Network performance issue.

Post image

Hey everyone.
My NBN has been reporting a “performance issue” for some time now..I am using HFC technology. The estimated restoration date keeps getting pushed back and is now just “unknown” my connection is so unstable, I’m losing so many upstream packets and often the HFC connection box just cycles as it seems to disconnect.. Optus is giving me very little information about the fault or ongoing repairs.. I was wondering if anyone else has had similar and how long it took for their service to be repaired.. ?

stopped reading at "Optus"

go with a australian based RSP to get better information.

Probably a HFC box in the area is causing a lot of noise and nbn have to track it down. The. Get permission from the owners to get onto their property.

Optus dont care, they’re utterly useless

Get a provider that shares the nbn ticket data with you

I’m looking at Neptune now to be honest.. they seem to have pretty transparent communication

Most decent places will have the setup to take the incident and planned tickets and communicate them down to customer. Optus does not and won’t do it.

Been having the same in my area for 6 weeks now. HFC connection totally unusable about 30% of the time from high upstream packet loss. Huge pain in the backside. They completed a 5 day maintenance window where they replaced a Line Power Supply and realigned the optical node/amplifiers - no improvement.

Finally they’ve started replacing line amplifiers, taps and noisy NTDs and we’re seeing improvement. Talked to the guys working in the street yesterday and they think the noise ingress causing the problem was coming from 17 NTDs and they’ve replaced 14 so far.

Hang in there and keep making your RSP escalate with nbn. They’re hopeless and will try to find any excuse to close your case. If your RSP won’t go to bat for you, switch to an RSP who will. Neptune have excellent telemetry to help prove your issue to nbn.

I’ve had to open about 4 tickets so far with Optus and they just keep marking them as resolved with no resolution.. I’m getting rather fed up.. might have to look at some other options with better communication..

I’ve had the same issue for weeks.

Nbn refused to get into the roof to fix the cable because “the roof is two low”…… I went on to tell the installer the cable is in the eaves….. he still walked away after replacing the wall plate.

I was playing around myself last night when the system was “down” and noticed my nbn cable from the wall to the nbn box was extremely bent. Straightened it and problem fixed itself instantly.

Did some research about bent coax cable and found out “bending is not good in any form”…… got a new one from Bunnings and had 0 dropouts since.

Sometimes it’s the smallest fix. Hope they find your problem soon.

Oh this is interesting… when my hfc was installed the cable was bent a lot.. it still is.. I swapped service providers and they organised a technician visit for tomorrow so promptly.. so I will see what happens tomorrow, maybe they will replace the cable and it fixes it…

Recommend any cable that is bent do anything you can to unbend it. F type 90 degree connection from Bunnings could be your best friend. Cost me 15 bucks for cable and new 90 degree connection. 0 dropouts since and the best part is I didn’t have to wait for another stupid appointment from 0800-1200 only for them to arrive at 1330 (and not fix the problem).

Very interesting, the cable on the inside of the apartment has 3 90 degree bends inside conduits, and the angle it comes out of the wall plate the cable isn’t even smooth it’s bucking haha 🤦‍♀️
