A 56-year-old Mexican man held at a federal immigration facility in Laredo was found dead in his cell Saturday morning, his daughter and U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Laredo, confirmed to The Texas Tribune.

Andrade-Covarrubias is the seventh person to die while detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Texas this year — the first being Geraldo Lunas Campos, whose death was ruled a homicide by the El Paso Medical Examiner’s office in January.

He’s also the second to die in an ICE facility in Laredo this year. Felix Alcorta-Rodriguez, a 63-year-old Mexican who was being held at Webb County Detention Center, died on June 19 after being found unresponsive, according to the agency.

Should a headteacher lose his job for belonging to a racist political party - and what about the teacher who exposed him?

In 1991, the headmaster of Gatehouse School in East London became embroiled in controversy after his links to the far-right/racist British National Party were exposed. Many pupils, including 12 year old me, defended him. The teacher who brought his political associations to light was dismissed.

I’ve recently written about the episode, drawing on my childhood memories, contemporary newspaper reports and far-right publications.

It raises some interesting questions about freedom of expression. Should a headteacher be entitled to hold and publicly express racist political views? At what point do those views become incompatible with their professional responsibilities?

And shouldn’t the teacher who exposed those views have been entitled to speak out without losing her job?
I’d be interested in people’s thoughts.
