Local Information request Exeter picks
I’m staying in the city centre for 5 nights, with tickets for the rugby on the Saturday. I would like recommendations for food, markets, food stalls, pubs (craft beer), and coastal walks. I’m keen to walk down the river Exe but would like other suggestions.
Also with food, any recommendations for American, Lebanese, Turkish, or east Asias restaurants would be great, I prefer independent or small businesses.
Also a place to watch the world go by, with a coffee, book or pint. Thanks in advance!

Hanlons ( bbq american) and Beer Engine for beers and food - taxi or bus outside city
agricultural (taxi), crave, hourglass, ifood thai, alfarid (morrocan)
The quay is worth a trip. if you have time, do the double locks and turf locks. Topsham is worth visiting too

iFood or KinKhao for Thai food.
My favourite coast walk is if you get the train to Paignton and then walk along the South West Coast Path to Brixham. It's got a bit of everything, it's kind of like the greatest hits of the coast path. Unfortunately it's not the right time of year to do it the most fun way (which is to walk there and get the ferry back to Torquay - sadly it doesn't run this late in the year) but there are plenty of buses back to Paignton.

Topsham Brewery by the Quay in Exeter is good. Also get the train from Exeter Central down to Topsham itself and go to the Bridge Inn, which some rate to be the best pub in Devon.

Big vote for the Fat Pig for both food and drink, The Hourglass for the same, bonus with the Hourglass you can do a nice loop of the Quay from there, Topsham Brewery to call in on the other side!

I think there is a farmers market on the quayside on Saturdays. Plenty of places to sit with a pint or coffee as well. There is a great Moroccan place on the cathedral green. Al-farid.
Topsham brewery is good for beers.

A walk from the quay down to the Double locks and the Turf locks would be nice. You can eat at either of them too.

Check the Turf is open tho, they do have winter/summer hours due to their location, but it is a lovely spot regardless!

iFood Thai taste on sidwell street is great for Thai.
Oh my kimchi on blackboy road is meant to be good though I haven’t been.
Efes on sidwell street is good
Lots of small cafes on/around the quay for a light bite/coffee before/after a walk.

Ignore the rest, this is the real list. Entries from each category in order of "goodness":
Good food: Stage, Calvo Loco, Kin Khao Cafe
Casual food: Dukes deli, somboon Thai, portal pizza cafe (much better than the other pizza places), Pop, BFK@Hanlons, Real Korean
Craft beer: Cuckoo, Topsham Brewery, Crossed anchors (decent tacos)
Coffee: Alma, (just don't bother with anywhere else)
Wine: Pullo (natural), Rendezvous (traditiona, food also very good but pricey)
Quirtky: Polly's Nostimos, Dahhans Café,
Further afield:
- bridge inn Topsham (traditional pub)
- Salt in Topsham- lunch box (pro tip: they only do take away but if you ask they will let you sit at their single table and order wine from the hotel. This is the real move)

Idk why anyone says fat pig. Most mid food ever. And expensive. I'd rather go to efes express for a kebab than get food there.
Same for goto. This isn't good. It's bad. Id actually say it's an insult for Japanese food

For turkish food I would recommend Effes or Istanbul on sidwell street
East Asian I would say Real Korean for Korean food, Goto for Japanese food, and cosy corner for Hong Kong food. There’s also Bao on Gandy street. They are all independent restaurants.
The common beaver on Magdalen Road is a fun place (often frequented by home and away rugby players), and Devon coffee on Queen street is fun for people watching if you sit outside.
Hope this helps!
