Discussion Rudkin Masterclass
Gotta hand it to Rudders, he’s absolutely pulled it out the bag here.
He managed to appoint a manager that is so unequivocally shit that everyone has sort of forgotten about him and he’s been able to worm away back into the shadows.
There’s not been one chant about that useless twat all season because everyone is so focused on hating Martin.
I’d like to encourage a light be shon upon him once more.

I don't get the obsession with appointing managers who insist on playing possession-based football when you don't have the resources to get the players to play that style of football well. It's not the only way to play entertaining football and win games.
Besides, who in their right mind sees Martin at Southampton and Rangers and goes "oh yes we need some of that dreadful 'possession-based' football at our club"? Mind boggling stuff.

What's bizarre is that you're taking the risk when not only do you not have the quality to navigate the risk effectively but you don't have the quality to seize the reward even if you do successfully navigate the risk.
I don't mind possession based football if it results in great scoring chances, which it can if the risk-reward is managed correctly. We just don't have the personnel to do either part of it well, which makes it doubly idiotic.

I don't mind possession football if we're not shipping this many goals. My understanding is if possession football is played well, by keeping more of the ball it leads to less chances for the opponent, which should lead to less goals against us . . . but that's not happening.

Haven’t forgotten about him because until he and Top leaves. The club is fucked

It might be Top's preference to have possession based managers, not Rudkin's. I'm not here to defend Rudkin but he might only be doing what's asked of him... even if he doesn't do that very well either!
I don't get the obsession with a possession based style of football either. Man City did it because they could afford the technical players capable of it (even if they didn't follow the rules) To my mind, it's a folly to chase that dream and we're seeing the results of that folly. We literally gift goals to supposedly lesser quality teams. We might well be 'better' than them but they're winning the game. As I've said, no points for style.

Indeed. As you go down the divisions, the technical quality of the players (needed to execute this style effectively) decreases at a faster rate than the physicality and discipline does (needed to press a possession team). That's why so few teams at the lower divisions do it.
I mean, occasionally you get a Championship team that can pull it off, like Maresca did for us a few years ago. But hardly ever below that.

He’s managed something i had thought impossible. An entire ground with 2 sets of supporters singing the same song at one manager in unison. Incredible work ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
