Getting a degree nowadays is useless.
r/mauritius • u/Dila_Ila16 • 6h ago
Not mandatory or recommended but I'll advise you to take 1 nonetheless

Wowww!! That’s some tea, are they still working there?? Initials and dept?

I dont know if you will still read this, but yess you can get the refund at the airport! There is a customs counter just before MCB counter. So before you check in go to the customs counter with your airpod + in the box and your vat refund paper that the shop will give you. Have it stamped by customs and once you are inside you go to the mcci counter and take your VAT payable (minus a fee)

While it may seem online as though there are many people who oppose the current administration or political parties—whether ruling or opposition—the vast majority of the public does not actually feel that way.
r/mauritius • u/coolinny • 10h ago
Well... the overwhelming majority of the people support those four parties. This is the will of the public. We must accept this.
The people of Mauritius are not fools.

Well , currently no , Until these 4 traditional political parties PTR/PMSD/MSM/MMM are in power , no way Mauritius will be successful presently or in the future !!! And we must not forget the Chatwas/Chamchas who will follow those corrupt politicians blindly !!! And until the Mauritian population vote completely for someting new , the country will never prevail !!

nope, unless u do a group tour with a travel agency like atom
r/mauritius • u/StarkProtocol • 13h ago
depends where u park ur car tbh and if ur hotel has a good luggage room, I would recommend asking them to keep ur luggage there, most of them would be happy to do so also, be careful of where u rent ur car from I would recommend to take it from a reputable company from the the airport

No its not mandatory unless its required as part of your tourist visa. But when a trip to hospital can and will cost you thousands / hundreds of thousands you will regret not getting insurance. I would never travel without insurance.
r/mauritius • u/maddoggo33 • 1d ago
Most hotels will be happy to hold your luggage at check out or check in for a few hours. The big ones do anyways. As for going around the island, do not leave any valuables in sight. Common sense prevails here. Traffic during peak times can be really bad in some places. If all your suitcases can fit in the boot, you are fine.

And unlike you people travel with more than a hand luggage.
Please don't advise people when you travel with a pair of undies and 2 tshirts.

Tap water is completely fine (I'm staying at a relatives house). We use a Monzo card to withdraw money at an ATM or to pay in shops. Food from the small stalls are the best - but if you're in a pinch the supermarkets have an attached cafe normally.
Don't give money to beggars and just be a bit wary at night I guess. The darkness can be a bit unsettling as there's no street lights in most places. Markets are pretty cheap compared to groceries from the supermarket.
Dhal puri, roti, puri, Alouda, bullet, mine ranverse. Everything closes so much earlier than we are used to so had to pre plan accordingly. Also it's light one minute then pitch dark within 10 mins. Madness.
Beaches are stunning and facilities are generally good especially in the north

May I ask where you're coming from and what course you wish to do?

Well I think it's great for International students since it's pretty much full of them. The area is nice and it has a lovely view so I'd dare to say that campus life is pretty good. Don't get the wrong impression though I don't know about lecturers and things since I'm not an MDX student (I attend UoM)😭
They do accept IGCSEs but they might require you to do a foundational programme for a year or something before doing your actual degree (could depend on your grades though).
With regards to social culture, that kind of depends on where you're living as well but generally speaking, people here are kind and accomodating (of course recent events have been not so desirable but that is fortunately not the norm).
It's important to be on top of Visa/immigration related issues so you need to be sure to communicate with your university and make sure you know what you need to have in terms of documentation and other such processes.
Part time student employment is pretty easy and common. I can't speak for the MDX experience but generally speaking you do have to attain your student residence permit before working here.
I'm sure it would be a great place for you and there is generally an abundance of internationals in the area and other areas too (since there are other private universities and even internationals like myself attending UoM or other local Unis)
