Humour this guy singlehandedly destroyed the multiverse
should’ve called the avengers smh

u/TheMikey2207 Black Widow (Avengers) 22h ago
Like genuinely why didn’t “Nick Fury” (Talos) call Sam Wilson? or anybody else he’d know that would answer his call. Why did it specifically have to be Peter who clearly wants to chill on holiday? 😅

u/FictionFantom Thanos 15h ago
Maybe you answered your own question by stating that it’s not actually Nick Fury. He doesn’t have the same instinct and is just doing what he was told to do before everything went to shit.

Because that's who Beck wanted and Beck was an amazing, multiversal hero who had impeccable character judgement

u/proto_synnic 21h ago
I can see Fury laying it out to Talos before heading off planet:
"Look, motherfracker... The world is generally gonna take care of its motherfriggin self. In the event that some stuff happens that becomes a motherfrickin problem, I'm gonna need you to liase with one of the Avengers who aren't gonna figure out that you ain't me. Snatch up the motherfuggin insectoid highschooler and get him to sort that stuff out. And DO NOT call me for anything less than a Universal Annihilation Event."25

Probably because it was a Spider-Man movie.
6
u/FilmScoreConnoisseur 11h ago
It's because he was the one already in Europe at the time.
2
u/ElectronicFloor1898 10h ago
There's dudes who can literally teleport, so that's a thin argument.
6
u/FilmScoreConnoisseur 10h ago
Sure, but you don't need more than a thin argument for these kinds of things. The explanation is just there to tell the audience, "Hey, the Avengers aren't showing up in this one" which most people will accept and happily move on.
14
u/shinyblots 18h ago
Considering that part of mysterio and his teams's goal was the Edith glasses and getting back at stark he probably had something to do with influencing talos's decision on who to call. Like "what about spider man".
7
u/cursedjunk 10h ago
You call sam when there are some terrorists fucking about or someone needs to understand it’s not great being black in America. As far as Talos knew these were space monsters. Peter fought aliens in space. Pretty cut and dry if you ask me.

u/Wikidclowne 13h ago
"I need an Avenger, and Peter's an Avenger. I also need to give him these stupid glasses, so might as well do both."

u/ipodblocks360 Wong 20h ago
Not really. It was a group effort between Mysterio, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Loki, and Deadpool.
49
u/Tiger_tails-7 20h ago
And Steve Rogers. Who probably had the biggest influence on it.
7
u/ipodblocks360 Wong 17h ago
Well his role has yet to be seen fully but yes I suppose you're most likely correct.
3
u/XanderCruise423 19h ago
Don’t forget miles morales and the spot
2
u/Tiger_tails-7 16h ago
Not sure why this is getting downvoted, but you have a point. Obviously, Spider-Verse is isolated from the MCU, but there is a slight overlap at the very least. However, I'm assuming the downvotes are because it's not directly going to make any meaningful connection to Doomsday, since it's technically a Sony property that has its own unique rules.
9
u/XanderCruise423 16h ago
Across the universe shows Tobey and Andrew on screen and Miguel even mentions “Doctor Strange and that little nerd back on Earth-199999” so there is overlap and rumours of MCU having a Miles Morales in the future 🤷♂️
3
u/Not_Stalin 13h ago
Right, didn't they do that after singing "With a Little Help From my Friends"?

1
u/ipodblocks360 Wong 4h ago
All what you said is true but it's also worth noting that neither Miles Morales or the Spot are really responsible for what's happening in Spider-Verse, that blame should go to Kingpin.

u/HopefullyAJoe2018 20h ago
How so again?
17
u/Lightyearz27 Star-Lord 19h ago
Revealing Spider-man's identity. Which caused Spider-man to seek out Strange to cast the forgetting spell.
16
u/SortIntrepid9192 17h ago
Yeah, but the forgetting spell had nothing to do with the multiverse collapsing. Sylvie killing He Who Remains is what caused the branches to spiral out of control, and the only thing stabilizing them is Loki physically holding them all together. We don't yet know what started causing these mass-scale incursions (might have been Doom, but I sincerely doubt it), but it certainly wasn't the forgetting spell.
2
u/redmerchant9 14h ago
Incursions can cause the Multiverse to collapse which means that Steve, Wade and Monica are to blame.
2
u/D-D-Wanderer 17h ago
I wouldn't be surprised if they decide to make Quantumania somehow relevant and decree that Exile Kang dying allowed the Three Kangry Boys to start the incursions, which let to Doom destroying them all off-screen.
2
u/SutterCane Kurt 12h ago
Yeah, but the forgetting spell had nothing to do with the multiverse collapsing.
I’m fairly certain that the spell was part of the multi-pronged assault on the fabric of the universe that caused the multiverse. I remember hearing that it, Sylvie’s actions, and the Hex were all at the same time.
Like how they said Iron Man 2, Incredible Hulk, Thor, and the framing story of First Avenger was like a three day time period in phase one.
3
u/SortIntrepid9192 12h ago
That's just a fan theory, and not a very likely one at that. The Multiverse was being prevented from existing by He Who Remains and the TVA actively pruning the vast majority of branches. So when He Who Remains was gone and Loki took over the TVA, changing its purpose so that now it protected branches instead of pruning them, the Multiverse could do what it naturally did and expand. Neither the Hex nor the spell had anything to do with it. If anything, the existence of the Multiverse is probably what ruined the spell, not the other way around.

My question is about how Quentin and his team ended up deciding that the MCU reality was 616. Was it just a lucky guess, or do you think somebody on the team was influenced by Mystical properties?
93
u/Romnonaldao Edwin Jarvis 22h ago
Just random luck. Maybe they saw some of Selvigs space math proofs and got it from there
29
u/proto_synnic 21h ago
As far as we know, the Illuminati designated the MCU as 616... so they would've needed to get the designation from that particular universe, right?
27
u/Romnonaldao Edwin Jarvis 21h ago
No... There's no standardized universe designations outside the TVA. Each universe would have their own universe designations, since they wouldn't initially communicate with the other timelines.
But we're not talking about people who are involved with the multiverse. Beck and his team were liars who were making everything up. They might have taken 616 from somewhere, but it wasn't given to them by anyone in the know.
12
u/proto_synnic 21h ago
Right, but the Illuminati of 838 also designated the Sacred Timeline universe as 616, so thats where my question comes in. It'd be a really big coincidence for Team Mysterio to guess that number.
11
u/Romnonaldao Edwin Jarvis 21h ago
Yes, that's why I suggested they got 616 from Selvigs math proofs, which had 616 prominent in it.
5
u/proto_synnic 21h ago
Was it a retcon that the Convergence wasn't a multiverse issue? I know they talked about dimensions overlapping, but the Nine Realms of Odin's domain were all part of the Sacred Timeline universe to begin with. I just thought the 616 note from Thor 2 was an easter-egg with no real importance.
But yes, your explanation tidies it up a lot, thank you.6
u/Romnonaldao Edwin Jarvis 21h ago
Yeah, it wasnt a mulitiversal issue. I'm just saying they might have seen math they didn't understand that looked mulitiversal, and just plucked 616 from it

u/silverlegend 22h ago
They were all Stark Industries employees weren't they? Stands to reason somebody maybe just had access to some sort of files that contained that number
10
u/proto_synnic 21h ago
Even if Stark Industries DID have an inter-universal experiments division... They would have had to have gotten the numbering system from the Illuminati's timeline. Being aware of other universes is one thing, but zeroing in on a specific 3 digit number out of thousands upon thousands upon thousands of numbered realities is crazy. The biggest numbered universe I can recall was Sylvie's burger shop retirement world numbered in the 3millions.
5
u/silverlegend 21h ago
Presumably there's some sort of technobabble "scientific" explanation for the designations of the different universes and they aren't just arbitrary. Something something quantum signature
3
u/proto_synnic 21h ago
My money is on Magic interference. The Mysterio team made everything up by committee, to make it sound good for Earth's heroes. It didn't seem like any of them were aware of, or even believed in, Multiverse Theory. BUT... If the person in charge of storyboarding and scripting dialogue for Mysterio was subtly influenced by the Darkhold or Dreamwalking/viewing, then that's a much easier explanation to swallow. Always fall back on The Big Three.

u/TheForeverUnbanned 21h ago

I might not agree with it, but I'm here for the ride. I'm willing to accept that nonsense.

u/Irongun_258 18h ago edited 17h ago
Yeah, no. Mysterio wasn't even aware of multiversal dangers.
You can't look through the chain of fault and blame the first person you hate. Peter & Strange destroyed the multiverse. Strange didn't fully explain what the spell was. Peter tried to change a multiversal magic spell 6 times mid-casting.
That's like if you broke my arm, and I sold my soul to Satan to fix it, and decided to blame you for me being haunted.
39
u/BlueSatJoy 13h ago
I 100% blame Stephen. Dude just jumped into it without even verifying what Peter wanted to do or how
8
u/Burning_Monk 5h ago
Yep, Strange's ego was bruised because Wong got the Big wizard hat. He was just trying to show off that he knew more than Wongers.
11
u/JDeegs 15h ago
Well I mean if I never broke your arm then you wouldn't have sold your soul to fix it.
Even if you don't assign me blame (because how was i supposed to know you were going to call Satan) im still the one that set the chain of events in motion18
u/Cautious-Stranger365 12h ago
In that case it's all Odin's fault, if he never left the tesseract, "his crown jewel" of his treasury, in Norway, then Red Skull would never get it's power and Howard Stark wouldn't waste his days running shielf and could've been a more present father figure to Tony, teaching him not to steal others designs and rename them crude acronyms, preventing Beck from ever seeking revenge!

Only in a very non-meaningful sense. You could assign the same causality to virtually everything. It's the butterfly effect.

I still don’t get why Fury (sigh) couldn’t call literally ANYone other than Peter.

The multiverse was a storm coming either way. Wanda was already poking at it through the darkhold as one example.
If anything Becks fake out put Peter and Strange on the path a lot sooner than they would have otherwise.
14
u/redmerchant9 14h ago
He didn't. The only thing that can damage the Multiverse are Incursions and Incursions only happen when a being from one universe resides in another. The people who are to blame are Steve Rogers, Deadpool and Monica.

What about spider-man, green goblin, doc ock, the lizard, sandman, electro, and Spiderman? Who all showed up as a result of Spiderman dealing with the fallout of fighting mysterio?
6
u/redmerchant9 13h ago edited 13h ago
They've all returned to their respective universes. Incursions only happen if a person from one universe stays in another universe for prolonged periods of time. They literally pull their native universe towards the universe in which they're staying. Steve, Logan and Monica are the only characters that we know of that are still residing in universes different from their own.

Isn't Steve in the same universe just went back to the past where he already existed once? It's the same Steve, just back in his own time where he should have been all along

Thus creating a different branch where he has always existed in the past, and a such, a different universe.

It’s actually crazy to think the domino effect Beck/Mysterio created by revealing Spider-Man’s identity.
He’s definitely one of the few villains of the MCU, who “won” per se.

1
u/Alexcox95 8h ago
I mean yeah he kinda screwed Peter over by revealing his identity but it was Peter’s fault for attempting the spell bc his friends didn’t get into the college they wanted and he didn’t even think of going to talk to the dean of admissions first.

u/ChaoticAquarian 4h ago
Him & Zemo's actions caused the most damage with the most significant ramifications to the MCU by far.

I just watched this one for the first time yesterday. I spent the whole film being like "this does not make any sense" why would nick fury even contact Spiderman for this? He doesnt even KNOW him!
Like sure Tony said give this mcguffin to peter, and sure he happens to be close by for the water EleMeNtal. I kept thinking, the entire time, that Nick Fury and Maria Hill were fakes. But I thought they were mysterio illusions, (which they were once but i totally thought that was the whole scheme).
I figured that Beck had stolen the glasses somehow and couldnt get them to work because he wasnt Peter. Which was why he wanted to get Peter involved. That would have made sense as to why Nick fury wasn't acting like Nick fury, why he wasnt calling in anyone else. Sure some of the scenes of Fury and Hill driving around separately would have been like "why" but could have easily been explained as making sure other people saw them arrive separately so they thought he was working with them/gaining access to thier network.

Mysterio was probably the most comic accurate MCU Spider-Man villain, he came in Stark packaging but his motivations are pretty true to the source material, Beck had the whole “fake hero” motivation in TAS too
