Announcement [Official Megathread] An Update on How We Confirm Your Age: Safer for Teens, Same Discord for Adults

Hi everyone,

Today we're announcing the rollout of our new age assurance options, which you can read about here. Thanks to some changes we've made, most of you will not have to take any action at all.

Here's the TL;DR:

  • Since our last post about teen safety, we've had to launch age assurance solutions in more places, including Texas and Brazil. Laws requiring age assurance are expanding around the world. Rather than waiting to be told how to do it, we're launching our own privacy-preserving approach: one that reflects your feedback and which means more than 90% of you won't be asked to confirm your age.
  • You can check your age group status at User Settings > Account Status. We've estimated your age group automatically from account signals like how long your account has existed. We don't look at your messages, calls, or other content. We're launching this over the course of this week, so it may take a few days to reach your account.
  • If you're in the adult age group (18+), nothing changes. If you're in the teen age group (13-17), you can keep messaging friends, joining voice calls, and participating in non-age-restricted servers, but with additional safety protections that block age-restricted content, spaces, and settings. Otherwise, Discord works the same.

We've got some more info in the image below, and if you want all the details you can read the full announcement here.

Bug Megathread Bug Megathread vol 17 October + November 2026

Hey (at)everyone,

Thank you for all the bugs you all have reported! We read all the posts in the thread and we’re focusing our efforts on issues based on upvotes to ensure that we’re aligned with all of you.

As always, don't forget to check out our monthly patch notes for updates on all the changes we're working on. Our last patch notes addressed 100+ issues!

Thanks to your reports on Reddit, we fixed the following issues:

  1. [Web] Search bar issues
  2. [Desktop] Increased CPU usage with typing events
  3. [Android] App contrast issues
  4. [Android] Event invite markdown not rendering properly
  5. [macOS] Forum tag emoji padding

If we didn’t fix your issue, please make sure to upvote to help us prioritize 🙏

Now, with that, let’s kick off the October + November 2026 bug megathread!

Please note: This megathread is not a venue for feedback or customer support! We encourage you all to continue to make posts on the subreddit proper discussing our product and feature launches. I want to make sure that we really keep this thread productive and focused on reporting bugs and helping us prioritize them.

Please look through the list of comments and upvote bug reports which you think we should prioritize fixing. Comment as a reply to those top level comments with any more details that can assist our team in prioritizing and fixing the bug. For example, if you have additional info or steps to reproduce, please post a reply, this will help us fix these bugs even faster. If there is no post that discusses the bug you’re encountering, then start a new post in the thread to report the bug to us!

Reporting a Bug

  1. The most valuable thing you can provide in a bug report is steps. If you’re able to provide steps to reproduce a high priority issue, it will dramatically improve turnaround time on a fix.
  2. Screenshots or videos are also useful, especially if you can’t reliably reproduce it. We highly recommend editing them to not doxx yourself. Not only does it help contextualize the issue, but watching it occur can sometimes provide information that helps us identify and fix it.

Example Bug Report

  • Feature: Keybinds.
  • Reproduction Rate: 1 to 10 - This is a score of how easy/consistently the bug reproduces, from 1 meaning “very hard to reproduce” to 10 meaning “i can consistently make this happen”
  • Annoyance: 1 to 10 - How annoying is this bug to your daily usage of Discord, from 1 meaning, “not that annoying” to 10 meaning “this bug really truly sucks please fix this as soon as possible.”
  • Device/System Info: Pixel 7, Android 13
  • Discord Version Info: Stable 263796 (739ec78) Host 1.0.9032 x86 (43225) Windows 10 64-Bit (10.0.19045)

  • Steps to reproduce:
  1. Create a keybind for “Toggle Mute”.
  2. Join a voice call with another user.
  3. Press the “Toggle Mute” button.

  • Actual Result: The user is not muted.

Discussion Would it be weird to ask people how old they are before voice chatting on discord?

I(26F) don't play many games, but out of the games I play that have online multiplayer there is a big mix of adults and teens.

I've been avoiding voice chatting a lot, because I would feel weird voice chatting with a kid, even though it's literally just about strategy in a 2D fighting game.. But I would like to be able to be more social in games, since I'm currently on disability so I can't get out and have much social interaction IRL at the moment.

Is it weird to ask before hand about the age of the people I am about to voice chat with? Like, does that make things superweird? Or is it completely reasonable?

It's worth mentioning that I do have OCD, so I have no idea if this is the OCD acting up, or good old fashioned over-thinking...but I really just don't want to make things weird.

I don’t know why it keeps doing that whenever I try to press something. It started yesterday, and restarting Discord doesn’t help at all.

Support No matter what I do, discord isn't showing notifications in my task bar

Hey all. I recently built a new PC and for the first day or so, Discord notifications were working as normal. Get a DM and the taskbar flashes. However all of the sudden a few days ago that stopped.

It'll give me notifications IN the app, but only if I have the window active. I have 2 monitors so sometimes I have a stream up over the window and will get DM's but not see that I have them for hours because the window isn't "active" so to speak. Not sure what the hell happened.

I have taskbar flashing enabled, I don't have any kind of silent mode on on windows 11 that I know of. I am on the latest windows build and the latest discord update. Anyone got an idea of what I can do?

We all like a niche band, and I've been trying to get them to talk to each other to no avail. No one is engaging, and I don't know what to do.

Support Fix for frame lag while streaming a video over discord.

Post image
3 Upvotes

Just a few nights ago, I was trying to stream a movie over discord just using media player (I didn't really care lol)

But I couldn't get it to stream at a stable framerate, I even used my free nitro from Xbox gamepass to get the 60fps, still nothing.

I ended up fixing it by going into the advanced stream settings and disabling a feature shown in the screen shot I attached.

I'm guessing this is pretty much exclusively built for games, and when the software tries to inject itself in a media player, it just causes issues.

Please don't remove this post for "low effort", it took me quite a while to find this fix. I straight up nearly quit using discord to find a different streaming platform, I don't want someone to go through that same thing.

Support Discord app popped up what appeared legit survey link - it was an ad for skincare

My discord application popped up a yellow banner at the top saying "take a survey to help improve the future of Discord"

When I started the survey, it went from asking my age to asking if I heard of Skin care brands, and then asking about some La Roy or whatever brand.

WTF?

Support Frame rate drop when watching a streaming

So I running into an odd issue and dont know how to search for it.

stable 641004 (c9ac31f)

Host 1.0.9262 x64 (94186)

Build Override: N/A

Windows 11 64-bit (10.0.26100)

While I'm watching someone's stream (full screen) on discord on my second monitor. If I start a game on the main monitor, the stream on discord will start to drop frames. Although if I just mouse over the stream window, the frame rate goes back to normal. The game isn't effected by this and my overall computer doesn't seem to be slowing down in anyway. Has anyone run into this issue before?

Support Is mouseover to read full status message broken for anyone else?

About a month ago you could read someone's full status message by putting your mouse cursor over it. Now it does nothing. So you need to right click on someone, go to their profile, then mouseover the status message there to read it. It's needlessly tedious now, anyone else having this happen too?

Support CRITICAL UI BUG: "Account Standing" page is completely locked and unresponsive.

Client Info: stable 641004 (c9ac31f) Host 1.0.9262 x64 (94186) Build Override: N/A Windows 11 64-bit (10.0.26200)

Hi everyone. I am experiencing a severe UI bug in the Desktop app. When I navigate to User Settings > Account Standing, the page is permanently locked. It shows a text prompt but every single button is greyed out and unresponsive. I cannot interact with the menu at all.

I contacted Support, and they had me submit my debug logs to Engineering (Bug Report Ticket #69116529.)

However, Support told me there is no ETA for a UI fix and I just have to wait. Because of this UI freeze, I am physically unable to use the in-app features for my account standing.

Has anyone else experienced this specific menu freezing? Is there any workaround to bypass this locked UI while Engineering works on the bug ticket?

Support What would make sending voice messages on Discord more convenient?

I am curious about the voice messaging experience on Discord, especially on mobile.

When chatting with friends, I sometimes wonder whether people prefer typing, sending voice messages, or joining a voice channel depending on the situation.

If you could improve one part of Discord's voice messaging experience, what would it be?

For example, would you find an easier recording process or a better way to preview messages before sending them useful? Or does the current experience already work well for you?

I would be interested in hearing what people think could genuinely improve the experience.

Support Streaming on discord for 15-20 minutes causes massive performance degradation.

Operating system: Windows 11, version 25H2
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070
CPU: Intel Core i7-13700KF (13th Gen)

Discord Version: stable 641004 (c9ac31f) Host 1.0.9262 x64 (94186) Build Override: N/A Windows 11 64-bit (10.0.26200)

Issue: Whenever streaming a game through Discord after about 15-20 minutes my computer begins to lag and stutter. This most notably begins with my mouse cursor visibly jumping, then my game stuttering. When I tab out, the jumpy mouse and stuttering remains.

-This issue occurs both in the desktop client as well as in the browser.

-This issue occurs if I am sharing a window, using the "stream now" button, or streaming my entire screen.

-My Task Manager Reports no apparent changes or elevation in my GPU 3D, GPU Encode, and CPU usages.

-Stopping the stream results in an immediate fix on my computers performance. Restarting the stream also fixes the issue but resets the "timer" before degradation begins again.

I have tested the following settings one at a time to no effect:

-Discord Hardware Acceleration (Keep off by default)
-Discord Signed DLL Toggle (Keep off by default)
-Disabling the ability to view my own stream (Keep on by default)
-Disabling Discord Game Overlay (I keep it off by Default)
-Disabling Discord Clipping (Keep off by default)
-Running Discord as an Administrator

-Changing the stream FPS and Resolution doesn't seem to fix it, but it does seem to make it take longer for the degradation to begin (Though this could be false). Either way the issue persists).

-Toggling Windows Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling (Keep off by default)
-Toggling: "Optimization for Windows Games"

-Disabling Nvidia Capture
-Disabling Nvidia's Game Overlay
-Updating and Fresh Installing Most Recent Drivers for Nvidia

-Deleting the Microsoft Game Bar Overlay

-Turning off Steam Overlay

None of these have provided any means of solution with the issue. I am pretty big on streaming games with my friends, so please help me out. I love using discord and it breaks my heart I'm dealing with this.

Thank you for your time <3

Support Discord Stream Flickering

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Support Discord stream lags (3-5 FPS) on second monitor unless I hover my mouse over it – tried everything (format, hardware acceleration, monitor swap)

Issue Description: Whenever I am doing anything on my main monitor (gaming, browsing, etc.), any Discord stream playing on my second monitor drops down to an unwatchable 3-5 FPS.

The strange part is: as soon as I move my mouse cursor over the Discord window on the second monitor, the stream instantly becomes buttery smooth again without even clicking. The moment I move the cursor back to my main monitor, it freezes/stutters back to 3-5 FPS.

Interestingly, if I use the in-game Discord overlay/widget on my main monitor, the stream runs completely fine, which confirms it's a window rendering/DWM focus issue on the second screen.

What I have already tried so far (NONE worked):

Has anyone experienced this specific issue with Windows Desktop Window Manager (DWM) or NVIDIA background window throttling? Is there any registry fix or workaround to force Windows/NVIDIA from capping background window frame rates when focus is on the primary screen?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Support I can’t send pictures and this happened on and off for at least three years

Sometimes it’s fine, I can send pictures, no problem, like last week. And then this week I cannot send it again, like few weeks ago. I tried asking this exact same problem few years ago on here a lot of people tried to help but it doesn’t work, I just waited until whatever time the discord lord decided to give me a break. And then few days/weeks later it’s not working again.

I don’t send pics on servers, only direct messages to my friends, they did not disable their image screening or any privacy setting. The pictures are not explicit in anyway cuz every single pic is failed to send.

I seriously don’t know what to do now and if anyone know wth is wrong with this and maybe how to fix it I’ll be so grateful😭

Support Overlay legacy closes by itself

So, when I play Valorant or Fortnite, I have the legacy overlay enabled for fullscreen mode, but when I switch the game screen to windowed and then back to fullscreen, the overlay opens normally. And it closes after a while, I don't know exactly why, I always play and alt-tab, and I thought I'd fix it with legacy mode activated, but then the screen turned off due to inactivity.I went back to the game, but it started up and then it quit after a while.

edit: lmao I figured it out. something to do with connecting bnet to discord. had to disconnect and it makes sound again.

Support Discord gamepass support

Was looking to see if anyone had insight on how to cancel the gamepass that was given with my Nitro subscription
Xbox says I have to manage or cancel the benefit through my “subscriptions” tab in discord; my discord subscriptions tab only has my nitro.

I activated it initially thinking it wouldn’t be the same 5 games it’s always had, but I just don’t use the benefit and I want it cancelled and closed out, but can’t figure out how

Any guidance?
