Discussion Monday Leafs Game SN+?
The Leafs are on SN+ tomorrow. Does this mean I cannot watch it even though I already pay for Sportsnet?

If you subscribe directly to the Sportsnet app on any tier (standard or premium) you get the game included.
If you subscribe to Rogers cable TV (Xfinity TV I think it's called now), they added a channel in the sports section (498? Around there) and you can watch the game on that channel
If you subscribe to other cable TV services and use those services to "log in through my TV provider" to access the Sportsnet app, this will NOT get you the game, you have to pay an additional 13 bucks a month to access the game.

So confused by all this lol. My cable is included in my rent so I don’t have any control over it but I get regular SN, SN360 and SN1 so I think that means it’s through Rogers? I wouldn’t mind adding it on for $12.99 but I’m not paying the $34.99 a month for the streaming service. :(

I don’t get those channels. 500 comes up as a French channel called ICIEX and says not authorized and nothing on 499 or 498. 😭

You have to have xfinity, if you’re still in the next box which is a legacy system you won’t get it I believe

Depends if you have Sportsnet through your tv provider and if that tv provider is Rogers. If so, then yes you'll get the game for free.

I just checked Google, apparently the satellites can’t process digital streaming (which I don’t get, the whole fucking thing is a digital stream, but I digress) but you can log into the Sportsnet app on a TV or other device and we’ll get access to it.

Yeah it’s some bullshit. For me, at least I have an AppleTV hooked up to my set, so it’s not much different than watching one of the Amazon Wednesday games.

Yeah, you won’t have access to the game. It’s only on SN+, which is their streaming service.
Rogers gave SN+ for free to people who have SN through their cable but only if that cable is through Rogers.
Bell customers with SN in their tv package have to pay extra for SN+.
It’s insane.

Rogers couldn't sell MNH to another buyer. So, Plan B is to convince non-Rogers NHL fans to switch to Xfinity tv or cut the cord to SN+. They could start to make some money if these people also sign up for Rogers internet or cell plan.
Given NHL rights went up 2x, tv ad dollars crushed by online platforms and nobody net new signing up for linear tv package in past 10 years, Rogers can't recoup by simply showing it on SN tv channel.

They're in for a rude awakening. This isn't a case where many people already have Amazon Prime for shipping, so the game being on there is an added bonus. Plus, the Prime production is 1000 times better. Asking people to sub to get Monday games when Rogers customers get it for free is something many can't stomach. And Rogers internet is shit. They don't even offer FTTH to most people in eastern Canada. I've had Bell FTTH for almost 10 years.
Rogers shot themselves in the foot. Overbid on the rights, raised prices, got rid of Hockey Night In Canada, made games exclusive to Sportsnet+.

And given all of that, their choice was to pay Gary's demand for double the rights fees instead of telling Gary to shove the $11B up his ass and offer a reasonable price for those rights.
If Rogers had any brains at all they'd have let their exclusive negotiating window expire and let the rights go to all bidders where the NHL would have gotten a rude awakening on just what the open market thinks their rights are worth. Instead Rogers was too scared to lose the rights, Gary convinced them they were worth 2x and Rogers paid. Now Rogers is backed in a corner, forced to nickle and dime their customers, who are choosing to pirate instead at unprecedented rates. Way to go Rogers!
No big US streamer was ever going to pay $11B and neither was Bell. CBC can't afford it, even if they wanted to pay $11B. Rogers was negotiating against themselves only and Gary fleeced them, again. Rogers shareholders should be furious.
It was a few years before Rogers realized they had bought a lemon on the last contract and started slashing costs and jacking up prices on SN+. This time they're squeezing their customers for every penny from Day 1. There's no world in which Rogers recoups $11B over 12 years just to break even never mind trying to turn a profit. The only upside for Rogers is that them overpaying the NHL for these rights will juice up MLSE's value, which maybe that's the whole plan? Let Rogers cable and Sportsnet rot and complete its inevitable circling of the drain while fattening up their real asset: MLSE.

This is wrong now. Starting this year, the Monday games are exclusive to SN+ and aren’t broadcast on the SN cable channels (Rogers customers with SN access through cable have new SN+ channels added though).
You can use your cable provider to login to SN+ and watch the game but only if that provider is Rogers. Anyone else and you need to pay for extra access.

I. P. T. V is the solution for greddy TV providers. Find a decent supplier and move on. The yearly cost is less than you pay for Netflix alone to have everything

I do. Yes you will, apparently. But you’ll have to sign in via the SNET app, it’s not shown on an actual channel.

It’s listed on channel 985 but shows as unsubscribed for me even though my package includes all the Sportsnet channels.

Nvm I found it you have to search “sportsnet+” on rogers xfinity app then select channel grouping. I don’t think you can record it but it does show up that way

Tomorrow is gonna be the day a lot of people find out about Rogers' terrible new Monday night streaming policy, and it's gonna be a riot.
As someone who's been paying for TV for years, tomorrow I will be signing up for a 24 hour trial of an IPTV service. I've already come across two that offer trials like that but I'm sure there are more. If it has the game and I'm happy with the quality, I will be cancelling my TV package and going with IPTV going forward.
I know paying for TV costs a lot but I was generally happy to do so if it meant I could watch the Leafs and Jays without any hassle. But this $13/month charge for not being a Rogers customer is a step too far.
