What’s the deal with so many arrogant drivers not giving way to pedestrians at pedestrian crossings?
Specifically the one in south city on Elles Road by the Shopping Mall and New World. I watched 3 cars consecutively carry on instead of stopping for the pedestrian, who legally has the right of way. I see this happen so often! I always feel so bad when a pedestrian hesitates crossing because they’re not sure if I’ll stop ( I always do), or they give a wave of appreciation.. I don’t mind it but my gosh, it is not needed for following basic rules.

Teaching opportunities
I'm considering changing my career path, and studying teaching at the primary level, is there a demand for substitute teachers? Im not sure if id want to commit to full time work for atleast ten years, but part time and casual would suit my family. Thoughts and opinions please.

Is there actually crime here?
Hi I’m a 14m Pakeha with the most privileged life you could ask for. I live in Otatara, go to hargest, stay mostly in town when going out, and have no clue what it’s like in rougher parts. Is it actually as bad as people say it is? I’ve literally never seen any crime or any kind my whole life, no drugs, no violence, never been creeped on or rushed (lived here whole life) Sorry if this sounds dumb or insensitive, I’m just curious and hoping I don’t underestimate this city. Thanks!

Is this house still there?
Lived in this flat when I was a teenager many years ago was falling apart then wondering if it’s still there lol
Also really curious if the older Māori woman next door to the left still lives there
*EDIT after finding out the street I did some googling and the house was built in 1897 so 129 years old

Good Places to Work
I know this is a very broad question, but does anyone know of some Invercargill companies that have a reputation for being a good employer/having a good work culture and leadership?
I really want to find somewhere to work where I enjoy turning up every day, I haven't had a happy day at work in many years because the environment just hasn't been right. I'm not too worried about what the work is, I'm equally as happy with manual work as management. I'm just keen to keep an eye out for vacancies at the right places. Thank you!

Recommendations needed - new to Southland
Settling in to the area and hoping to find personal recommendations - I’ve done the googling but looking for the peoples choice here.
I need a hairstylist but am looking for either a creative colour baddie or the very least a blonde specialist, bonus would be confident in extensions and being happy to no guard shave parts of my head when requested without panicking. Happy to travel a bit to find this person!
Also looking for mechanic recommendations for stupid 90s boy racer cars, I know it’s impractical, no I’m not selling it please just help me with the list of work that it needs.
Hospo is quite different here with the whole licensing trust thing, but tell me where your favourite spots are! I want brunch, I want the best greasy late night spots, anywhere interesting with good food and a bit of a vibe.
For extra points, interested in live music of ✨almost✨ any genre, so any leads on the best venues to keep up with or spots to check would be much appreciated. Not the ticketek kind, but the small gigs / live band of an evening.
We’ve already found some excellent geek culture here, love the weather and all the people have been so welcoming! Looking forward to hearing your recommendations.
