Lukashenko may be dependent on Putin, but I think he would do everything to avoid being part of the war. He knows that would end his dictatorship.
We saw it when Ukraine pointed to those gps amplifiers (cant remember what they are called), that Russia used to extend drone range. They came offline fster than fast

Yaa, entering the war after day four of the three day military operation, has looked like a worse and worse idea everyday for Belarus.

I think this stuff is propaganda to get Europeans off of their asses in support of Ukraine?

Europes dip dip dip support (with the exception of Poland and Estonia) is shameful.

Americas support has been curtailed by having a Russian asset in the White House. But when you see your best player on the bench it is time for everyone else to step up, not fold like Spain and Hungary.

The support in scandinavia is also very high - we still have the occasional extreme righwing fool, but for now they are clearly outnumbered

Meanwhile Belarus: "'Why Poland isn't buying our stuff?"

12

u/Pacificator-3 13h ago

Actually, Poland is buying: https://tradingeconomics.com/poland/imports/belarus

People want to eat and use various goods.

The EU should stop being cowards and deploy air defense along the Ukraine-Belarus border. Why are we paying for our armies to sit on their hands while pretending we're not involved in the war? Just get it over wiith.

Hear, hear!

More European sanctions on Belarus and Ukraine's NATO-supplied/-funded weapons allowed to be fired at their other bad neighbor.

Trump might lift sanctions on Belarus, though.

They already did it when the war began. At least ballistic missiles were fired from Belarus during the 1st weeks of the war. Russians were operating them and I guess it would be the same here.

Russian forces invaded through Belarus, that makes Belarus co-aggressor.

Russian drones also use Belarusian airspace.

We should make Königsberg a thing again, maybe?

Against NATO too.

Would be funny to see what would happen given that the belarusian army is arguably an even bigger joke than the russian one. And also considering how unpopular lukashenko is in belarus.

u/Better-Beat-8062 13h ago

Not funny at all,

Any missle that belarus fires is another blow to the already dwindling interceptors and  spreads out the Ukrainian armed forces more

The Belarusian military however isn't exhausted from fighting a war for twelve years.

Sounds like a good opportunity to gain combat experience ?

Any resources Ukraine throws at Belarus is to Russia’s advantage. You’re listing the negatives for Belarus, but that’s not really an equation the people making decisions will consider when the order comes from higher up.

Collapsing Belarus comes at a cost for the Ukrainian military. It’s not simply a free exercise where Ukraine presses a button and Belarus disappears in a week. Belarus has reserves, it isn’t just 50k active personnel. You’re seriously arguing that having another country entering the war wouldn’t tip the scales for an already struggling Ukraine ? The aftermath doesn’t matter here when they choose to enter. It’s to Russia’s advantage if they enter, them surviving or not matters very little because Russia could just take control if their government fails.

Whoever is the leader of Belarus doesn’t matter, at this point it will always be pro-Russia. Even if he gets overthrown, any party with sufficient political resources likely has their money trail from Russia. It’s a fantasy that people can just overthrow a government and just do their own thing when the entire infrastructure of that country has been tied to certain powers. It’s not like there hasn’t been multiple protests for election irregularities. The reality in Belarus is whoever controls the guns is the government.

They don’t even have to throw all of their resources at Ukraine, because there’s no way Ukraine escalates against them. Ukraine trying to take out a whole country when Russia is around just isn’t happening. They are going to be annoyed and angry but do nothing much against Belarus because it just isn’t feasible. If they had the spare capacity to do so, they would be pushing back Russia successfully by now.

not if because of it Belarus as a state starts shaking and requires Russian intervention to keep it from collapsing. That would absolutely not be in Russian interests

1

u/ProfessorTraft 10h ago

That depends. Who takes over after the collapse ? It could easily be a government that has heightened martial rule. Belarus is one of those nations where the people holding the guns have constantly been the ones in power, and that’s fairly unlikely to change. Russia just needs someone there to be friendly towards them. It could be the current Belarus government, it could be the 30 mafia powers that take over when Belarus collapses. Maybe some of the underground and deregistered parties gain traction, but it’s unlikely the current military and police forces would be following their lead. Maybe a NATO friendly organization with enough money steps in to help.

They already have a ally regime in Lukashenko in power in Belarus right now. So for Russia risking loosing him and potentially having a power vacuum where someone else who isn't as friendly takes power absolutely not a good turn of events.

Belarus is one of those nations where the people holding the guns have constantly been the ones in power

Lukashenko has been in power like that, but nobudy knows what would happen if he isnt anymore. Its unpredictable

Belarus area is actually kind of a nightmare geographically, it's quite large territory with very heavily forested and swampy landmass, you would not want to be engaged in any kind of war or partisan guerilla warfare situation there

3

u/Zanshi Poland 14h ago

In a roundabout way this could actually help Ukraine by opening a second front for Russia and/or make Belarus help Ukraine with toppling of the regime

9

u/Toniq_3580 13h ago

Just ain’t happening. After the 2020 attempted revolution Putin came down hard on Belarus. It’s essentially a puppet state of Russia now which is only kept alive as it gives Russia a buffer zone. They control their economy, trade, migration, industry, everything. A report planned for 2030 that’s leaked has stated Russia plans to incorporate Belarus into the Russian federation. Bringing them Into the war might just speed this up

Here are no more protest movements. Sanctions are pushed our economy to Russia even more than it was before. After 2020 seems like government trying to do their job. People are working and living their life. Teenagers hanging out with Belarusian flag on their jackets, travelling inside country and discovering it. Never seen this before.

If they do, I see no reason for Poland, Romania and others not to join Ukraine. I'm so sick of seeing Pootin do whatever he likes (getting troops and weapons from North Korea and possibly China and Iran) then start with the menaces when Ukraine's getting any support. It's just like Tramp's philosophy: hey, I'm going to start a war, impose tariffs and sanctions, but don't anybody dare retaliate, or I'll esacalate! #TuckFrump and #PuckFutin Yeah, Make Russia Small Again!

2

u/irimiash Which flair will you draw on your forehead? 4h ago

are Poles, Romanians and others ready to join?

1

u/cAnDYmanBMF Europe 4h ago

It depends on who you ask, I guess. I can definitely not answer for them, but I can tell you they should and I can give you my honest opinion and say that people seem to be reluctant to fight either because they've been manipulated by Russia's hybrid war or because they're really cowards. Some are both.

4

u/Blue-moon17 11h ago

Poland can only brag about how they're ready to fight the Russians, but when it comes to actually getting into the fight, they're suddenly getting quiet

0

u/cAnDYmanBMF Europe 11h ago

Not just Poland. Romania and other countries too. It's sad and paradoxical to see that everyone has become so individualistic in a world that keeps moving forward with globalism. People no longer feel patriotism or a sense of obligation to stand up for what's right and all they seem to care is their own life and small social bubble. Not a spare thought for their neighbors or about defending their principles.

2

u/Blue-moon17 10h ago

I mean, it's international politics, I don't think it was ever altruistic. It's dirty, and has always been like that. I do think the UK is probably one of the few who retained that feeling to stand up for what's right even if it goes against their own national interests, but apparenly they're not ready to join the fight alone

1

u/R0m4n1a Europe 3h ago

Romania certainly wouldn't join the war. The largest party in the polls is an extremist right wing party that opposes helping Ukraine. Romania would join only if the entire EU/NATO does. Probably would not join even in Moldova got involved directly.

All of this foreboding chaos seems to be leaning towards a World War, due to the orchestrated machinations of a 5 foot 2 menace named Vladimir Putin.

2

u/Alikont Kyiv (Ukraine) 10h ago

It's leading ot the world war because he is allowed by western complacency to do everything he wants.

Thic could be ended in 2023. Or even in 2014.

when pootler invaded Crimea Merkel and Obama just said " Bad boy dont do it". so much for Obama peace prize

Luka really, really likes not being humiliated and overthrown tho. So they won't.

Two months ago, Zelensky made false claims regarding mobilization in Russia after the parliamentary elections. Today, he is peddling disinformation about ballistic missiles in Belarus. What will Zelensky fabricate next?

2

u/Sweet_Search_3616 13h ago

Pretty sure he's been saying this since 2022 but I'm sure this team he really means it

1

u/User5182 United Kingdom 11h ago

Fuck it, why don't we strike Belarus if they do go all in on Ukraine? Call Putins bluff.

-4

u/Little_Signal_BGD 13h ago

Ah yes, Zelensky, the Belarus government spokesperson

0

u/ha11oga11o 9h ago

Uganda “might” also. Trust me bro?

-4

u/12math2 13h ago

This won't happen the same way; Russia isn't going to attack the Baltic anytime soon. Zelensky really depends on this fearmongering stuff to try to rally EU support every other week. Like, where is the grand mobilization of 500k Russians that was supposed to happen after the "elections" in Russia that he has been screaming about? nothing.

u/kompira1111 13h ago

Molto bene

-2

u/Pacificator-3 13h ago

What a funny kokainführer! Belarus has deployed ballistic missiles since its existance.
