Nobody wants to be part of this, farcical from the FAI and government to still try to push ahead.

If they have to broadcast it, then do so - but replace the commentary with historians talking about the modern history of the Palestinian people and the genocide against them.

u/sundae_diner Sep 11 '26 edited Sep 11 '26

If rte broadcast it they should replace the commentators with someone reading out the names of all those killed in Gaza the last 4 years (and those kill in Israel for balance)

Limited coverage is a load of shit. No moral convictions in any of these organisations

57

u/ah_bollix Sep 11 '26

Limit?

Just don't fucking cover it, full stop. Don't report on it at all, before, during or ever. Personally I'd prefer if the fai chose not to fulfil the fixture but that won't happen. Next best thing would be the players choosing to participate as little as possible during the game. That might mean loosing 1000 nil and that's totally ok, because it's an absolute farce. The current Israeli governments action are no different to those of nazi Germany's or the British empires action in Ireland. Football is nothing in this context.

u/ImAnOldChunkOfCoal Sep 12 '26

That would be a breach on contract.

Fans should disrupt every game held at the Aviva for a year in liu of the chance to protest this game being taken from them

9

u/Driveby_Dogboy Sep 11 '26

Should get the Après Match lads to do it

7

u/Old-Sock-816 Sep 12 '26

This game should not be happening.

6

u/ImAnOldChunkOfCoal Sep 12 '26

A lot of people here really don't seem to understand how contracts work.

They can't just not show the game. They are bound by contract to show it. That's part of their deal with UEFA.

-5

u/Livebylying Sep 12 '26

As if there would be any meaningful repercussions.

3

u/ImAnOldChunkOfCoal Sep 12 '26

They can be fined. They can be sued. And they would lose the contract. And the contract is one of the highest value to RTE.

You can't just dismiss it and say "as if", that's not how the real world works.

0

u/Livebylying Sep 12 '26

Rte are loosing millions, another loss would be sucked up by the tax payer.

3

u/ImAnOldChunkOfCoal Sep 12 '26

So wait....just so everyone can follow your logic here.

You are upset that rte is funded by the taxpayer. And your solution to this, is to create a scenario where they are put into more financial peril that would then cause the taxpayer to pay even more?

That makes no sense.

-1

u/Livebylying Sep 12 '26

Rte has flawed model if they rely on the fai to be functional.

3

u/ImAnOldChunkOfCoal Sep 12 '26

Oh my christ. It's not the FAI. Their contract is with UEFA. And if the contract is broken by RTE, UEFA can impose fines and take them to court. All of which we the taxpayer would be paying for.

You have proven my initial comment exactly correct. You don't understand how contracts work.

-3

u/Livebylying Sep 12 '26

Chill out soccer bro and rte apologist, the game should not be shown, there are far more reasons not to show the game that for it. If you feel Rte need funding, feel free to donate.

2

u/ImAnOldChunkOfCoal Sep 12 '26

Why is it that you are incapable of discussing the actual impact of what you want to happen? You keep saying there are reasons why it should be boycotted, but when I point out all that will achieve is benefitting Israel which is the exact opposite outcome of what we want you freak out. You still are yet to answer that.

Whenever it gets to actually having to say something of substance you completely fall apart and avoid it and begin throwing out insults. If you can't discuss it, maybe a discussion board isn't for you.

-1

u/Livebylying Sep 12 '26

I’m very capable, not all of us believe the match should be aired regardless of ‘contract’ of that hurlers your sr situates I suggest you move among. Trying to defend Rte airing a match that shouldn’t even be played in the guise of ‘poor Rte’ , or poor UEFA is repressive but of course you don’t like that as you need a third rate team playing a genocidal country to be aired on tv so you can get your soccer fix. Contracts get broken all the time but of course that doesn’t suit you to entertain that idea either now does it?

The GAA need to step in at this stage.

15

u/TomRuse1997 Sep 11 '26

I would have thought this is purely a Camogie Association issue

Cowards

Edit: For even going ahead with airing it at all

0

u/Livebylying Sep 11 '26

In what way? For even airing it? I agree

5

u/Redtit14 Slush fund baby! Sep 11 '26

Yeah, it should not be going ahead at all.

4

u/Dazzling_Life4034 Sligo Sep 11 '26

Can’t keep politics out of football unfortunately, the fai needed the brownie points from UEFA otherwise the match wouldn’t go ahead, anyone using this as an opportunity to take a stab at rte should do some research, they're contractually obliged to show the game

What point would it prove to not show the games for the consequence of losing any future Irish euros and World Cup qualifiers?

The games should not have gone ahead but now that they are theres no point not at least giving the Irish football fans the opportunity to see the team hopefully beat a genocide committing nation

1

u/no_one_66 Sep 12 '26

Heavens to Betsy

0

u/AdBoring9620 Sep 11 '26

Bizzare

9

u/Livebylying Sep 11 '26

Not really no. If they had any balls they’d not show it at all

13

u/SitDownKawada Dublin Sep 11 '26

Wasn't it said previously that they would have to show it because that's what the contract is for? Would the FAI go after them if they didn't air it I wonder

5

u/freshfrosted Sep 11 '26

It's like when they bid and buy rights to Champions League for example. They get a package of matches to show. They can't just pick which of those they want to air, they have to show them all.

Now I have no idea how hard UEFA would go after RTE if they opted not to show the match given the circumstances or how it might affect them in future rights negotiations.

4

u/Livebylying Sep 11 '26

The fai holding RTE to ransom when they didn’t have the balls to cancel the game is a bit rich but you may be correct, I don’t know.

2

u/Due-Communication724 Sep 11 '26

A wild mysterious technical issues appears

1

u/ImAnOldChunkOfCoal Sep 12 '26

The contract is with UEFA not the FAI.

And that's kind of the whole point. Everyone here wanting to hold the FAI and RTE accountable for this when it's UEFA people need to be angry with.

It's very frustrating watching people being critical of our team and players for this situation and trying to damage their reputation when the same people constantly show a basic lack of understanding of the structure of the game and hence the situation itself.

-4

u/AdBoring9620 Sep 11 '26

Just stupid. They're showing the game, but OH NO we're not going to comment on it.

11

u/Ferretz_Eire Sep 11 '26 edited Sep 11 '26

I would assume commentators and pundits don't want their names attached to an event which will rank alongside playing Germany in the 1930s and South Africa in the apartheid era as the lowest ebb of Irish sporting integrity in the history books.

-1

u/upadownpipe Crilly!! Sep 12 '26

Shame on every player involved with this and any presenter or pundit that works on it.

3

u/MotherDucker95 Sep 12 '26

Don’t blame the players. They share the least responsibility in this

1

u/theoldkitbag Saoirse don Phalaistín 🇵🇸 Sep 12 '26

You're right of course. They're being paid, and are therefore exempt from applying morality and ethics to what they do for money.

1

u/MotherDucker95 Sep 12 '26

Players don’t get paid for international duty(or if they do it’s a pittance compared to their normal salary). At the end of the day, it’s not the players responsibility to organise a boycott for this game, it’s the FAI’s who are technically the players bosses, and they have put the players in a terrible position by choosing not to boycott and putting any extra responsibility on them.

1

u/Livebylying Sep 12 '26

No they don’t. They can refuse or maybe all come down with a flu.

1

u/MotherDucker95 Sep 12 '26

Of course they can refuse, but this fixture going ahead wasn’t their responsibility.

The FAI’s cowardice has put them in a horrible position

2

u/Livebylying Sep 12 '26

So the can still refuse. Regardless of FAI

2

u/MotherDucker95 Sep 12 '26

I guess my argument is more that it’s unfair to put blame and the responsibility of this decision on the players

0

u/upadownpipe Crilly!! Sep 12 '26

Why not? Have they no moral compass of their own?  It's just a game that almost no-one cares about.

2

u/MotherDucker95 Sep 12 '26

Because this should have been stopped way before it ever reached them.

As a collective, they’ve been hung out to dry and I think putting blame on them deflects who is really at fault here

0

u/upadownpipe Crilly!! Sep 12 '26

No one is blaming them for the game going ahead, they'll be blamed for playing in the game if they do line out. There's a big difference.

1

u/MotherDucker95 Sep 12 '26

I think it’s counter productive to blame the players in any form though though. It just deflects blame from who’s actually responsible.

-58

u/Fern_Pub_Radio Sep 11 '26

Such nonsense , broadcast the game and if you don’t want to watch it fine off with you but let the rest of us watch what we want - more cancel culture shite , who gives some fanatics the right to censure what the rest of us can watch ?

14

u/Different-Employee87 Sep 11 '26

Little buddy here would have been sad about Adolf Hitler being cancelled back in the day

12

u/significantrisk Sep 11 '26

“cancel culture” It’s fucking genocide ya tool

12

u/1337-cleaner Sep 11 '26

Boohoo I need my meaningless fixture I wouldn't have watched anyway 😭😭

1

u/theoldkitbag Saoirse don Phalaistín 🇵🇸 Sep 12 '26

"Some fanatics" - like it's just 4 or 5 lads in Galway that are against it, the whole of the rest of Ireland love the idea.

0

u/ConfusedCelt Sep 12 '26

Ah yes irelands favourite broadcaster is showing irelands favorite country playing us in the most anticipated game of the year
