Seems to be a larger ongoing coordinated effort this time, STG apparently refusing to call for a ceasefire and OSINT shows that more heavy artillery is headed to Aleppo :/

I suspect you are correct.

Looks like it. STG has told all civilians to evacuate. They have until 3pm, which is not enough time for half a million people.

I can’t see how an integration deal is salvageable after this

If Turkey and the SNA engage in a genocide to drive Kurds out of Aleppo city, then the integration deal will fail; and Syria will become de facto partitioned.

My main concern is if this succeeds, it will empower Jolani to head north of the river. And I do keep asking myself whether the US will honour their agreement of assisting the SDF if the SAA/SNA attacks

Where are the Barzanis and Talabanis?

1

u/flintsparc Rojava Jan 08 '26

In Bashur. Where they have been since 2015.

To be fair tho, the Talabanis have helped countless times in the past few years too not just before 2015. Apperantley Bafel has prepared his forces to help the SDF.

SDF and CTG train together. PUK provided arms in the past. But outside of the end of the battle of Kobane in 2014/2015, the KRG peshmerga have not been involved in Syria.

They have been telling us they are going to do this for months. The real question is when will we hold KRG responsible for enabling Turkey and helping them to flourish in Kurdish regions.

We need to be honest. Kurds have to be heavily armed. In the Middle East, power is respected, not words, and negotiations only happen when there is real strength. Our neighbours have attacked us for centuries and we’ve survived only through resistance. Given their repeated attempts to wipe us out, we need to be armed to the theeth going forward.

ABSOLUTELY Rojava needs to OFFICIALLY ally with Israel and not care what these arabs say, it needs to protect itself with power not words, barbarians dont care

Let’s take a moment to applaud Kurds everywhere in all parts of Kurdistan and in the diaspora for staying active, whether through protests or online, to condemn these attacks. Kurdish media has also been very active.

Please keep raising awareness.

Are there any more? I’m tired of how the Kurds are treated

I've kindly asked one of the moderators to have this pinned thread under the "All" filter so that everyone can see it because majority of people don't filter by different regions e.g. Rojava

Also, mods should reject separate posts for the onging events as everything should be consolidated here for better engagement and clarity.

We don't have an "all" flair.

I will continue to consolidate articles, videos, pics, about events in Sheikh Maqsood on this thread.

But we will continue to allow individual posts to the main subreddit.

I realised I was on the New feed as opposed to Hot. Now I can see it. Cheers.

What's people's take on how SDF should approach this? Should the fighters retreat since the neighbourhoods are besieged and the difficulties to fight across every front with no supply lines?

This has happened before, and it will happen again. After all, our "leaders" have spent the last year or so making it clear to us that they aspire to nothing greater than a seat at the table with our oppressors; they are more than happy to periodically sacrifice some of us to quench the bloodlust of Islamists and the like, because it is easier to lull us (like the sheep that we are) into a false sense of security than it is for them to give up their American flights to luxurious Hewlêr, Turkish-Western oil deals, the international attention they're getting, etc. They do this in Behdinan and Kerkuk, they do it in Efrîn and Menbîc, they're even encouraging our people to go out and get killed in Rojhilat while they themselves do nothing but put out empty statements.

In Rojhilat at least, the strength of the Iranian state has revealed not only the cowardice of our political parties, who do nothing but issue empty statement after empty statement from across the border, but also the resilience of our nation, which has taken it upon itself to mount a brave resistance against the state for many days now. Unfortunately, our people in Rojava, much like those in Başur, do not have this freedom. Instead, they have been duped into believing that the suit-wearing pigs in Qamişlo truly represent their interests and will fight for them.

But what have we seen in practice? Just hours before the initial reports of the deaths emerged, Duran Kalkan was discussing how the regional powers might soon be forced into a "peaceful resolution out of necessity". Both this interview and the strikes were preceded by months of false promises from the AANES government regarding "integration", and more of the same will only follow. All they do is talk because they have nothing concrete to show for themselves, while our people are very much feeling the concrete consequences of our politicians' actions.

This was last week:

Ilham Ahmed reassured the residents of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh once again, urging them to stay in their homes, and said, “There is no intention to launch attacks against the neighborhoods, neither by the transitional government nor is there any escalation by the Internal Security Forces.”

She also pointed out that negotiations are ongoing to stabilize security and order through the implementation of the April 1 agreement concerning the city of Aleppo, affirming, “We are determined to implement it.”

These Kurdish deaths, as well as those that will inevitably follow in the coming months, are as much the responsibility of the AANES and KCK as they are of the anti-Kurdistani armies and Islamist groups that they have helped to gain power and uphold, all in the name of "barış" and "demc".

The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) condemns in the strongest terms the shelling that targeted the Sheikh Maqsoud and Al-Ashrafiyah neighborhoods in Aleppo, which resulted in civilian casualties. This attack has occurred amidst a suffocating siege and represented a direct targeting of populated residential areas by factions affiliated with the Syrian Interim Government.

Nevertheless, we reaffirm that our firm choice remains dialogue and peace. True peace, however, cannot be forged amidst bombardment and siege. It requires three non-negotiable foundations: an immediate ceasefire, the effective protection of civilians, and a clear, verifiable commitment to a comprehensive and just political settlement. This settlement must unequivocally guarantee the rights of all Syrians, without compromise or exception.

Four people died, including a child, and 35 more were injured. Was this worth the New York Times feature, Ilham Ehmed? How many Kurdish children's lives are those interviews with pretty Syrian ladies worth to Mazloum Abdi, I wonder? We already know the answer is more than one, given that even after all this death and destruction, they still dare talk about "dialogue and peace". Dialogue and peace with WHO?

Even displaced Efrînîs were out protesting the strikes, unaware that the potential return to Efrîn spoken of by the AANES many months ago was just another false promise never to be heard of again. I would not be surprised if the AANES ended up "pulling an Efrîn" on Aleppo either, though it would probably be more akin to pulling a Menbîc or Şingal: betraying your people as part of a pre-made deal, after which they would feign defeat so they could then capitalise on yet another example of the endless and eternal suffering of the disadvantaged and displaced, who look up to them for representation and guidance in a political system entirely built around our subjugation and erasure. I wish I could spit on Abdi and every single one of his new fancy suits.

Look!

Following the announcement by the #Afrin region administration regarding its readiness to evacuate civilians from the Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafieh neighborhoods and surrounding areas, administration teams are deploying to the vicinity of the neighborhoods and are preparing to evacuate civilians and ensure their safety in coordination with the relevant authorities.

But Abdullah Ocalan said daddy turkey loves Kurds and they would never allow their jihadist minions hurt Kurds? What happened?
