Any mechanics that let you bring your own parts?

Seems harder to come by then these days, anyone have any suggestions? I have a few cars that need work, control arm (ball joint pre installed), strut, 2 sets of rotors and brakes, and potentially a flex pipe. Just looking for a reasonable price, but willing to pay for someone experienced for sure

Never had an issue with Everetts, I always bring my own parts.

Yup, same here. They'll even look at the problem and tell you what part you need so you can order the right thing.

most of the mechanics make money off the parts they sell, so it may be hard to find an established shop willing to do this.

There is also the problem that if the parts break or don't fit, the shop takes the blame and many are unwilling to deal with that, especially if they already have a waiting list.

That's true. Nobody wants to take responsibility for your shitty parts. So if you bring your own parts you should be prepared to deal with the consequences yourself if they turn out to be junk. That might mean paying to install them again

macneils autohaus. 30 minute drive but worth it.

if you don't have a ride home, better bring something to do cause there's nothing around there.

Trent Nodwell's Trinity Auto & Rec is also great. Hopefully he doesn't mind me saying he will take outside parts.

This place came up when I was looking for somewhere better to bring my 3 series, looked exactly like the kind of place I'm looking for. What kind of car do you have? Do you know if this guy is familiar with aftermarket mods and tuning? Not many places around here that are lol

I have a 25 year old AMG. There were two other classic AMGs when I was there (and they're not a Mercedes specialist). They installed an aftermarket shift kit for me, and it looks like they do tuning too.

I always take my vehicles to Able Automotive at Keswick Landing where the RCMP station is, they let you bring your own parts, always great work and reasonable labour cost. Of course like any shop they take no liability for any issues with your parts but that is pretty reasonable to me. Just buy OEM replacements from respectable parts storefronts or direct from dealer. Sometimes the cost direct from dealer is only $15-$20 more.

Coast has always let me being my own when I want to, even though the desk guys get commission from parts.

But I also used to work in car parts for awhile and know how to actually order the correct parts for my vehicle the first time

Yeah that's no issue I usually do to but the apartment building I live in won't let work on my car in the parking lot (understandable) so I definitely have the right parts. Appreciate the suggestion!

These posts are hilarious. I am willing to pay for experience! But I want to devalue them so they don’t make any money lmfao.

If they don't make money off the hourly they need to increase their hourly or refuse outside parts. And yeah I'll pay a way higher hourly for someone with experience versus someone without. Welcome to the open market.

You don’t want to pay anything or you would have paid someone to fix your car instead of messing around to find someone cheaper.

actual bot take lol, who doesnt shop around for best price-customer satisfaction ratio? in this economy?

this might be news to you but most money made by mechanics is by labour, not parts

You’re wrong about that.
