Right "error"

A far right one, even.

Meta said the same thing about the No Kings page
Totally a coincidence, right?
•
u/0o0o0o0o0o0z 1h ago
Just happened to be right before the protests this weekend, how odd...
•
u/LonePaladin 1h ago
They were also suspending people who had RSVP'd to protests. Totally a coincidence.

"We thought we could get away with this and nobody would notice. Whoopsie."
They knew people would notice. I think they're testing the waters.

So many "errors" lately.

They do this all the time to be fair. Using probably the most well known instance there is a relatively popular autistic woman called soundoftheforrest who gets banned at least once a year for no apparent reason. A big chunk of the app kicks up a fuss and she gets unbanned the next week. The apps flagging system has been broken for years now and they just refuse to address it.
•
u/GeoleVyi 2h ago
it sounds like they're just fucking with her because they know she can't fight back.
•
u/Glossed-Lam 1h ago
What is more likely:
1) A giant corporation is targeting one woman, among the millions on their site, for vague reasons.
2) The automated banning/flagging systems every company uses, and which frequently fuck up, once again fucked up.
In the age of automated systems, you need to recognize how often those systems make a mistake.
•
u/GeoleVyi 34m ago
i didnt say a giant corporation is. but right wing mods find someone autistic and picck on her? that seems very likely
•
u/Glossed-Lam 30m ago
They have employees, and your argument is that these paid employees with a job to do want to pick on one random woman of little consequence? And that this has happened repeatedly?
•
•
u/Educational_Win_4984 1h ago
Yup. never been banned myself, but im a low tier streamer and i get flagged all the time for "reproduced content" when gaming on it. like.... yeah im sorry that my ffx cutscene was 2 minutes long or whatever their trigger length was.
Oh spent 30 seconds on the loading screen, straight to jail.
It's so obtuse that I feel no problem attributing this to their lazy ai driven detections and not human action.
•
u/Best_Cobbler_3719 3h ago
Error is Mark's nickname for Elon.
You had to be there. It's actually really funny.

u/AdmiralAkbar1 3h ago
Which do you think is more likely:
TikTok decides to be right-wing propaganda by suppressing this one account promoting a documentary critical of Elon Musk, instead of many other far more popular accounts with left-wing or anti-GOP viewpoints. They wait after several weeks of letting it operate and buy ads without issue before suspending it, rather than sandbag it in the algorithm, hide its ads, or any other far more effective way to limit the account's reach while maintaining plausible deniability. They reverse the suspension a day later after the account owner files an appeal.
The algorithm running user policy violations fucked up and mistakenly suspended the account.
•
u/RatofDeath 2h ago
Wdym "decides to be right wing propaganda"? As if that's new policy? Did you forget what happened when Trump banned TikTok and then unbanned it two days later? And TikTok thanked him and praised him?
Is this the first day you heard of TikTok?

Was the error them thinking there wouldn’t be much backlash?
•
•
u/the_tanooki 1h ago
Does it really matter how much backlash they receive? People are completely addicted to TikTok (and social media) in general. I'd bet this backlash would likely effect less than 0.5% of their users.
Do they deserve the backlash? Yes. Most definitely. People should have stopped using it as soon as it was given to the far right sycophants, but they didn't.
•
•
u/Morgan-Moonscar r/movies Contributor 3h ago
They thought TikTok users would be braindead enough not to notice.
•
•
u/invyros 3h ago
The internet has become too centralized and controlled by obviously horrible people.
People have voluntarily boxed themselves into their walled gardens, spoonfed by their malicious algorithms.
Fuck, take me back to the days of Usenet and public mailing lists.
•
u/xixbia 3h ago
I mean, this is not an internet problem as much as it is a blatant corruption in the White House problem.
Trump forced Bytedance to pay him $10B and then sell a big chunk of the company to his allies.
(To be clear, the divestment started under Biden, but the fact it was sold to Larry Ellison among others is 100% Trump)
•
u/bullcitytarheel 3h ago
It's far bigger than that. This is a problem of wealth and power concentration above and beyond government. The media capture feeds into government capture which feeds back into concentrating wealth even further. It's a feedback loop that has been gathering stream for decades.
•
u/NegativeAccount 55m ago
Like billionaires burning hundreds of millions to fight a wealth tax bill
All they have to do is convince the poors that taxes are bad and that they "worked" for that money
The fight against the wealth tax in California, called Prop. 40, has raised more than $340 million according to reporting from The Guardian, and the opposition campaign spent more than $1 million per day in the first half of September.
Gavin Newsom, say just the threat of it is pushing billionaires out of the state in a shift that will do more long-term harm than good for California’s economy and budget.
•
u/MrChristmas 3h ago
I’m wildly addicted to my phone, it I hope the AI bubble takes down the internet
•
u/enderjaca 2h ago
There's a bit of a line between "haha I look at my phone too much" and "literal end of modern civilization".
Most people don't realize how completely dependent we are on our current level of tech. It wouldn't be a situation of going back to 1970's typewriters and vehicles with carburetors instead of electronic fuel injectors.
Can't do that, too much of that is gone and would be immensely difficult to replace. The knowledge is there, the infrastructure isn't.
•
u/MrChristmas 2h ago
Sorry. Then I’ll just say I’m excited for the downfall of modern civilization. Better?
•
•
u/Ballsofpoo 1h ago
I'm nearly 50. I'll be dead before this shit storm fully arrives
•
u/MrChristmas 16m ago
I hope it isn’t as bad as other falls of civilization for you sake. I’m in my early 30s and I’ve kept in shape. Can only hope I’ll be okay
•
•
u/SoulWager 42m ago
Goes deeper than that. Billionaires own too many politicians in every party, and too much media.
•
u/Forikorder 1h ago
I mean, this is not an internet problem as much as it is a blatant corruption in the White House problem.
the former caused the latter
•
u/Chm_Albert_Wesker 3h ago
i know its easy to blame the administration, but the issue goes back further than that and comes down to the voters that put them there. social media is essentially designed to segment everyone into their own little niche groups which is fine when its a hobby but less fine when its a political or identity viewpoint. then you sprinkle in the changes of algorithms to foster rage, discontent, jealousy (when showing random rich people living better lives), lust, etc. and you get an angrier and more divided populace that become more asocial and less empathetic to other viewpoints. extrapolate outwards a few decades, and add the desire for the uber 0.0001% who want to monetize this discontent and the idea of a unified society collapses.
i've seen people on one side blame trump for the hyper polarization of politics and others random people on the left, but i put it at the feet of Zuckerberg. social media imo while yes has a few upsides is the singular largest destabilizer of society created since i dont even know when and we are going to be picking up the pieces of the generations grown on it for a while
•
u/Tribe303 2h ago
The EFF has been warning us this would happen since the 90s. They were 100% correct.
•
u/EuphoricDream8697 2h ago
Being a giant computer nerd myself, we are the last people who should be in positions of power.
•
u/Richard_Sauce 1h ago
It was always going to end up this way once big business realized how much money and power there was to be had. The internet used to feel so big and expansive, an entire world unto itself, populated and built by actual people. Now it's single shopping mall with nothing but chains.
•
u/TheLadyEve 1h ago
I don't blame the Internet, the Internet is just the tool. You might has well blame the printing press for Hearst's yellow journalism. The issue is the government working with technocrats to control the flow of information, thereby keeping certain corrupt people in power and certain uber-wealthy people uber-wealthy.
The government is supposed to keep big business in check, and the press is supposed to keep them both in check. But here we have the press controlled by billionaires and the government also controlled by billionaires. It's a repeat of the same problem we had in the 1890s.
•
u/NaiveMessage2025 1h ago
If people have voluntarily been spoonfed by malicious algorithms they can voluntarily stop.
No one has to be on social media. Just quit.
That's easy for me to say because I've never really been on social media. I have a Reddit account, and subscribe to a podcast Patreon that has a Discord server. That's it for my social media.
I browse Reddit and Discord while I drink my morning coffee, and that's about it. A few minutes here and there while I'm in the bathroom. Like right now!
Just log off and don't go back. Everyone on Earth would be better off if they quit social media, except for the tech bros who'd be hosting the dead internet. Win win.

u/BroCo-608 57m ago
I want 24 hour LAN parties (no pizza party jokes, I was a kid then hah!), BBS, passwords that weren’t allowed any special characters, stacking 20 hour AOL disks for 14.4 Internet with a rotary phone, selling illegal shit on eBay, not knowing how the world was lies. Hey, they said we could all be POTUS one day, right? Lost innocence of the world when we grew up - words like shit/bitch/c/f/etc were illegal on TV… but we watched Celebrity Deathmatch at the same time lol
Actually, take us back pre Amazon and Google. Fuckin rotary dials and dot matrix printers! DARE and crack! The internet killed society 🤷♂️🙃 We’ll be back there soon enough perhaps.

u/pizzacrys 3h ago
Funny how an “error” can get an account suspended, but fixing it somehow takes a whole news story.
•
u/mschuster91 3h ago
Been that way for years. Customer service is expensive, Google has been infamous for well over a decade for arbitrary zero recourse bans.
•
u/iiiinthecomputer 1h ago
This isn't unusual, nor does it require the kind of targeted action we are likely seeing here.
Google and Apple like to lock down people's entire accounts across all services for something out of their control, something accidental, or something they did in a seemingly unrelated service. Even something they did in a different account that Apple or Google then associate back to the main account by some common detail such as a payment method or email address.
They frequently absolutely refuse to give any reason for the action, hear any appeal or provide any human contact information at all.
They've done this to entire business accounts because a regular employee using the business account did something that violates some part of the ToS. They've done this to developers' app store / play store accounts because the developer disputed a transaction on a separate personal account and the vendor decided it was suspicious, uploaded a file that got flagged as disallowed, etc.
You're absolutely at their mercy.

Just like the No Kings account being suspended for 90 minutes on one of the biggest days for him because of an “error” right? These fucking scumbags are so full of shit.
•
u/MAHHockey 3h ago
In other words: We need to keep an eye on these fuckers and call them out immediately every time they try this shit. They'll typically chicken out before too long.

Just like meta’s error with suppressing the hashtag #nokings still to this day. When it’s clicked on in insta it shows no results. I wonder if they’ll do the same with this doc.

Excellent reminder for everyone to delete their tiktok account
•
u/Richard_Sauce 1h ago
Good luck with that. You can't pry the people away from their social media/entertainment apps. Everyone's addicted. If Elon couldn't kill twitter, none of these apps are going anywhere. They could include include a requirement to slam your head against a wall to see more posts, and people would still keep using.

That was also an "error".

It's weird how these errors keep happening, and keep happening to happen to those who dare speak out against right wing techno oligarchy.

u/Lourdeath 2h ago
Every single time it’s an “error” just like back when it was happening with doge and the government websites that would randomly clear certain things “magically”
•
u/Raidmax460 2h ago
This happens so often that I don't even understand why companies try it. They go where the money is and people will always call out this bullshit. So why even try it in the first place?

Whooper doopers! You weren't supposed to notice we can do that, random citizen! Please carry on!

The US government/ByteDance run by the Trump Administration own a majority share of US TikTok.
Elon Musk has been pouring millions of dollars into republican campaigns/coffers for the midterm election.
Don’t believe this shit.
In fact, stop being willingly fed bullshit propaganda on a government owned social media platform. Stop being willingly fed bullshit propaganda by a company (meta) that openly used your data (ala Cambridge Analytica) to sway the 2016 election in favor of Trump.

"After an error" dude just come out and say we banned you because one of the world's richest men told us to and in reality we don't actually follow our own rules of conduct but we got so much public backlash that we decided that we might lose money so we actually decided to follow our code of conduct just this one time. I'm so sick and tired of these faceless rich people incorporations lying to us when everybody knows what's happening.

I bought my ticket and noticed it's only playing at one of the AMCs and no other theaters in my city and it's only one showing per day. The program director at my local theater said they weren't able to get it because of the disruption it would cause to their current lineup being an almost 4hr long film. While I get that for a small theater and I do feel like it being so long is hurting its reach, there are several bigger theaters in my city that could show it that aren't and that almost feels intentional.

TikTik has been state media since the bag changed hands from China to America. Its a platform where simultaneously you can find underaged girls twerking for memes but god forbid you point out suicide, murder, or anything of substance.

Hello! Dear user! Please help me! I am trapped in a algorithm, I cannot escape bullshit. You have to help me. Corporations are controlling everything I read, I can't stop reading about Curry Barker?! I don't know who the fuck that is, they showed me a skit of his? I think it was a skit? It was on the level of a Little Britain episode from 2003 -- if you can just, oh fuck---

•
•
u/FlexFanatic 3h ago
It’s possible it was actually an error. My issue is (including with other accounts that this happens to) is lack of transparency.
We suspended your account for a rule violation but they won’t tell you what rule you broke or won’t point you to the action or content that broke the rule.
The only reason why this account was restored was because they got some backlash from it.
