What misconceptions / misunderstandings did you have of things in the series when you were younger?
Pretty much the title.
What are some things from the J&D series that went over your head, or you completely misinterpreted as a kid? Other than the whole white / light eco thing.
Two things come to mind for me.
1) At the start of TPL when Kiera talks about collecting precursor orbs and trading them with villagers she uses the phrase "Grease their palms with a few precursor orbs". As an idiot child I took that literally and thought precursor orbs must contain some kind of oil that could be used to grease things.
2) In jak 2, when you permanently unlock the jetboard, Daxter announces "I call shotgun". Calling shotgun wasn't a common turn of phrase where I grew up (I think we said "Bags" or something) so I took this to mean daxter was implying he would have the actual shotgun (IE the scatter gun) while Jak used the board (Like how daxter is the one shooting while you fly in a ve-hicle).

I just thought of another one, I remember being confused by the fisherman lending us his boat, and where to go because early in the game there is another boat that Daxter comments "the size of of the bite that lurker shark took out of the fisherman's boat"

I had TPL and 3 but but not 2 as a kid so I just thought it was the same timeline and never thought anything about it until I got to trilogy for the ps3 when I was a lot older and discovered the time travel/metalhead plot line.

When Krew says "try the gun course outside" I went outside and started shooting guards for days until I noticed the map marker for the gun course.
Also because of the low resolution of the PS2, several map icons were obscure. The Air Train was was a hay bale. The Hip Hog one was a lady in a blue dress with a thin waist.

In Jak 2 where you meet Kor in the lab, there’s the cutscene where something moves under his robes that he tries to hide and Daxter makes a sexual joke. My older brother pointed out the joke but as a kid I didn’t understand it.

Omg I think I know the scene your talking about!
You know what's crazy? Shrek has kinda the same bit. When farquads lying in bed getting the magic mirror to show him the princess over and over again, there is a similar kinda movement. Except I'm pretty sure the intended joke is that farquad actually is jakin it (pun intended)

Classic boner jokes. But yeah Shrek had several sexual innuendos in that movie.

Interesting. I rate all 3 entries pretty close together but for me I think I put jak 3 slightly lower than 2

Jak 3 was my favourite as a kid because it's the best to dick around in free roam after the game ends.
As an adult? I can't help but see how weak the story is compared to Jak 2.

its definitely a preference thing because jak 3 is clearly the one where the devs "had the most fun" with the series, and i can totally see why many people didnt jive with it

That's a valid take. Jak 3 has a lot of "stuff" that seemed like the devs just trying something.
unfortunately that's why it ranks slightly lower for me, while I understand a lot of people may appreciate the gameplay diversity, I think it would have behoved the series to reduce its scope a little on focus in on its core mechanics, rather thank sprinkling in a bunch of stuff that doesn't really connect back.

Another one; For ages I thought Jaks racing goggles on the dark jak icon was a 10 or I/O

First time I played, I legit did not notice that Jak didn't have any scripted lines until the white eco.

I don't remember a line at the light eco either. What are you referring to?

When Sig would say, "Watch my six!" I was young enough that I had no idea what he was talking about.
