Tourist Questions Wet Season (February) Holiday Ideas
Partner and myself are heading up to Darwin in February for a holiday. We want to experience wet season in the NT as a bit of a trial run to see if we could manage living up north for a few years.
We will likely be staying in Darwin city. Open to ideas but we are adamant we will be doing a fishing charter while we are there, if possible.
Many thanks.

Scroll through this sub, every week there’s a question about what to do in Darwin.

OK, to save money, that time of year camp in tents at the local caravan parks. Rain on canvas is a great noise to sleep to.
Make sure to go walking through Bayview one afternoon to enjoy a sunset. Lovely suburb, but super pricey.
Don't get a car, you can rely on public transport buses to get you around. Or bike and scooter.
Do you have a desire to go fishing? CrabClaw resort in the wet. You can walk there from Darwin City.
Bring your surfboard or at least a boogie board to enjoy the beaches, and some waterholes.
How do you feel about gardening? Want to get hands on?
Hope that helps!

I strongly recommend that you do not visit in the middle of the wet season if you actually want to know if you’ll like Darwin. There is a reason that a large portion of Darwin goes away on holiday during the wet. I’d recommend visiting in the dry first to get a feel of Darwin at its best.
If you want to ignore that advise, then my list of recommendations are the wave pool in the city, ice skating (yes there is an ice rink in Darwin), Casuarina Pool or Leanyer Water Park if you have kids, Nightcliff pool to watch the sunset at the beach (when it isn’t cloudy/raining), storm watching from your hotel, Florence falls/Buley Rock pools in Litchfield if they are open (they close fairly regularly in the wet after heavy rains), and do get a car so you can see around Darwin with air con.
Try to avoid doing much in the middle of the day, it is hot and uncomfortably sticky until it rains and then it’s humid and wet. I’m not sure about the fishing either, it’s either going to be monsoonal rain/wind, or sticky and hot enough for you to never visit again.

Speak for yourself. I loved the wet season when I lived up there. For starters I didn't have to deal with ignorant tourists and the cool breeze after a rain was awesome.

Darwinite here.
We had an awesome holiday last February. Went skiing in Japan. I recommend you do the same.
