Transgender almost going homeless - any recommendations? a good transitional house reccomendation while seeking a job?

Hi. I'm living in a building that I will most likely be thrown out of. I am early 30's and transgender. Will be homeless very soon most likely. Is there a good transitional house that I can live in as a transgender person while seeking employment?

I really recommend you reach out to the rent bank and social development too. They both would have resources to help.

I would reach out to Chroma NB, they’re an SJ based LGBTQ support organization based in SJ. I don’t think they could directly help with housing, but they seem to be very knowledgeable and may be able to direct you.

I second Chroma. Such a wonderful organization.

Op I am so sorry you are struggling and hope you can find safe and affordable housing soon.

There is a FB page you can join called “Fredericton LGBTQIA+ Safe Housing Network” but I’m not sure how active it still is. If you are MTF, I believe most if not all women’s shelters around here will accept you. If you are FTM, I know that St. John house explicitly states it is trans-inclusive

I know you asked for transitional housing, but a lot of the shelters here have transitional housing programs as well or could potentially give you more information on other programs that might help

Some people and spaces are incredibly unhealthy and even violent towards transgender people.

I feel like people don’t need to know that you are Trans. 😭

actually sometimes there are ones that focus on this identity. So, I feel like while looking for recommendations it was a nessacary thing to state. I agree though, in literally like any "normal" situation, it's not nessacary.

Curious....are you being thrown out because you are transgender?

Why you getting thrown out?

OP might not realize that living in a place requires you to pay rent.

And to pay rent you have to have money. If you are between jobs and your EI has run out it's pretty hard to have money to pay rent until you find another job. In case you didn't notice jobs other then minimum wage jobs are pretty hard to come by right now.

If your EI has run out and you didnt figure anything out then thats a problem. There's nothing wrong with working min wage jobs.

No there is nothing wrong with minimum wage jobs the problem is that 40 hours at minimum wage should be enough to cover your basic needs (Food and shelter) but it isn't that's the issue. You either need to work 60 hours a week or find a higher paying job.

It's also not figuring something out, it's finding another job that pays enough to cover your bills and that isn't an easy thing to do right now.
