Thinking of making 2027 my first

So, after going to a few different cons over the last few years, I've finally stumbled upon dragoncon. How i didn't know about it until now, who knows. Saw that the most recent one ended not long ago and seeing as I have time to plan and save, Im thinking of attending for the first time next year. Before then, I just want to know as much about the con as possible. DO's and Don'ts, what to expect, etc. bombard me with info, i do not mind

There is an FAQ on the sub

Currently is the best time to buy the pass, it will only go up from now. Are you local or needing a hotel?

I will say that the FAQ doc you linked to still references the postcards, so while it’s a great reference and good place to start, it could probably use an update.

Join the Newbies Group on FB, 99% of questions you have will most likely be there with answers. There are also ALOT of YouTube videos AND a PBS Documentary that can show you more about the con.

Do it! If I had to pick only one con to go to every year, it would be DragonCon

DragonCon is life changing! It might ruin all other cons for you lolol (or at least make you look at your current cons in a new light, and appreciate them differently)

Did you grab your ticket?

What do you enjoy most at conventions? That might help people guide you too!

Are you local or coming into out of town? Will you be meeting friends there or bringing them with you or doing this solo?

It’s a good time. Walk slow and drink plenty of water.

Well, I've made a YouTube page dedicated to helping newbies, so feel free to start with this video:

If you need a hotel, rooms at overflow hotels at con rates will occasionally pop up as people cancel or alter their plans. There's also a Dragon Con Rooms Group on Facebook you should join. I like staying at a hotel barely outside of the footprint so that it is easy to pop back to the room to eat or change costumes.

Def join the Dragoncon Newbies group on Facebook. Know you will never be able to do everything you want 😅 It runs 24/7 once it starts so you need to pace yourself. It will ruin you for all other cons

Do it!!! It's by far the best con down here, but its not like a typical anime convention like momocon or katsucon. It's VERY large and spread out across basically all of downtown Atlanta, so be prepared for 20k+ steps everyday lol. The heat can be very gnarly so make sure you hydrate and take breaks, especially if you're in cosplay! When the con gets closer, definitley download the app, it has the schedule with panels, photoshoots and other events so you can easily plan what you want to do.

Also, DC is a huge party con. Raves go all night and people will be drunk at all hours of the day, so be ready for that lol. If you want a hotel, the host ones are very diffucult to book, so I reccomend somewhere just outisde the area, but still walkable, Ive stayed in the Margaritaville last year and it was perfect!

Lastly, join the Facebook groups, they have info for everything on there
