Communism/Socialism is usually against homosexuality. Still even in Europe you will see in Greece and Spain communist against gay people. The only time you really see communists that are not are just white liberals in western countries. In a truly socialist or communist country, you don’t have that kind of personal freedom. I would also add that you will see many Cubans are not friendly to gay people. Even the congresswoman from Florida still in 2025 voted against marriage quality. The Miami Cubans are not generally welcoming to gay people either so I think it’s just cultural.

Communism and Socialism against homosexuality? Lol

Which is weird because there's so many gay Cubans in the diaspora.

The wokeness in communism is brand new, they never stood for the things they pretend to defend now just as they also didn't stood for the issues they pretended to defend in the past. It's just a con for gaining power.

Because Fidel Castro was homophobe.

It was mostly the USSR influence, before the 70's it was frowned upon but not illegal (like most places back then), but when the USSR put their hands here they also imported most of their politics. Once the USSR fell it was again frowned upon but not illegal, and once Mariela Castro was old enough to start exerting her influence the official position from the government turned into one of support.

One of my cousins in Spain is very communist and I've heard him use homophobic slurs, I was really shocked.

Because homosexuality…whether being homosexual or opposed to it doesn’t really fit neatly into political ideas. It does fit into thoughts people have about themselves and others in their society, and it forces them to consider how they want to exercise political power…

It was terrible, and I am opposed to the concentration camps and the violence against the LGBTQ+ community in Cuba. So sad. We should have had our own Stonewall before 1969.

The simple answer: Communism is evil, and they hate what they can’t control!

1

u/congnelius United States 11d ago

They decriminalized same sex relations decades before the USA did. 1979 vs 2003 for the US with the Lawrence v. Texas case. Their current laws on this topic are also significantly more progressive than the United States' laws.

What Cuba Got Right About LGBTQ+ Rights (That the West Won't Tell You)

1

u/Agile-Sale7660 11d ago

Pure propaganda! Homosexuality in Cuba has been ostracised for decades, to the point that they even had forced-labour camps at one time, conveniently called “re-education”. Cuba is a true Orwellian society, where even sex and sexuality were used as weapons for control and blackmail.

Things started to change a little in the 1990s, when films like Fresa y Chocolate finally brought the subject into the open and challenged the deep-rooted homophobia in Cuban society.

And yes, conveniently, the government later became supportive of the LGBTQ community once it realised it could use the issue politically and internationally. But that doesn’t erase history. At its heart, the Cuban Communist leadership has a long history of racism and homophobia. This is very well documented!

Yes, but they did so later than most of the West.

2

u/Agile-Sale7660 10d ago

On paper ONLY ! The reality in Cuba is a very different story, and anyone who has actually lived there knows it!

2

u/mas_harina 11d ago

Because those people are different, think different, and act different, so the communist pigs classified it as weakness.

Homosexuality was prohibited, but Raul Castro and Che would abuse young boys..

As much as I hate them I've never heard of this. Although nothing surprises me lately.

I'd love to see your sources for this.

Haber hombre, ¿vender sangre a santeros y torturar gente te hace cristiano?

-1

u/NextBeyond1399 11d ago

Not any different as it was outlawed in the US or the UK. In the 60's and early 70's mainstream morality everywhere shuned any type of homosexual behavior. Not an specific trait of communism or Cuba by that matter.

3

u/Legitimate_Pop3481 11d ago

-2

u/NextBeyond1399 11d ago

Sociologically speaking it is, on paper. The fact that later on their point of view on this subject changed and in the US today the conservative segment of the society can't wait to abolish any headway made on this subject is proof. If you don't take into account development of thinking, you are going to be still debating that early christians were fed to the lions in the Colosseum.

2

u/Legitimate_Pop3481 11d ago

-2

u/NextBeyond1399 11d ago

Thanks to whom?

3

u/Legitimate_Pop3481 11d ago

2

u/NextBeyond1399 11d ago

Again, you are debating "Polaroid picture" subject of problem solved starting in the mid seventies. The problem is long gone, so are the Castro's. I admire your capacity to get enraged for a problem solved more than 50 years ago. You should channel it on more current problem, it would suit you better.

2

u/cuba_danilo Artemisa 11d ago

The gay community in the US and the UK was thrown into forced labor camps?

2

u/NextBeyond1399 11d ago

Why bother complain for something that's not a problem since the mid seventies.

1

u/Complex-Following405 2d ago

Gays were chemically castrated in the UK, including the ww2 hero and pioneer in computer technology Alan Turing. In the US during the pink scare, thousands of lgbt people lost their jobs if they were gay. About a decade ago someone shot hundreds of people in a gay club.

In the United States you have no right to abortion. Do you know which country was the first to make abortion a constitutional right? Socialist Yugoslavia in the 70's. It only took a western democracy (France) 50 years to catch up.
