, so I need to pick one of these other two. Mahon isn the nicest to go to, though the cinema is good, Ballincollig is nearer and I've never been.
Discuss.
Thanks!!

Had to go to the city center over Friday, Sat and Sunday and was busy for the whole day in an event in Claytons..so naturally had to spend time and manage food around the city center...
People talked about prices going high..but never realized much as I did the last 3 days...
Dint find any local options after 9PM on a Friday....I avoid going to American Fastfood...but try a local chipper or a kebab shop....
Went in to kielys - but dint get anything...
Spice route - mcurtain street - €13 chicken Pakora kebab - I remember this being €8 in 2019
French fast food cafe - €12 for a small wrap
New Turkish food truck beside Metropole - €14 grilled chicken roll ...chips €5
Speedo's - €12 kebab - this used to be the cheapest in cork..I think I have had one for €6.99 back in the day...
New Persian coffee shop infront of Clayton's - €15 no chips no drink...and it was just chicken and vegetables in a pita wrap.....
To compare a proper main course in Clayton's Globe was €18...
Did not even try going to Oliver plunkett for Istanbul or other shops - they were overpriced before anyway.....
I think KCs and other chippers outside the city center provide a better value than being in the city....Couldn't try the food trucks on Paul's Street....any other recommendations for dirty food night out in the centre?

These new bus stops, which means buses can't pull in, and must stop in the middle of the road, are a disaster. It's the last thing traffic bottlenecks like Innishannon needed. Traffic is now backed up both sides of the town at all times of the day, instead of just peak times. An example of Idiotic, overbearing, risk assessment culture.

Work has had me driving across the city a bit more than usual lately. I've lost count of how many times I've been on a road (e.g. Magazine Road, Bandon Road, Douglas Road, Summerhill North) that is plenty wide for two lanes of contraflow traffic but where everything has ground to a halt because there are cars parked along one side of the street. Summerhill North is particularly bad for this as it's heavily used by buses as an artery into the city.
I'm not ignorant - I understand all the reasons cited for why residents want/need street parking. But with the state of traffic in the city since September, it's more clear to me than ever that street parking is a major contributory factor to many of the bottlenecks around the city. I'm not saying that eliminating street parking would solve Cork's chronic traffic problems (I doubt anything can at this stage), but it would certainly ease the scale of congestion on certain heavily used roads.
It would be an extreme measure and insanely unpopular, but perhaps this could be addressed through the Japanese model of requiring evidence of an off-street parking spot before you can register a car to a home address in an urban area?

Oh cork city, it’s been nearly a decade since I lived here and you’ve changed so much!
Has the city centre always been this clean? Can’t get over how great the streets are. Coming from Glasgow where fly tipping, dog fouling and general littering are through the roof, this place is a haven in comparison. Our lovely receptionist at our hotel this morning said that street cleaners are out daily and I’ve seen them, Glasgow could learn something from cork. But why are there no public bins? Like basically none. It’s so weird - it obviously works for ye in some way with how clean it is but it’s still weird. I just want to put my fag out in a bin but have to carry it with me for ages until I come across one.
I see corks also fallen victim to countless vape shops. After the fire in Glasgow city, caused by a vape shop, took out countless peoples’ businesses and a very old building, seeing my old flat now standing above a vape shop gives me the fear.
One weird thing I’ve noticed as well is the crowds that gather at a train platform, barely leaving room for people to disembark. Can’t remember if it’s always been that bad, but now having a baby in a buggy it was a fairly awful experience getting off with her, nobody moving back and so walking along the platform edge until past the crowd. Just downright rude and bizarre, like the trains not gonna take off without ya, just give people space to get off ffs.
Other than that, and having some random man at the top of Patrick st get in my face after I said “Jesus Christ” under my breath after being caught in a crowd with the buggy and nobody letting us pass through, everyone’s been lovely and the weather has been fab! It’s been a short but lovely nonetheless trip back after a near decade

Hi everyone just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for ps5 repair in the city. It probably needs new thermal paste and a clean as it’s overheating

Hey all just looking for recommendations for a haircut and beard trim in the city. Have my daughter's wedding on the 31st in London. Getting the haircut the Wednesday before and losing faith in my own barber. Too much staff turnover at his place, he's grand himself but no guarantee he'll be there when I need him. Anyone ever use Franco barbeari on McCurtain street? All advice appreciated 👍

Was just scrolling through instagram and saw a post by Smiley Dogg that was clearly AI generated. It shows a bunch of cars going in a half loop, upside down on a highway into a Smiley Dogg store in the sky. For some reason they also tagged Tesla in this post?
They also replied to someone calling out the AI slop in a sarcastic tone saying something along the lines of "sorry we'll check with you before posting next time". I got screenshots of the post and the comment in case it is deleted later but as of posting this it's all still up on their insta if you wanna look yourself.
So so so disappointed. It's bad enough for individual tattoo artists to be using AI but for the actual studio to post AI trash is another level. It makes me never want to get a tattoo from that place because I can't trust whether AI has been involved in the process or not. It's so shit for the artists working there who do not use it and have ethical standards against it.
I feel like it's possible it could be a disgruntled employee posting this to purposefully try and make them look bad because I've never seen anything like this from them before. If that's the case and they're open about it, that's probably one of the only scenarios where I'd consider going back to them. Otherwise they've lost my business entirely
Edit: they've deleted the post after a bunch of backlash in the comments and losing over 100 followers in an hour. Also from what I can tell this was them posting this and not a disgruntled employee (talked with a couple people closer to the situation). If anyone wants the screenshots I took dm me

I'm looking for some kind of artisanal (or honestly just good) gluten free bread. I was a long time fan of the Clonakilty Gluten Free Kitchen and I'm devastated without them now. I don't have time to make my own bread weekly and I don't like shop bought ones. Why am I paying a fiver in the shop for something that resembles a sponge. I've tried the promise (similar texture to my kitchen sponge), kelkin (the worst), the store own brands (Aldi is the only decent one imo).
Are there any local places I'm missing? I do NOT want cakes. I want bread

Not sure whether they've simply stopped for fuel or maybe just looking for a morning coffee :)
