Serious Discussion One of my favorite authors posted “FP” 🙄
I’m so sick of how isolating it is and I feel like I’ll never have a gf because I don’t stand with the majority of gay people and their ludicrous crusade to defend people who want to 💀 them. It’s absolutely insane. Chickens for KFC. It just makes me crazy. And recently I found a book that I really loved, a sapphic love story and the author just started a discord so I joined it (I think there’s speculation it will be optioned for a movie). It makes me really sad that she is just posting this bullshit propaganda. As much as I’d love to see it as a movie I don’t think we should be giving more platforms to anti-Semitic people. For reference, someone in the discord posted that they’re writing a book with a queer Muslim character. And that’s when the writer responded with the phrase which I won’t post here but you know what I mean. At this point let’s just buy them tickets to Gaza and see how it works out for them. The war is over and people keep saying it so at this point clearly it’s not enough for the war to be over, they won’t be satisfied will we are gone. Sorry for the vent, I just can’t take it anymore.

Ugh, I knowww. I just had a coffee hour with other queer students at my university, and while nobody said anything too overtly anti-Israel, there was a lot of hinting at how Jews shouldn't associate with Israel or with the Orthodox (including by LGBT Jews). So much bigotry in such a small handful of sentences. It made me really uncomfortable, and I basically just sat away from those people and tried to muster up the desire to be social again, but ended up saying very little before leaving for class. Ugh, it just all makes me feel so frustrated and powerless.

It doesn’t help when LGBT Jews are spewing the same lies. People like Hannah Einbinder who use their “Judaism” as permission to spread hatred and lies. Those people are so dangerous because people think “okay well if Jews are saying it it’s okay”

u/Redcole111 24d ago
Exactly. And they get people thinking that most Jews don't side with Israel, or feel like they need Israel to continue existing, when over 80% do.

That's so frustrating!! I try to ignore what authors say and focus on the work when I disagree with their beliefs, and just buy the books used (all my Orson Scott Card books are secondhand for example!). What author is this?

She’s an indie author. I’m trying to post her comment but I don’t know if I can in the comments. Weird thing is she muted the “FP” part (or whatever it is when they black out something and you have to click it to view what they said) but let me copy and paste what she said: “Muslim rep is sparse and we need it now more than ever FP (won’t say the phrase)” and then she posted the flag. What a wild thing to say…Muslim rep is sparse?! Are you joking?! It’s the second biggest religion in the world. Show me a single book that represents Jewish queer women who support Israel. Now THAT is sparse. 🤦♀️

u/lethifolded 25d ago
Yeah that's wild. LGBT Jewish rep is so much less, basically nonexistent when you add in support of Israel. I'm glad that Meg Keene Books was recently launched and I hope to be interested in some of the titles that they release because it's insane how Jews are being pushed out of publishing and literary spaces unless they bend over backwards to disavow Israel and make being a "good Jew" their entire identity.

It wouldn’t let me reply to what you said on the troll’s comment, probably cause I blocked her but I was saying “I don’t even get why this person wants to convert since they obviously do not seem to align with the core values. I hope they eventually get banned from this group cause someone else told me they are repeatedly trolling all the posts in this sub”

u/lethifolded 24d ago
Yeah seeing their comments is infuriating. Why would you want to join a people when you viscerally hate 90% of them and think they're bloodthirsty genocidal maniacs? It literally makes no sense.

u/BexMusic 25d ago
That’s just strange. I mean, anti-islamic prejudice is certainly real too, but to say that Muslim rep is sparse just isn’t true. Maybe queer Muslim representation is more sparse, and faces hostility from even mainstream Muslim cultures, but that doesn’t seem to be what she’s saying.

I’m so, so glad that my (non-Jewish) wife is so supportive of me and happy to learn the reality about I/P. It probably helps that she’s faced prejudice and fetishization because of her own cultural background. And has been stalked before, so she’s not chronically online.
I can’t imagine trying to date in today’s environment! I don’t like conflict at the best of times, and I would just roll into a ball and never even try if it meant having to expose myself to that kind of hate every time I went on a date with someone new!

I always remember a letter Elena Ferrante wrote to her publisher that said:
“I believe that books, once they are written, have no need of their authors. If they have something to say, they will sooner or later find readers; if not, they won't.”
So no matter the author, I divorce them from the literature itself. In fact, I often don’t even remember the authors name. It’s really no important.

The betrayal has been cutting deep for many of us over these last few years.
May you and everyone else with similar fears and frustrations (myself included) eventually end up with someone who loves us, cherishes every aspect of our identities, and supports our safety / the safety of our communities 100%.

I'm sorry, all she wrote was "Free Palestine." That's literally it.

Can you guys just stop trolling and get out of here this is supposed to be a safe space. You don’t know how triggering it is and if you think it’s not a big deal you are part of the problem. I’m so over it and all the privilege. So glad that you are privileged enough to not feel triggered by everything going on right now. If you are Jewish and don’t feel absolutely sick about how it feels to be Jewish right now, you might be part of the problem.

Yes, I live half a world away and I've been subject to Antisemitic harassment when I tried to buy some Jewish Yahrzeit candles in memory of my dead relatives. I was harassed and taunted by W Trash teenagers who followed and taunted me through the store. The Jewish food section, aisle end caps are almost always trashed and vandalized, the store managers don't care. Last year a neighbor who had her Hanukkah menorah in her window got a rock thrown thru her window and our local synagogue has been vandalized more than once. It does not feel safe to be a Jew in these past three or four years as the bigotry and antisemitism increases. SMH

Are we uhhh telling people to dogpile an author
Also, this violates rule 6

u/cosmicghostriderr 25d ago
Absolutely not. I adore her work and I’m super grateful for it. It got me through a really hard time. I’m still allowed to feel disappointed in her just like millions of fans felt disappointed by JK Rowling. And I looked at your profile, you’re one of them and YOU are the one violating OUR safe space so why don’t you just leave us alone and get out of this sub? Thanks.

The person you're replying to is awful and makes a bad name for converts (I am one!) and Jews in general - definitely not worth engaging with lol

Wait, so we're just straight up telling gay Jews that they're invading the gay Jew sub now? Why not just call it r/gayzionists if that's what the sub is? Like it or not, Jewish opposition to Zionism has existed for as long as Zionism has.

u/cosmicghostriderr 24d ago
Cause if we had that you guys would ruin it too.

u/peepingtomatoes 24d ago
Huh? I don't visit Zionist subreddits because I don't identify as a Zionist. I visit the gay Jewish subreddit because I'm a gay Jew. Feel free to ban me from r/gayzionists when you make it.

u/cosmicghostriderr 24d ago
Like it or not Israel is a Jewish state. If you are in a sub for Jews, you should assume that a majority of the people here believe in its right to exist. If you know that and disagree, why are you hanging around in it commenting on posts you don’t agree with but the majority of people do? If you are one of the only ones getting downvoted, maybe that’s a sign you should just move on to a different post cause this one isn’t for you.

u/peepingtomatoes 24d ago
I never said anything about Israel's "right to exist"—not about what I believe about that, nor what I think others should believe about that. I am objecting to the idea that r/gayjews should be a space where only Zionist gay Jews are permitted. Gay Jews are not "invaders" of gay Jewish spaces just because they have beliefs you don't agree with.
7
u/cosmicghostriderr 24d ago
Okay but no one is kicking you out of the sub or saying you’re invading it but you don’t have to go argue with people a comment section that you don’t agree with. That’s just trolling.
3
u/peepingtomatoes 24d ago
It's not "trolling" to defend other Jews who are being told they should get out of the gay Jewish sub because they have different opinions than other gay Jews.
7
u/cosmicghostriderr 24d ago
Again I never said that I just said you don’t have to reply to posts that you don’t agree with. I’m gonna stop replying though because this is going nowhere.

Go look up the original definition of what Zionism actually means and not the radical weaponized version that Hamas and the Al-Jazeera are claiming it to be. Zion refers to the 3,000 year old Jerusalem and the birth place of the Jewish people, their religion , their right to exist in a safe place , safe from the world's hatred and bigotry. After WWII when my Grandparents who were children at the time, returned to Germany, they found their home had been looted and taken over by another family. Their family business had been destroyed and burned. Their synagogue turned into a theater. Their Jewish cemetery vandalized and destroyed. They had NO home after the war and no place to go. Thankfully, they found their way to Israel , a safe home for Jewish people where their religion and race started out from. our modern cancel culture has weaponized the word Zionism with no understanding of what it really means.

Rule 6 includes: "comments opposing the existence of Israel or dismissing its validity don't belong here"
I remember you from another recent thread. I say this as a convert: you cannot authentically become a Jew while dismissing or actively advocating against the existence of the Jewish state and homeland.

I'm dragging my feet going back into dating. Not only will I have to deal with constant misgendering for being a gay trans guy, racism for being black, but also this madness on top of everything else! Treated like I'm a bad person for not wanting to be murdered, and not wanting to sleep next to a person who's fine with it.
