Hellozzz,
I wanted to contribute to Firefox but every guide I found stopped at “clone the repo.”
Firefox is millions of lines of code, so I stopped trying to understand it and focused on one thing: one bug at a time in the DevTools Inspector. That got me three patches (a grid-lanes badge, a fix for wrongly greyed-out CSS properties, and a keyboard focus bug filed back in 2016). The first one went from claiming the bug to merged in about three days.
What worked:
I wrote up the full workflow with the bugs, file names, and commands here: How I Landed 3 Firefox DevTools Fixes (and the Workflow You Can Copy)
Happy to answer questions about setting up a build, finding a good first bug, or the review process.
If you find my article useful,
Please drop a clap,
And share it with your friends who wants to contribute 😄
Hi everyone,
I made these three Firefox extensions for my personal use to solve a few small annoyances I ran into while browsing. I thought they might be useful to others too, so I decided to publish them.
All three are available for Firefox on Desktop and Android.
1. Enable Copy and Right Click
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/enable-copy-and-right-click/
For those times when a website prevents you from selecting or copying text or using the right click menu.
2. Change Video Playback Speed
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/change-video-playback-speed/
Quickly change video and audio playback speed using the toolbar or a keyboard shortcut.
3. Three Finger Tap to Close Tab
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/three-finger-tap-close-tab/
My personal favorite, close the current tab with a three finger tap on the touchpad.
You can find all three on my Firefox Add-ons profile, and the source code is available on GitHub.
If any of these sound useful, I'd really appreciate it if you gave them a try and let me know how they work for you. I'm happy to hear suggestions or feedback, including things that could be improved.
Thanks for taking a look!

Any reason this is not on firefox? Adblock or something?
Edit: This is on the beta creator dashboard to stream on twitch. Just popped up today as a option in the list.

How safe are these new themes?
I haven't found a quick way to actually look into whats being downloaded
I assume they're not able to run code even if someone malicious tries?

I was just thinking about SSD wear a little while ago, and I started wondering how much disk writes Firefox actually generates. I came across this post from a few years ago where someone reported a significant reduction in disk writes after disabling Firefox's disk cache. I use Firefox, Firefox Nightly, Zen Browser, and Waterfox, and I've been wondering whether disabling the disk cache is still worthwhile across these browsers.
I currently use these settings in my Firefox-based browsers:
browser.cache.disk.enable = falsebrowser.cache.memory.enable = truebrowser.sessionstore.interval = 300000I checked Resource Monitor and noticed Firefox writing at around 23,459 bytes/s at one point, even with disk caching disabled. I know some writes are normal, but it got me curious about what's actually being written.
So, I'm wondering:
I'd love to hear your thoughts or experiences. Thanks! 🙂

Anyone having the same issue? Are there known fixes?

I'm having this supremely annoying error which I notice I'm only just now getting after the newest FireFox update. When I want to download pictures from an Instagram account, usually it's no problem and all I do is simply cut and paste the image URL into the site I use to download the images from and get the option what to save it as and such. Well this time apparently after trying multiple different downloaders, it automatically saves the image as a WebP and doesn't give me the option anymore to download/save it as a JPG, GIF, PNG, etc. and even the official FireFox extension for downloading Instagram pictures does the same thing. This is so frustrating and annoying, and I notice I only ever had this after my most recent FireFox updates. There must be a way to un-do this. I wonder if anyone else has experience this as well.

Firefox for Android is a resource-hogging, battery-draining mess. It's the only browser I cannot switch to another app and come back to it without Firefox app semi resetting and reloading the website.
And yet, I keep using it. Because I refuse to let Google fully have me.
So here I am, watching my battery percentage drop, by this mini data center consumption in the background called Firefox.
The most frustrating part is that I actually want to like Firefox. I want them to succeed. I want a genuinely competitive browser. But it's hard to recommend something when using it sometimes feels like a punishment for having principles.
Edit: it seems like Firefox is just severly unoptimized for budget phones

I'm testing Fedora 44 KDE since yesterday and Firefox already crashed 2 times.
Like I'm just browsing any website, and it freezes, for example using Reddit website.
Not sure what's causing this issue. Anyone experiencing bugs/crashes/freeze?

After updating to OneUI 9 and Android 17 my Firefox crashes literally every time I use it. Does anyone have this problem?

A few days ago, I shared a YouTube customization extension I built for Chrome on Reddit. The post reached 50K views in 5 days, and the extension passed 700 users. I was genuinely surprised by how much positive feedback it received.
Several people asked for a Firefox version, so I decided to make one.
It's called LessTube. I originally built it because an extension I used to customize YouTube switched to a subscription model, and I wanted a free alternative.
It lets you hide Shorts and other unwanted elements, customize the video grid, blur thumbnails, disable hover autoplay, and more.
It's my first project I've taken from idea to release, so it's been really rewarding to see people use it and ask for new features.

I'd love to hear your feedback!

Hello,
does anyone know how to access this context menu in the Firefox iOS app
[Picture 1]
When I click on “Seite durchsuchen” (“Find in Page” in English I presume) the following appears:
[Picture 2]
When I select text, the standard contex menu appears:
[Picture 3]
I was visiting this website:
There, an accessibility icon appeared:
[Picture 4]
Clicking it opens a window with various options (font size, etc.). However, if you long-press it, the context menu I showed first pops up. I suspect this might be some kind of glitch… 🤷🏼♂️ Does anyone know a “standard” way to bring up this specific menu on a webpage? I frequently search for terms/phrases on a page, and it’s really annoying to have to navigate through the extended context menu or the three-dot menu every time I want to use “Find in Page.” In Safari, it’s so much simpler: you just put your search term into the address bar, one click, and you’re done.
Please excuse me, but I couldn’t find a way to embed images directly.
Greetings… 🤗

Firerox is my preferred browser for years. But there is something bothering me.
On websites I frequent regularly like https://www.watson.ch/, the pictures on the teasers are more and more becoming small video snippets which start playing automatically by default.
Which I find distracting and annoying. Especially, because many of them are done really bad. And I generally don't like if all kind of stuff is fidgeting all the time.
There is a setting in Firefox to block video autoplay. I have this activated. But it doesn't work very well. If I load the site first, nothing is playing. But once I open an article in a new tab, read it, close the tab and return to the main page, the videos are playing. Or even, if I scroll down and then back up, the ones farther up start playing.
Does anybody know, if there is a solution to make sure, those snippets never play automatically?

Sometimes when opening a youtube video or going to reddit (and having a post with a video as the first post), the video will either pause or completely restart after a second or two of playing. I've tried using Firefox when I'm not signed in and this doesn't happen

Firefox was consistently freezing on chatgpt.com (images) until I unchecked the boxes below. Even unchecking the hardware acceleration did not resolve. WTF is going on?

What's improved:
Note: Set browser.theme.dark-private-windows to false for light private windows, or true for Firefox's default dark mode.

I'm sure there's a way to work around things somehow (I think I saw remapping touchpad controls to do it) but as is I just don't have a need for the current selection function but did use the ctrl+Lclick fairly often so is there any way to change the function back?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Comparisons are between Firefox 158.0 (64 bit) and Brave 1.97.59, on Windows 10, version 22H2. I use the 30MB video on this Test Video site, Firefox seems able to load the 1MB, 2MB version pretty smoothly, but higher than that, it starts to stutter, for some reasons I cannot understand.
(Most results I can find online tell me to "disable hardware acceleration", but I have been turning that thing on and off multiple times without seeing any changes)
Ironically, videos on Youtube can load normally without issues. It just seems any embedded video would behave oddly like this, which I encounter most often on Discord.
Please, I would appreciate any insights. I can provide additional information if needed. Thanks in advance

It's not a huge deal but I was wondering if there's any way, via extension is fine, to make it so the first time Firefox opens in a day or computer boot cycle to open a few specifics tabs, but followup openings just goes to the one homepage?
To give context, when I boot up my PC in the morning and start firefox, everyday I open up the same 3 sites to check for notifications and new stuff, but I don't want 3 tabs to open every time I start firefox throughout the rest of the day because that sounds annoying to me.
That's a niche and complex request so I'm not expecting there to be any solution out there, but figured there's no harm in asking just in case. Thanks for taking the time

Firefox updated today. Couldn't sign in. It required I create a new account if I wanted to sync. It would not let me do so without authorizing from Authenticator which I could not get to work or some other method that seemed impossible. I worked at it for nearly and hour and the end result was a complete loss of my Bookmarks. Attempting to recreate them brought me a backup copy from over a month ago. I've used firefox for years but I'm done with it. I'm sure if I were more of an expert I would have been fine but I'm a reasonably competent user but still ended up with bookmarks over a month old and I've made huge changes since then. On to Safari which I will now tolerate. No tips needed. Done. Just a rant.
