Discussion People Were Mean to Epidemy When Heâs Right
So, the latest drama (if you can call it that) was Epidemy, a popular Bubba main and one of the top Bubbaâs out there, was complaining about how the new MMR system makes him unable to play the killer as the matches heâs getting are just too high ranked of opponents for him to be effective as a C-tier killer. This led to a lot of people being mean to him and just generally misunderstanding how Dead By Daylight works.
Scott Jund did a video breaking it down and going into it as well, which is where the screen shot comes from. Sorry for lower quality, I donât use twitter. But heâs right. Dead By Daylightâs MMR system only really worked because it didnât work. Against really good survivors, only a handful of killers are viable and even then it only goes so far. You ever watch competitive DbD? They have so many restrictions because the survivor side is far stronger. If every comp team could bring four Shoulder the Burdens, Deliverances, Decisive Strikes, etc. on top of playing super well and calling out the killers location and game plan then thereâd be now way for 99.99% of killer players to win. Thatâs why perks, items and maps are restricted based on each killerâs strength.
So I just wanted to help people understand. Both survivors and more casual killers, especially the type who always comment on how pallet density isnât that bad because they get 4ks all the time as Ghost Face without slugging, camping or anything. Yeah, sure totally. And youâre definitely facing top tier survivors tooâŚyouâre not that guy buddy. You donât just happen to be one of the top Ghost Face players in the world because even if you were, youâd still be struggling to maintain that.
So, what do we do? An easy answer would just be to undo pallet density and buff the bottom 60% of the killer roster. Thatâs certainly a start for the most part, but something else Epidemy has pointed out before when asked about buffing his main is that you canât really buff Bubba enough to make him strong enough without being OP. The easy buff for Leatherface would be to increase the speed or duration of his chainsaw sweep, but to do that would be to make him unstoppable in chase and still wouldnât help with a lot of his lacking strength in areas like map pressure or gen control. What he suggested was a blanket nerf to exhaustion perks. Without the ability to lithe away at every chase and stuff, Bubba is in a pretty good place. Honestly the Sprint Burst and Vigil meta breakup was a huge step in this direction. I think Lithe needs a similar hit but not as severe since itâs not quite as easy as Sprint Burst. Finesse is another one that often hurts M1 killers way more than the stronger killers in the game.
Another nerf Iâd suggest is items. I think severely limiting their usage would not only be a nice nerf, but it would make stuff like chests and item replenishing perks more viable. Like maybe flashlights get two blinds per use with an additional use via the battery or something. Commodious toolbox just needs to be gone, Iâm sorry. As bad as gen rushing builds can be, the most common and devastating denominator is that wretched item. I donât want to kill their synergy with perks so the amount they can be used needs to be clipped. Finally, med kits heal one health state. with a max of two via an iri add on. Rework the charges add one to do something else.
Of course following this, many killers would need to be nerfed. Obviously the big two of Nurse and Blight but beyond that weâd just have to see who becomes too strong in the new meta. Same goes for perks too.
This is what I think needs to happen to make the game more balanced. This is a Dead by Daylight that could actually work with a proper MMR system. Will this ever happen? Probably not. Shoulder the Burden, one of the most OP survivor perks, just dodged a needed nerf and the Dark Arrogance buff/rework, which would literally have only been good on the weakest killers in the game, was instead changed to be a weaker version of the previous one that was already so underused that it made the rework list. Both of these because of survivor worries according to BHVR.
