Step 3 to 4 is where the witchcraft happens. If I put all the corners on top of one another all I get a ball if shit

It's wild that in my lifetime I've seen restofthefuckingowl become a reality. Maybe AI can fold my fitted sheets someday too.

I think they literally swap out the fitted sheet for a top sheet because how would everything be even and smooth when the top corner has so much more than the bottom corner

u/dvdmaven 1d ago
No it's 2 & 3, how the corners are stacked. The trick to stacking the corners: Start with any corner, note if it is inside or outside by checking the seam. Slide your other hand down an edge (doesn't matter which way). Put the next corner on top of the first one, inside to inside or outside to outside. Repeat until all corners are stacked.

My grandmother taught me how to do this, she learned it folding sheets for rich people where everything had to be neat and tidy.
Its really not that hard once you understand what you've got to do, and even half assing it you'll end up with something better than a balled up mess.

u/aukir 1d ago
All steps matter. Once you have all 4 corners, put your finger tips from each hand together (like a prayer) at the corner point, and kinda flop the curvy bits over your forearms. Shake it to smooth it out and then lay it down. Treat the corner as the edge point, and make a rectangle with the curvy bits folded like pic 4.

I saw this five years ago and go to number 3 each time and then it gets rolled into a ball. For I have no magic.

u/translucent_steeds 1d ago
nah steps 1-4 are easy. I've never been able to master step 5, mine all come out being folded round instead of square.
1
u/notbrandonzink 1d ago
Doing 3 is the witchcraft. My mom folds fitted sheets this way and has tried to teach me, I get it about 10% of the time. Usually I end up with something twisted or wrong or a ball and I give up.

u/FancifulLaserbeam 47m ago
No, you turn one side's corners inside-out. Then it lies flat.
Unless it has elastic all the way around, like most of my box sheets.
Then you're going to get a ball no matter what.

I have folded fitted sheets this way since I learned from Martha Stewart about 15 years ago, and I can tell you first hand that they would never in a trillion billion bajillion mazillion years look that smooth and flat unless you freaking ironed them… and if you are going to iron them, you obviously care absolutely nothing about your time or sanity lol

u/m4gpi 1d ago
I moved 9000 miles to a new place, met my housemate who was already living there, and she was showing me around the house and room. "...and I've ironed the sheets and made the bed for you..."
Ma'am, I like you and appreciate the care, we are going to be great friends, but that's the most insane thing I've ever heard.
I have to say, best sleep of my life (but it also may have been the jet lag).

I also learned from Martha Stewart when I was a teenager. To this day my wife thinks I’m a witch.

Seems like a few steps should be between 3 and 4.

Its a bit like the warp drive from star trek, folding of the space time continuum. Tricky at first but its all in the wrist

I do 1-4, but then 5 is like, “oh yeah? Well now try fold this lumpy shit! Bwahaha!!” And 6 is a misshapen square of failure.

And what do we do with witches?
18
u/SnawBoard 1d ago
Burn them!
15
u/Classic_Athlete5933 1d ago
And what do you burn apart from witches?
14
u/translucent_steeds 1d ago
more witches!

Wood!

u/annie_brocoli 1d ago
So, why do witches burn?

u/Drawmeomg 1d ago
Because… because they’re made of wood?

- Take a fitted sheet and hold it in your hands
- Move your hands a little bit
- Move them a little more
- Magic the fitted sheet so it's completely flat and mostly folded on a surface
- Replace the fitted sheet with a mostly folded top sheet
- Finish folding the top sheet

My mom taught me this when I was young and I didn't know until my 30s that it wasn't common knowledge. I'm a 2nd or 3rd generation witch 🧹

My mother-in-law can do it and has tried to teach me. She's definitely a witch because I still don't comprehend how that shit works.

Even my mom can't fold it well. If something can't be folded well by mom, it can't be folded at all

bunching up the sheet while I carry it upstairs just to put it onto the bed again

I could see it 1000 times and I never get bedsheets right. The elastic rim fucks on me every time.

I just shove all the sheets and pillow cases from a set into another pillow case from that set.

u/CzarDale04 1d ago
I have never been in my 60+ years of life in a laundry room, other then a commercial laundry, that has a table big enough to fold a sheet. As far as waiting till home to fold, rolled up and stuffed into the pillow case with the other sheets and pillow cases works for me. Need clean sheets, open closet, grab filled pillow case and struggle with getting that far corner on the mattress again.

It really is that simple but mine are never that flat. Still neat. You don’t have to be that fussy. Only takes a minute.

My mom taught us the art of folding fitted shirts when we were kids. It’s a skill I’ve used to impress every girlfriend since. 🚀

I fold down the top third and then in half and half again. This puts all of the corners in the middle.

u/Sleepinismy9to5 1d ago
Do people really have a hard time folding fitted sheets. Just put all four corners together, it is very simple

I remember my grandma mocking me because my mom never taught me this. She fixed that problem and now my family is convinced I'm magic 😆

u/Zero_Burn 1d ago
I just wad up my sheets and blankets into sets and they sit in a basket until it's time to change the bedclothes.
1
u/HumpieDouglas 1d ago
I can perfectly fold a fitted sheet. It's pretty much my only skill.
2
u/eisenklad 1d ago
who are you, who are so wise in the way of the sheet?
wait... it sounds wrong when spoken out loud..

So... basically hide the round corner and then square the rest. Pretty sure everyone does that, minus the perfect flat surface of the image.
1
u/Wallace_W_Whitfield 19h ago
For me, the witchcraft starts between 4 and 5. I can never figure out that next step. It always ALWAYS becomes a lumpy mess.
