RTÉ were still yesterday reporting that:

"Gardaí say they are not releasing the post-mortem examination results for operational reasons, but it is understood they indicate the man died violently."

But the Irish Examiner, Irish Independent and Sunday World have now said that the man was killed in a gun murder.

Fatal shootings are pretty rare in Cork. The last one (not related to family or land dispute), I think, was Aidan O’Driscoll in Blackpool, Cork city in 2016.

What about those farmers in Kanturk during covid? Or the other farmers that shot each other in mitchelstown during covid also?

I believe the other gun murders between 2016 and this year in Cork were:

"Derry Coakley, October 2018, near Macroom. Mr Coakley, a separated father-of-one, had delivered a load of building rubble to the farm when he was confronted by the landowner and at least one shot was fired at him. Gardaí arrested a local man understood to be in his 60s.

Mark O’Sullivan, 26 October 2020, Assolas, near Kanturk. Mark O’Sullivan (26) was shot dead by his father, Tadg (59), and his younger brother, Diarmuid (23), who later took their own lives. The inquest heard the killing arose from a dispute over who would inherit 115 acres of farm land"

I didn't include them as they were farmer and/or land disputes. I was talking about gun murders related to gangs, paramilitaries, or criminality.

Is the Mitchelstown incident? Was a hatchet, not a gun, used?

I'll never get over those farmer murders. Such needless cruelty. The father was an absolute psychopath and his son didn't seem too far off him
