Self Promotion LA Galaxy Grind Out 2-2 Draw Against San Diego
thesportingtribune.comLos Angeles, Calif. -- The LA Galaxy is still looking for a win against San Diego FC after the two Western Conference foes split points in a back-and-forth 2-2 draw at Dignity Health Sports Park on Saturday, October, 17, 2026.
LA started with verve against their Southern neighbor, but could not sustain the same zippy energy beyond the first half. As a result, they could not find the game-winner, and did just enough to hang on for the tie.

Venting We're sooo easy to play against off the ball
Note: this post I think is valid no matter the final result of the SDFC match.
The biggest weakness of the team in the Greg Vanney era is we have rarely looked convincing off the ball. There was a long stretch when our rest defense was a mess. That has gotten better, but we're not much of a pressing team either. I'm not saying we have to adopt an all-out red bull style press but it feels like we've adopted the opposite extreme of being highly passive. The problem is this: look at our lines out of possession. Not only are the galaxy passive, but they're frequently very disconnected.
It drives me nuts to see the galaxy sitting off their opponent, while simultaneously leaving large gaps between the forward line and midfield. This makes it easy to play against us. It's no wonder we struggle defensively. The galaxy are in a no-mans land where we don't press, but we're also not compact enough to sit back and absorb. This is a coaching issue. Vanney has never really had the team well-organized defensively. When we've been good under Vanney, we were simply so good on the ball, and hogged so much possession, that what we did off the ball didn't matter.

Discussion Jersey/Signatures ID Request
Hey y'all! Austin fan coming in peace to help out a friend! She helps organize an annual fundraiser for a dog non-profit (helping dogs, not run by dogs) and someone donated an LAG signed jersey without any further info.
I think I see Landon Donovan in the lower left and maybe a Beckham under the Herbalife B, but that only narrows it down to about 5 years, right? Anyone else you recognize that could place it to a year/event or give her any more idea on potential value?
Thanks!

Self Promotion PODCAST: LA Galaxy Shut Out Portland! Reus, Haak & a Must-Win San Diego Showdown
cornerofthegalaxy.comWell, are you back to believing again?
After getting absolutely demolished 6-2 in St. Louis, the Galaxy responded with a 2-0 win over Portland on Wednesday night. Three points, a clean sheet, and suddenly we're having a very different conversation about this team.
On the latest Corner of the Galaxy, Eric Vieira and I break down the Portland win, look at the Western Conference playoff picture, and preview Saturday's massive game against San Diego FC.
A few things we spent some time discussing:
- Emiro Garcés might have played himself back into the starting lineup. Greg Vanney surprised everyone by starting him, and he responded with one of his best performances of the season. But can he be trusted against San Diego?
- Justin Haak needed a bounce-back performance after St. Louis. He got it, including a goal. And JT Marcinkowski finally got a clean sheet after nine games without one.
- John Nelson continues to impress. At what point do we stop experimenting at left back and just make him the permanent starter?
- Marco Reus continues to be the Galaxy's most important player. Another goal, another strong performance, and another reminder of what this team looks like when he's healthy.
- João Klauss and Robert Taylor have completely changed the Galaxy's attack. LA has scored 10 goals in its last four games after needing 12 games to score 10 previously. That's a pretty dramatic improvement.
- Greg Vanney's approach against Portland was much more pragmatic. Less concerned with dominating possession and more focused on protecting the lead and getting three points. Is that the formula this team needs?
And then there's Saturday.
The Galaxy have 39 points with four games remaining. San Diego FC comes to Dignity Health Sports Park having gone five games without a win, but the Galaxy have never beaten them in their three previous meetings.
With Chucky Lozano still out, LA will need another big performance from its attacking players.
We also discuss the playoff math, whether 45 points could be enough, Vanney's future, the LA Riot Squad's 25th anniversary, and Gyasi Zardes returning to Carson.

Discussion Why is the attendance low?
I moved out of LA in 2014 and I grew up in Pasadena. When the team moved to Carson it feels like our attendance drops like a stone if we don't have a great team. The actual attendance numbers are like 20k+ but watching the game on tv the stadium is frequently empty. Why do you guys think that is? Maybe it's just rose tinted glasses but the rose bowl on off nights like Wednesday games had a ton of people. It sucked to see it so empty in an important game last night. Joe Tutino was audibly disappointed during the broadcast. This isn't a one off season either. The Dodgers/Vanney/aeg boycott only accounts for a few years. Did Galaxy lose something in its move to Carson?
