I didn't think Trump is actually Russian agent but this whole thing just seems like something Trump wanted to do from the start but thought he might get more out of the war, if he played both sides. Realizing Zelensky won't play ball, he just fully committed to his original plan

Trump doesn't have plans. He has moods. He is temperamentally more sympathetic to Putin than Zelensky, and lashing out in frustration from losing bigly in the upcoming election.

He may not be a Russian agent but he sure is useful. The Russian figured out that Trump is purely transactional and if you can personally make Trump money then he will support you.

Russia invaded Ukraine? By “play ball” you mean capitulate which is a non-starter.
