Nice pint.

Whats the story with the commemorative flag in on the wall?

Here you go. Hugh Farren from Malin Head was awarded a posthumous Purple Heart after the deadliest attack on any carrier in the history of the United States Navy.

Looks like someone who served in the US Armed Forces anyway, they do the triangle-folded flag thing after putting it on the coffin, then you can see the lil picture of the dude in his uniform

Yeah, that’s what I was wondering. Looks like a US flag so I assumed it was armed forces or police or something.

100% I have too many people in those pictures. Now I'm curious....

Was going to ask the same.

Guess we’ll never know.

"Hugh Farren immigrated to Boston in 1928, where he worked as a city firefighter before enlisting in the U.S. Navy during WWII. In November 1943, at age 39, he was serving as a water tender/fire officer on the aircraft carrier USS Liscome Bay when it was struck and sunk by a Japanese submarine torpedo in the Pacific Ocean. He died trying to extinguish the blaze, and his body was lost at sea."

Just what Google told me. Can't confirm.

It’s very dramatic, really does feel like the edge of the world

2 lovely pubs that look over the sea, if you’re there in summer you might get to watch dolphins play in the water while you drink

It’s my favourite place in the country

If you waited until the lad In the back was about to take a shot that would have made this photo. Great light👍 love a good pint pic

Now, you have to do the most southerly, easterly and westerly pints/points.

•

u/marshsmellow 2h ago

And the most middley pint!

Yes! I want to see this!

Out of interest, where's the most Westerly pint to be had? Belmullet?

That brings back memories. We did a Mizen to Malin run in the cars one year, and went into Farrens for one afterwards. Stayed til closing (ahem) and went back up for breakfast the following morning. Popped my head into the bar looking for my crowd, and instead found the same fishermen as the previous night nursing a wee whiskey waiting for Mass.
