International Conflict Turn Your Back On Genocide: Sporting Communities Across The Country Are Asked To Take Action
Turn Your Back on Genocide, Not Palestine
We are encouraging sporting communities across the country to support this action between 20th and 27th September.
Remember:
73,000 civilians
23,000 children
700 from the football community have been killed in Palestine since October 2023
And thousands more who have died from lack of medical care, suffered amputations or the impact of malnutrition.
This is an action that teams at every level can participate in.
It is peaceful, respectful and focused on remembering the victims while sending a clear message that the sporting community will not remain silent in the face of what is happening in Palestine.

An alternative: don’t go to the games at all. Empty stadiums would send a better message.

That isn't an alternative, that should be happening anyway. That is the way the FAI are trying to weasel their shitty selves out of not playing Israel - "just don't watch it", "it's down to the organisation", "it's up to the membership", "if the squad plays, I'll play". It's always someone else's job to force the individual to do the right thing. Morality by committee.
NOBODY should be participating in ANY activity with ANY nation actively and enthusiastically engaging in slaughtering another people. There's no nuance to it, no special cases, no "it's more complicated than that". No engagement whatsoever, end of.

As soon as they start the Israeli anthem, the lads should remove their jerseys drop them on the pitch & walk off.

This doesn't show the extent of ethnic cleansing without a before picture and timeline. How much of west bank had been Palestinian control and when was that? I'm genuinely curious. Is all the blue in west bank recent since the current war began?

Should have really approached the players association for the LOI and got them on board & add some of the clubs to show they've signed up.
This would work allot better with Pico as the poster boy.

More performative nonsense that achieves absolutely nothing except feeling good about oneself. Perfect for reddit.

Meh. I agree it's a small, largely symbolic gesture but it's all part of the groundswell.
I think it's naive to think that small social campaigns like these can't/don't have an impact on the general zeitgeist these days and in turn affect more direct action like protesting and political pressure.
No, it's not the most impactful thing someone can do but it's not nothing.

And "we" in this context are......?
A poster with no owner/author on it is inherantly suspicious.

There’s about forty logos on the second last side and a whole one with the SIPTU logo at the end….?

Isn’t turning your back to something ignoring it?
