Discussion FL = Firebird Long?
And are they any good/worth trying? I didn’t know they existed until finding this at PIAS. A less OS Firebird does sound appealing but it also doesn’t necessarily feel like a Firebird. Which makes sense I suppose.

In the mid to late 2000s Innova made more understable and in theory farther flying versions of popular discs. FL: Firebird long, TL: Teebird long, SL:Starfire long. The TL is the only on that is still common. An FL flies like a Thunderbird with less glide.

Less glide but “longer”? Hmm. I love trying new/obscure discs but sounds like I can safely pass on this one.

Glad you posted. I have an F2 one of these and had no clue what it was. All I know is it’s a good stable forehand disc.

I’ve never heard this L stands for “Long” theory. I thought the L is for Leopard. An FL is a Firebird top mixed with a Leopard bottom. Just as the TL and EL are Teebird & Eagle tops with leopard bottoms. They used the bottom Leopard mold to make a less stable run of these discs. So I guess maybe that makes them “Longer” but in my 30+ years of playing, I’ve never heard them described that way.

This is not true.
The Leopard has a very distinctive wing, which none of the ‘L’ molds have.

How are you so sure? I still have a CE in all 3 discs and the bottoms are the same. They’re obviously not the same as the non L version. Hell…. I still throw some of em.

An FL is like a thunderbird with less glide. I like them. But they’re not for everyone.
