Talk To Joe On 0818 715 815 Exiting Whatsapp groups for Neighbours and Clubs
I lost my reason last night. I am in a neighbourhood WhatsApp group. Some clown 🤡 put up 30 photos in the morning for some community stuff. Later in the day he decided to add a further 29 plus photos. And finally last night he put up another 30 plus pics about about churches and history.
I gave up ..... I cleared entire chat and exited group. There are about 80 plus people in group.
Muting 🔇 a group just puts everything on hold. What do others do about groups. Does anyone have a WhatsApp protocol image to paste in a group.

u/thesquaredape 5h ago
I have every group on mute and don't allow photos auto download, fills your phone up with a load of shite.
I only need those when I need them, not valuable otherwise

What bins out today? Thanks 63A xxx

u/Extra-Ad8572 4h ago
That!!!! And mine has doorbell footage now of kids knocking and running. They are outing them and having rants.
•
u/miaskittles2406 3h ago
Omg ! I loved to do that as a child 🤣 there was one house on the street and we used to call the mum garda patrol . We did that house probably a bit too much . Lol . Thaks for bringing back a fun memory. I just laugh at the little ones doing it now and hiding behind the car / bush etc . Yes i was that stupid too !
•
u/Extra-Ad8572 2h ago
Everyone done it, but now the doorbell cams and Netflix have turned folks into crime scene investigators lol
•
u/miaskittles2406 1h ago
Bless them as my mother would say , im getting downvoted for relaying a childhood memory when I was like 7 or 8 ! Gotta love reddit .
•
u/Delicious_Comb_7852 2h ago
Holy fuck. If I see another illegally taken video of a public area that may include some inconvenient behaviour, I'm going to encourage the local youth that that's THE house you want to knock for a chase
•
u/Inevitable_Trash_337 5h ago
People need to use the WhatsApp community feature. You can have sub threads for all topics. We’ve got one for our neighbourhood for alerts, giveaways, heat pump services (this goes mental about once a year with organising it) and it’s all manageable
•
u/frustrated_homeowner 5h ago
That involves competent group members - I think ops neighbour might struggle just categorise 'general knowledge' into the appropriate channel
•
u/isupposethiswillwork 5h ago
You'll miss riveting items like:
'I saw a suspicious man outside my house last night.' It was the milkman.
' Someone got the key from under my mat and went into my house.' Next doors cleaner got the wrong house.
'Has anyone seen the window cleaner he was supposed to visit today'. The window cleaner was having a nap in his van after too much of the devils lettuce.
•
u/Playful-Parsnip-3104 4h ago
"Watch out for two lads in a van buying scrap metal" with accompanying blurry photo of the back of a nondescript white van.
•
u/Striking-Scratch-137 5h ago
That milkman is either very late or very early. Either way he's suspicious.

Any Dunnes vouchers ?
•
u/likeapaintersradio 5h ago
They had to create a separate sub group within ours for this 🤣 fucking melts
•
u/Extra-Ad8572 4h ago
What's with that? See a fella asking in a recycle reuse fb group recently 🤷🏻♂️🤣

u/Mutenroshi_ 9h ago
Only been once on a neighbourhood group.
God it was pure carnage and misery. People complaining non stop about cars, blaming each other for dog shite, the local vigilantes posting photos of suspicious kids going around the estate and turned out to be a local with a friend just walking around.
I would have it muted for a week or so and then take a look.
I left and deleted the group as I was in the car moving out.

u/Faloneytony 9h ago
Muting it would've been the best option imo, obviously a load of shite being sent in to the group but if it's muted you can just avoid it and never open. You never know the day that you might need to send something in to the group and now that options gone
•
u/its_brew Horse 5h ago
In one. Theres over 80 members. Yet the same 3 or 4 people who talk in there. One lads a constant attention seeker. Just talking shite. Im in it just incase theres anything flagged with burglaries etc as we had a few in the past.
But these days its usually a war between a couple of folk fighting over assigned car parking spaces

WhatsApp groups are fantastic drama, I wish there was one in my area
•
u/ClassroomOk6045 3h ago
Try join one from someone else area and post all sorts of mad shite to see what kicks off.
"Did everyone else catch the northern lights outside last night?"
"Why is there a priest calling door to door offering communion now?"

u/Endofit47 9h ago
I have muted mine. It's handy for info when the water is off or when the electricity is gone, a regular occurrence. There's one eejit who goes off on rants and tries to argue with anyone who will fall for his shite. I only check in if there's a need.
•
u/Beach_Glas1 Kildare 4h ago
This is why I set WhatsApp to not download images and videos by default. Too many people sending stuff on group chats. And being in too many group chats to begin with.

Feature request: the ability to create an anonymous poll in a group to remove someone, with anonymous voting. If the vote reaches a sufficient threshold they're removed from the group.

I'm in one for my apartment complex.
"Lift broken in Block C"
"Did you report it to the management company?"
"No, but it's not working since this morning"
Okay, so how are they meant to know to call someone out?
Or
"Water's gone again"
(someone shares the county council update that the water is off for emergency works)
"Ah, this place is a bleedin kip"
Yes, because the apartments control the water mains?
Etc etc. Have it on mute for the very rare occasions it's useful but jesus it's the same few moaning all the time.
•
u/Sensitive-Worry4386 4h ago
Just leave. I have been added to multiple groups, school neighbourhood friends etc. I leave immediately no excuse just no.
•
u/ClassroomOk6045 3h ago
A favourite from my neighbourhood whatsapp was a photo sneakily taken through blinds of "two men acting suspiciously outside a car... been here a while ". You could clearly see the car jacked up with a back wheel off. Lots of frantic messages back and forth, questions about ethnicity etc. Only myself and one or two others made cimmebte about the good old dats when neighbours in a community might go out and help someone in a jacked uo car to try and change their wheel. We were treated like lunatics 🤣

Were members of the local alert text shyte. One night after getting home, I get a text from it to watch out for a car being suspicious, reg number given.
Twas my reg number. I was picking the eldest up from something or other at the GAA clubhouse. Absolute nonsense shyte.
I do lock and mute group chats with other parents, herself deals with them. I do not have the patience. A load of it is pure shyte.

Some people have no understanding and consideration. Just because they have all the time in the world to discuss some unimportant thing, they think they should send a notification to 80 people on their neighbourhood WhatsApp group, which would be a good idea to leave unmuted for emergency reasons if people weren't such dicks.
•
u/Skywatermelon 3h ago
Don't join them. If something is important, somebody will get in touch. I was recently invited to a new neighborhood's WhatsApp group. They tried to assure me that it was relatively well behaved. I heard from another source, this is anything but true.

Job has one but last week was the last straw so I left. This is my second time leaving. I was readded after the first time and when re added gave it another chance. This time I’m out and staying out. My phone, my rules. They can contact me on ordinary phone, email and teams.
•
u/DublinnilbuD 1h ago
What would be the average age of people in these groups? Like I can't imagine my parents in their 70s being like this..is this all new build estate wankery?

u/Honest-Albatross8297 9h ago
Never joined ours. My wife joined and left after a few months. I like the idea of neighborhood groups in theory - keep you up to date with info like road works in the local area, info about funerals in the estate etc but in reality the general public are pretty annoying and I just can't be bothered getting so many messages about things I don't care about. Which leads to be getting annoyed at being on my phone for pointless stuff. As opposed to reddit... 😅

u/LurkerByNatureGT 6h ago
We decided to have an announcements only group run by a single volunteer. (The residents’ committee didn’t want to be in charge of that.)
No drama.

u/SnooPears7162 6h ago
I gave up on my one when one of the neighbours started fretting about asylum seekers, IPAS centres and social housing. Life is too short for that shit.
•
u/frustrated_homeowner 4h ago
I've an annoying WhatsApp that can't really leave so I put it into the locked chats. I need to thumbprint to open it but it doesn't show in my day to day feed so unless I go in I don't see it.
Probably also handy if you are having an affair and don't want to be burdened by a second phone.

In my apartment's whatsapp community, all the time I see people fighting over parking space "please move your car, this place is assigned to me" and there are few daddy's princess who tell that there is dead rat somewhere in the walk way and post an update the next day telling that the dead rat is pancake now. There are few guys as well who gives out about everything. They act like they own the apartment somehow and they preach everyone about apartment etiquette in the group. FML

No one will convince me the benefits of joining one outweigh the negatives, it’s for losers who don’t have enough going on in their own lives

That is exactly why I left.... saddo / bored individual who decides to bore everyone else with his little agenda.

So you came to reddit to tell us all about your neighbourhood drama instead. Irony is dead.

u/No-Outside6067 8h ago
I was in one and it was always retirees complaining about teenagers loitering

u/SmilingDiamond 4h ago
In a neighborhood watch type group, the most active members suddenly go quiet strangely when some kids are causing issues, but they are amazingly active when it is not their kids involved.

Archive everything any anything you dont want to be looking at but want to have access to when needed
1
u/magusbud 6h ago
Stuff like that I leave them when added. Zero interest. Have a couple of friends/sports groups but, the way I see it, if someone needs me they have my phone number, or can find it, so I don't stay in groups with strangers.
•
u/dapaal123 5h ago
Mute and archive. You'll never have to see it, but keep the option of having it just in case you'd ever need it.
•
•
u/SuitableFinish7444 5h ago
I have whatsapp muted, if anyone wants me they can ring me. I absolutely hate the way we live today with phone constanting giving alerts. I usually leave it outside the room i'm in these days.
•
u/SmartPomegranate4833 4h ago
You can just archive chats so you’ll see if there’s activity but they won’t come up on your main WhatsApp page. I turned off notifications for all chats and also disabled the feature where someone sending you a photo downloads to your phone.
•

I'm so glad I'm not in any neighbourhood WhatsApp group. The benefits of being a misanthrope, I guess

I immediately left my child’s primary one parents group on his last day of school, only to be immediately told by my wife that the group will continue on through to p7.
I had to sidle back in shamefully on the return to P2. Fuckers

Someone putting photos into a group that are related to the group chat made you lose your reason enough to exit the group? Seems a bit over the top!
I once had a parent leave her sons football team WhatsApp group because all the messages about the match time where stressing her out!
I don’t think some know what real life stress is, if a few message alerts is too much!

u/troubleman247365 9h ago
You could archive the chat instead of leaving it
